Boar’s Back Tower is one of the 11 Scouting Towers scattered across Vale Sangora, and it is one of the more rewarding ones to knock out early. Climbing it fills in a chunk of the western map with question mark icons, and the chest at the top holds a skill manual plus an epic amulet.
Quick answer: Travel west of Svartrau City to Shrike’s Crag at night, use Shadowstep and Planeshift to reach the top of the ruined tower, then press the “Scout the area” prompt on each survey point to reveal the surrounding region.
Boar’s Back Tower location in Vale Sangora
The tower sits west of Svartrau City, inside the area called Shrike’s Crag. It is a ruined stone structure standing on higher ground, and on the world map it shows up with the same white tower icon used for every Scouting Tower. Once the prologue is behind you and the world opens up, nothing gates the trip out there.
Getting there is faster if you have unlocked Shapeshift from the Vampirism skill tree, since crossing open ground between shrines eats real in-game time on foot.

Scouting Towers are a night-only activity. Coen’s human form has no way up the walls, so the climb depends entirely on his vampiric traversal abilities. Show up during the day and there is simply no route to the top.
| Detail | Boar’s Back Tower |
|---|---|
| Region | Shrike’s Crag, west of Svartrau City |
| Time of day | Night only |
| Abilities used | Shadowstep (hold R2/RT), Planeshift |
| Rewards | Potent Blood Manual, Duelist’s Pendant (epic amulet) |
| Time cost | None — scouting does not advance the clock |
| Counts toward | Bird’s-Eye View trophy/achievement (all 11 towers) |
That last row is the important one. Because towers do not push time forward, and Coen’s family is on a timer, this is one of the few activities in the game with no cost attached. If you want, you can chain several towers together in a single night.
How to climb Boar’s Back Tower and scout the area

How to confirm the tower is done
A cutscene plays once you finish surveying from the summit, panning across the surrounding terrain. After that, open the world map. New question mark icons should be filled in across the western stretch of Vale Sangora, covering things like Sacred Stones, Ancient Circles, Haunted Sites, bandit camps, and monster lairs.

If the map still looks empty, you almost certainly triggered the prompt at only one vantage point. Head back up and check the remaining spots.
Why the climb fails
There are only a few reasons the ascent stalls. Attempting it during daylight is the biggest one, since the traversal abilities are locked to Coen’s vampire form. The other is distance. If you aim Shadowstep at a ledge that is too far away, the game shows an “Out of range” warning instead of committing the teleport, and you need to reposition closer before trying again.

Stamina is worth watching too. Long Planeshift runs along outer walls drain it, and running dry mid-wall drops you back to the ground. Sticking to short interior hops keeps that from happening.
Boar’s Back Tower is a natural pairing with a wider tower sweep, since none of them cost you time and the payoff compounds. Clear it alongside the towers in the Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds, then push into Svartrau City for the trio there, and the map stops being guesswork long before Coen’s deadline starts to bite.
