Reach the broken bridge, drop into the chasm, and clear the Echo to claim the Level 15 Durandal longsword.

Durandal is one of the earliest Legendary weapons you can carry out of Vale Sangora, and it is tucked away in a cursed valley that most players walk straight past. It is a Level 15 Legendary Longsword hidden inside a pile of wreckage at the bottom of a chasm, guarded by a spectral Echo and a mixed group of wolves and skeletons.

Quick answer: Fast travel to the Coward’s Path Shrine, head west into the mountains and climb to the broken bridge, then drop into the chasm below. Kill the Echo and its minions, switch on Focus Mode, and loot the largest wreckage pile to receive Durandal.

Durandal location: The broken bridge above the cursed chasm

The sword sits inside The Cursed Chasm, an unmarked area in the mountains near Briar Sloughs, close enough to the early game that you can reach it in your first hours. The nearest reliable anchor is the Coward’s Path Shrine. From there, move west toward the mountains and climb the northwestern hills until the fog thickens and a wrecked wooden bridge appears ahead of you.

The whole detour consumes two segments of your timeline, so plan it around whatever else you want to finish in that stretch of day or night.

Two ways to start The Cursed Chasm

You do not need a quest in your journal to get the sword. Walking into the area triggers everything on its own, but there is also a dialogue route if you would rather have a marker to follow.

MethodWhat you do
Walk in coldTravel to the broken bridge yourself. The quest starts as soon as you reach the cursed area.
Tavern rumorIn Svartrau City, speak to the Innkeeper at the tavern by the market and ask if he has heard anything interesting. He mentions Skender’s men falling into a chasm with their treasure.

How to get Durandal in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Open your map and set a course for the broken bridge in the mountains. If the quest is active, the objective reads “Investigate the broken bridge and its surroundings” and the marker sits well outside the busier parts of the valley.

Follow the foggy mountain path up to the bridge itself. The wooden span is collapsed, and a destroyed carriage is left sitting on the intact section.

Inspect the wrecked carriage on the bridge to pick up the Special Orders. The document is signed by Count Dimitar, His Majesty’s Chamberlain, and reading it updates your objective to “Find Kryaz Skender’s lost treasure.”

Get down into the chasm. You can jump straight off the broken edge, use Shadowstep and your claws to control the descent, or take the long way by returning to the Coward’s Path Shrine and heading due west instead of northwest to pick up the descending path.
Clear the bottom of the chasm. Wolves come first, then skeletons and Vidmos, and finally a red spectral Echo. The Echo is the real fight here and it hits hard, so keep your stamina in reserve for dodges rather than trading hits.

With the area quiet, turn on Focus Mode. It outlines every wreck and skeleton you can interact with down there, including several that are easy to miss in the gloom.
Loot the largest wreckage pile. That is the one holding Durandal, alongside Denarius and a recipe. Open your inventory afterwards and equip the sword, since it does not equip itself.

Durandal stats and bonuses

Durandal is a Level 15 Legendary Longsword, which means you will likely pick it up slightly under level. The stamina reductions are the standout here, since they let you dodge and swing more often before running dry.

Note: because weapons can be levelled up at blacksmiths during the day, Durandal stays viable long past the point where its base level would normally fall off.

Everything else in the chasm worth looting

The sword is not the only reason to make the trip. The wreckage is scattered across the chasm floor, so sweep the whole area with Focus Mode before you climb back out.

The Final Report fills in what happened here. Catalin was hauling a fortune in silver out of the Valley before the Vrakhiri attack, and the soldiers escorting him decided they would rather flee than fight. None of them made it past the bridge. That silver is now yours, and it can be traded for Denarius at merchants, with the Silver Trader in Svartrau City being the obvious stop.

If Durandal is not in the wreckage

You will know the pickup worked when Durandal appears in your inventory tagged as a Legendary Longsword. If you have looted a few piles and it has not shown up, there are only two likely reasons. The first is that you missed the correct pile, since the sword is in the biggest wreck and not the smaller scattered ones. The second is that hostiles are still alive nearby, which blocks some interactions until the area is fully cleared.

Focus Mode solves both problems. Stand at the bottom of the chasm, sweep the area, and every remaining interactable outline will light up until nothing is left.

One last piece of advice on timing. The enemies down here are a genuine step up for an early character, so if you are still in the low teens, expect a hard fight and bring healing. Coming back a level or two later makes the whole detour considerably shorter.
