What the four new Override sprite types do, plus every Loot Hacker finish added in v42.10.

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override picked up 25 sprites on September 3 with the v42.10 update. Only four of those are genuinely new types — X-Ray, Onigiri, Mega Man, and Overshield — and the rest are variant finishes layered onto the roster that has been in the game since launch. The headline addition is Loot Hacker, a new special finish that changes what spawns for you in a match rather than just how a sprite looks.

Quick answer: The four new types are X-Ray (periodically marks nearby enemies), Onigiri (triggers Overdrive after you eat or drink), Mega Man (reduced slide and swim friction), and Overshield (grants Overshield that scales with sprite level). They became unlockable at the daily sprite reset, 6AM PT / 9AM ET on September 3.

The four new sprite types and what each power does

X-Ray and Onigiri came out of Epic’s Design-A-Sprite contest, credited to Avila215 and Enorull respectively. Enorull’s Bullet design was swapped out in favor of Onigiri before release. Mega Man and Overshield are Epic’s own designs. Every one of these powers scales with sprite level, so a Level 1 pull is noticeably weaker than a mastered one.

SpriteEffect
X-Ray (Legendary)Periodically marks enemies around you. The detection radius grows with each level.
Onigiri (Rare)Applies Overdrive after you eat or drink a consumable. Duration extends with each level.
Mega Man (Rare)Reduces friction while sliding and swimming, letting you slide farther as it levels.
Overshield (Rare)Grants Overshield, with the amount increasing as the sprite levels up.

Onigiri pairs unusually well with the new Loot Hack lineup, since the Overwatch Caduceus Staff is back in the pool alongside Scorpion’s Combat Kit, the Wrecker Revolver, the Deadeye Assault Rifle, and the Holo Twister Assault Rifle. Anything that keeps you eating or drinking keeps Overdrive up.

Loot Hacker: the new Season 4 variant, explained

Loot Hacker is the special finish introduced in v42.10. A Loot Hacker sprite keeps whatever power its base version has and adds one thing on top: it increases the chance of items spawning from your active Loot Hacks. That makes it a build-shaping variant rather than a cosmetic one, because it directly raises how often your chosen weapons show up in a run.

There is a Loot Hacker finish for every Override sprite type except Mega Man, which shipped as base-only in this drop. Fifteen Loot Hacker sprites landed at once, covering the launch roster plus the three new types that received full variant treatment.

  • Crown, Klombo, Jackrabbit, Killswitch, Storm Scout
  • Sonic, Tails, Shadow, 8-Bit
  • Bushranger, Adventure, Jonesy
  • X-Ray, Onigiri, Overshield

The Crown one is the outlier. Loot Hacker Crown only levels up when you win a match with it equipped, and mastering the Gold Crown sprite is what unlocks it in the first place. Everything else in the list behaves like the other specials — treat island pads as the working assumption until Epic confirms specific unlock paths.

Gold and Cheat Master finishes for the new types

X-Ray, Onigiri, and Overshield each shipped with the full set of finishes: Gold, Cheat Master, and Loot Hacker. Mega Man did not — it is base-only for now. The two older finishes do different jobs. Gold adds bonus elimination XP on top of the sprite’s ability. Cheat Master makes any button count as correct when you input world cheat codes, which effectively removes the failure state from island pads.

FinishWhat it adds
GoldBonus XP on eliminations, alongside the sprite’s normal power.
Cheat MasterAny button works on world cheat codes, so pad inputs cannot fail.
Loot HackerRaises the chance of items spawning from your Loot Hacks.

Cheat Master versions of 8-Bit, Shadow, Tails, and Sonic are also in circulation, and Cheat Master sprites entered the island pad pool on August 27 during New Sprite Day. They remain in the pool.

How to find the new sprites in Override

Sprite Chests are gone this season. Two systems replaced them, and you will use both.

Open the admin panel from the “…” menu at the top right of the Battle Royale lobby. This is where Lobby Hack codes go, and it is separate from the terminals you find in a match.
Paste a code and hit Submit. The v42.10 additions are InvalidCheat for two Cheat Code Locators and ChatWhereDoYouFindTheKey for two Extraction Accelerators. Most codes are one-time per account, so a “already redeemed” response usually means it worked earlier.
Drop into a match and hunt island cheat code pads. Pad colors correspond to sprite rarity, so you can filter what you chase on sight. Carrying a Cheat Master sprite makes this far more forgiving because every input registers as correct.
Extract what you find. A sprite is only yours once the extraction completes, which is why Extraction Accelerators are worth spending codes on.

There is also a hidden code, YourThoughtsAreMine, which pays out 5,000 Sprite Dust and the Void Master Geno skin — but only after you finish the Geno Story Quest. Enter it early and it will not take.

Release times by region

The v42.10 build went live at 3AM PT after downtime that ran from 4AM ET to 5:30AM ET, but the sprites themselves did not become obtainable until the daily sprite reset three hours later.

Sprite Dust costs and the mastery discount

Override cut buy-back prices compared to last season, and v42.10 added a meaningful discount on top: a mastered sprite now costs half the usual Sprite Dust to resummon. Lost sprites always return at Level 1 regardless of what they were before, and the Dust cap is 20,000.

RarityBaseSpecial finish
Rare1,2501,500
Epic1,5001,800
Legendary1,7502,100
Mythic2,0002,400

Killswitch is the exception worth remembering. It is tagged Epic but charges the Legendary rate on buy-back. Checking Info on a card shows that specific sprite’s exact cost before you commit.

A Sprite Mastery reward track also arrived with this update, handing out Gizmos as you master more of the roster. An arcade-themed Back Bling that displays your mastered sprites is set for update 42.20.

What is still coming this season

Three more Design-A-Sprite entries — Dumpster Dive, Honey, and Pond — are confirmed for later in Override and are not obtainable yet. Mega Man’s Gold, Cheat Master, and Loot Hacker finishes have not appeared either.

Cheat Master Power Hours run on September 5 with a Cheat Master Klombo spawn boost plus Portable Extractor and 1-Up Token rewards, which is the strongest window this week for chasing rare finishes. Mastery Mondays returns to the sprite events rotation next week.

Your Season 3 collection is not gone. Those sprites moved into the Sprite Garden and remain visible on your in-game collection page, though Gizmos and Sprite Dust reset with the season change so the new generation could roll out cleanly.

If you are picking one thing to chase first, X-Ray is the highest-value pull of the four — it is the only Legendary in the group, and passive enemy marking does more for your survival odds than a slightly longer slide. Overshield is the easiest to justify as a permanent equip once it has a few levels behind it.
