Bulk-buying Summer Capsules in Anime Expeditions is the fastest way to chase the four Mythic units added in Update 2.0. It is not a way to chase Shinies. A run of 1,089 capsules, costing 108,900 Sand Dollars, returned no Shiny variants and no Rainman at all, which is exactly what the drop system is built to do.
Quick answer: Summer Capsules cannot produce Shiny units. Shiny variants only roll from the Beginner, Standard, and Mini summon banners at roughly a 1% chance per eligible summon, so no amount of Sand Dollars spent in the Tidal Siege shop will produce one.
Shiny units only roll from summon banners
A Shiny is a cosmetic variant of a normal unit. It gets a different colour palette, a unique summon animation, a lobby aura, and in some cases a different placement effect. Damage, range, SPA, passives, evolutions, equipment compatibility, and traits are all identical to the standard version.
The Shiny roll happens after the game has already decided which unit you receive, and it is independent of that unit’s rarity. Every eligible summon gets its own separate check at about 1%. Eligible summons are the Beginner Banner, the Standard Banner, and the Mini Banner — event capsules are not on that list.
Because Shinies are purely cosmetic, they are an endgame collection target rather than a power goal. If you do hunt them, set your Auto Sell filters carefully so a Shiny is never dumped automatically, and track what you own through the Unit Index, which logs Shiny variants separately from their base versions.

A Summer Capsule costs 100 Sand Dollars in the Tidal Siege event shop and stays purchasable until Update 4. It can contain limited units and skins, plus a large volume of reroll and lock utility items. Four Mythics sit in the pool.
| Mythic unit | Drop chance | Evolution |
|---|---|---|
| Rainman | 0.25% | Rainman (Forecast) |
| Sand | 0.25% | Sand (Alligator) |
| Head Captain | 0.25% | Head Captain (Char) |
| Water Mage | In pool | Water Mage (Scholar) |
At 0.25%, you are looking at roughly 400 capsules — 40,000 Sand Dollars — before any one of those units is likely to appear. That is an average, not a guarantee, and there is no pity system on the capsule. The 1,089-capsule run landed Water Mage, Head Captain, and Sand, but never rolled Rainman.
How to buy and bulk-open Summer Capsules

What 1,089 capsules returned
The units are the headline, but the bulk of a large opening is progression material. Here is what 108,900 Sand Dollars converted into.
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Equipment Reroll | 300 + 44 |
| Stat Reroll | 300 + 44 |
| Equipment Lock | 300 + 44 |
| Stat Lock | 300 + 44 |
| Trait Crystal | 150 + 22 |
| Fruit Crystal | 44 |
| Gold | 44 |

Note: those rerolls and locks are the real reason to buy capsules in volume. Hundreds of Equipment Rerolls and Stat Locks let you brute-force stat potential and gear rolls on units you already have, which moves your account further than a fourth copy of a Mythic would.
How to confirm which units you pulled
The end-of-opening summary scrolls fast, and a single Mythic buried in 1,089 results is easy to miss. Open the Units menu and search for the unit by name. If it is there, the pull registered; if the search comes back empty, it did not drop, regardless of what flashed on screen.

There are only two common reasons a Mythic you expected is missing. Either it never rolled, or auto-sell filtered it out at the moment of opening. Both are visible in the Units menu, so check there before assuming a bug.
Reserve Sand Dollars for evolution items first
Each capsule Mythic needs a dedicated evolution item that also costs Sand Dollars, and at 10,000 apiece they are worth 100 capsules each. Buying the item before dumping your balance into capsules avoids the situation where you own the unit but cannot evolve it.
| Evolution | Sprites and Gold | Event item (10,000 Sand Dollars) |
|---|---|---|
| Rainman (Forecast) | 25x Blue, 25x Green, 1x Rainbow, 10,000 Gold | Cloud Disc — Summer Fish Fest shop |
| Sand (Alligator) | 25x Green, 25x Purple, 1x Rainbow, 10,000 Gold | Desert Fruit — Summer Fish Fest shop |
| Head Captain (Char) | 25x Red, 25x Yellow, 1x Rainbow, 10,000 Gold | Overgrown Beard — Tidal Siege shop |
Sprites come from Challenges or can be crafted from Grey Sprites, and Gold drops from Story stages on any difficulty. Everything else runs through the hub menus, where the Store and Events buttons sit alongside your inventory.

For the currency itself, Summer Fish Fest quests are the heaviest source and can hand over more than 20,000 Sand Dollars, with most missions asking you to fish a set number of times. Tidal Siege quests add more on top, and the Summer Calendar drops Sand Dollars, Trait Crystals, and Equipment Rerolls for daily logins.
Treat the Summer Capsule as a Mythic and material faucet with a hard 0.25% wall, not as a Shiny slot machine. If a Shiny is the goal, the Sand Dollars are wasted currency — save gems for the standard banners instead, and put your event balance into the four Mythics and the evolution items that make them usable.
