Anime Expeditions: How to Get Every Summer Siege Unit in Update 2

Exact unlock conditions, capsule costs, and evolution materials for all nine Update 2 units.

Exact unlock conditions, capsule costs, and evolution materials for all nine Update 2 units.

Update 2 turned Anime Expeditions into a nine-unit checklist spread across a capsule shop, an event mode, a portal roll, and two progression tracks. Each unit has one exact unlock condition, and none of them overlap, so the fastest path is knowing which grind actually pays out the unit you are missing.

Quick answer: Head Captain, Rainman, Sand, and Water Mage come from Summer Capsules bought for 100 Sand Dollars each. Sharkfang requires activating a Sharktooth Conch during Coral Kingdom – Tidal Siege on Hard Mode. Sovereign (Djinn) rolls at 2% only when you are a non-host in Sovereign’s Portal. Kitsune needs one completed Kitsune Bingo board, and Jester is locked to Season 2 Battle Pass level 50. Every evolution then costs one 10,000 Event Coin material.

Tidal Siege is the engine behind most of this. Clearing its infinite waves is what generates Sand Dollars, Summer Capsules, Battle Pass EXP, and Bingo stamps at the same time, so one mode feeds four separate unlocks. The full Update 2.0 changelog lives on the official Anime Expeditions update log and in the in-game log.

Summer Capsules: Head Captain, Rainman, Sand, and Water Mage

Four of the base mythics share one capsule pool. There is no targeted banner and no way to bias a pull, so treat these four as a single objective and stop spending Sand Dollars the moment all four are collected.

Run Tidal Siege waves to bank Sand Dollars. Wave clears also drop Summer Capsules directly, which cuts down on how much currency you need to convert.
Open the shop from the hub and go to the Summer Shop. Each Summer Capsule costs 100 Sand Dollars, and you can buy them in bulk before opening.

The Store button on the main hub screen opens the Summer Shop where capsules are sold.
Open the capsules and check the rate panel while opening. The pool also contains limited summer skins, so a large batch can return cosmetics rather than units.
Capsule rewardRate
Sand0.5%
Sharkfang (Summer) skin0.5%
Rainman0.25%
Water Mage0.25%
Head Captain0.25%

Note: the Sharkfang entry in the capsule is a summer skin, not the Sharkfang unit. The unit itself is never a capsule reward.

How to get Sharkfang from the Sharktooth Conch in Coral Kingdom

Sharkfang has a hard trigger rather than a drop chance on clear. You need the Sharktooth Conch to appear during a run, and you need to use it before the run ends.

Open the Events menu and select Tidal Siege from the current event list. This is also where the Summer Calendar and the other running summer events sit.

Load Coral Kingdom – Tidal Siege on Hard Mode. Place farm units early so you can afford a real defense while you fish, since fishing during the run is what surfaces the Sharktooth Conch.
Once the Sharktooth Conch drops, activate it in the same run. Activation spawns a Sharkfang boss horde on top of the normal wave, so hold the activation until your defense is built up.
Defeat the boss horde and finish the stage. Sharkfang is handed out as a completion reward, not as a random roll.

The most common failure here is leaving or restarting the stage after the conch drops. Progress does not carry over, and you have to fish the conch up again from scratch.

Sovereign (Djinn) only rolls for non-hosts

Sovereign’s Portal is crafted from Djinn’s Treasure, which drops from Tier 5 portals at 4% with a 25-run pity. Four of the material craft the Secret Portal for that unit.

The catch is the 2% chance is flagged “Non-Host Only.” Running your own portal does not satisfy the condition, so join another player’s Sovereign’s Portal and clear it as a guest to roll for the unit.

Kitsune, Jester, and Lightning God (Overcharged)

These three are the no-RNG unlocks, and two of them progress passively while you farm Tidal Siege.

Kitsune requires one full Kitsune Bingo board. Stamps come from defeating enemies in whichever modes the active board asks for, and completing the board once awards the unit. The Bingo rewards are also a reliable source of evolution sprites, so it is worth claiming even after the unit is secured.

Jester is a Season 2 Battle Pass exclusive at level 50. Battle Pass EXP comes from enemy defeats and quests, so check which quests are active before starting a session.

Lightning God (Overcharged) does not share a route with the other eight. Select the unit in-game and read its Obtainment panel, then check the current event shops. Related to that unit, Lightning God’s Portal is crafted from Charged Dust, which shares the same 4% drop rate and 25-run pity from Tier 5 portals.

Evolution materials cost 10,000 Event Coins each

Pulling the base unit is only half of it. Each of the five summer mythics evolves with one specific material bought from the event shop, and every material is priced the same.

Buy the material you need from the event shop for 10,000 Event Coins. Event coins can also be claimed from the Headliner Hunt menu.
Open the Evolve menu and click Select Unit. Nothing can be spent until a base unit is loaded into the slot.

Pick the base unit from your roster and confirm with Select. The menu then shows the exact material the evolution consumes.

Run the evolution, then level the new unit with food items before taking it into a real stage. If you want to fix bad stats first, do it at the Stat Potential station, since rerolls apply to the unit rather than the form.

How to confirm a unit actually unlocked

An evolved unit is easy to verify. Its name gains the suffix in the table above, its passive list changes entirely, and it unlocks a matching player cosmetic and aura you can equip in the lobby. Sharkfang (Abyssal), for example, carries the Waterfall and Boiling Waters passives, while Sand (Alligator) shows Desert Storm and Golden Hook.

If you want to check the kit before committing it to a team, drop the unit in the testing zone and watch its attack pattern and passive triggers there.

Routes that do not unlock Summer Siege units

Villain Invasion and Warriors Saga belong to earlier update cycles. Their quests, banners, and units are separate from the summer collection and will not move any of the nine unlocks forward.

The shop sells Summer Bundle #1 at 999 Robux, Summer Bundle #2 at 3,999 Robux, Summer Bundle #3 at 7,999 Robux, and the Crab Rider Bundle at 9,999 Robux. Read each in-game tooltip before buying, and only expect a summer unit when the bundle names it outright.

Higher fishing rod ranks are also worth chasing for milestone rewards and event rank stat bonuses, but they carry no stated multiplier on capsule or unit drop rates. The Lucky Rod’s guaranteed Mythic on every eighth catch applies to fish, not to capsule pulls.

Sequenced properly, the whole set is one loop. Queue Tidal Siege with your Bingo board and Battle Pass quests open, bank Sand Dollars and Event Coins on the same clears, fish for the conch while you defend, and spend on capsules only until those four names are checked off.
