Haunted Sites are among the quieter open-world events in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and also among the most rewarding. Each one is a field of corpses whose spirits never moved on, and clearing it means summoning those spirits yourself and cutting them down. There are only four in the entire valley, and each one hands over a perk manual plus a chest of gear, consumables, and silver.
Quick answer: The four Haunted Sites are the Site of Crucifixion (hilltop by the Eerie Knoll shrine), the Mass Grave (northeast of Shrike’s Crag), the River Massacre (riverbed south of the Ruined Hut shrine), and the Destroyed Caravan (west of the Howling Keep in Tantari Woods). Visit each one during the day, use Astral Communion on the marked corpse, kill the spirits, and loot the chest.
Haunted Site requirements: daytime only, and one Time Segment
Exorcisms are strictly a daytime activity. Show up as a vampire at night and nothing will happen, so plan these around Coen’s human hours the same way you would an Ancient Circle. Performing the ritual also consumes 1x Time Segment, which matters because the clock keeps moving toward your family’s deadline whether you spend it here or on a story quest.
The ability you need is Astral Communion, a Witchcraft skill that unlocks automatically during the Prologue. You do not need to invest points or find a teacher for it. The enemies that spawn are spectral, so bring a weapon that deals bonus damage against supernatural targets before you start.

Haunted Sites use a white skull icon on the world map. They will not appear on their own, though. The fastest way to populate all four is to climb the game’s 11 Towers and scout from the top of each, which fills the map with question mark icons covering every open-world location and collectible in the region.
Tackle the towers early and do them at night, when the Shadowstep Vampirism skill lets you teleport up walls instead of hunting for a climbing route. Shapeshift, also from the Vampirism tree, and Mercurial Fervor from Witchcraft both cut down the travel time between sites once the markers are up.
How to complete a Haunted Site

All four Haunted Site locations
Three of the four sit around the central portion of the valley. Only the Destroyed Caravan pulls you meaningfully south.
| Haunted Site | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Site of Crucifixion | Hilltop near the Eerie Knoll shrine, directly beside an Ancient Circle |
| Mass Grave | Along the road northeast out of Shrike’s Crag, in the woods just short of a Tatzelwurm Lair |
| River Massacre | On the riverbed south of the Ruined Hut shrine, where Volk appears for the Buried Past quest |
| Destroyed Caravan | Due west of the Howling Keep in Tantari Woods |
Site of Crucifixion
The easiest one to fold into an existing trip, since it shares a hilltop with an Ancient Circle and the Eerie Knoll shrine sits right there for fast travel. The note here is the Exorcist’s Account, which references Emanoil Voda, Ion Borsa, and Romulus Sarata. Clearing it yields the Unholy Vitality Manual.

Mass Grave
Leave Shrike’s Crag on the road heading northeast and follow it into the woods. Stop before you reach the Tatzelwurm Lair nearby, unless you want that fight as well. The chest here holds the Soul Reaping Manual and a pair of epic Tough Leather Boots.

River Massacre
Head south from the Ruined Hut shrine and down to the water. This is the same stretch of riverbed where you meet Volk during the Buried Past quest, so you may have already passed through it. Rewards include the Soul Reaping Manual and the epic Grayrock Blade.

Destroyed Caravan
The southern outlier. Travel to the Howling Keep in Tantari Woods and move straight west from it to reach the wrecked wagons. The chest contains the Unholy Vitality Manual and Nature’s Bane, an epic ring.

Haunted Site rewards: Unholy Vitality and Soul Reaping
The manuals are the real draw. Two sites hand over Unholy Vitality and two hand over Soul Reaping, and both perks feed directly into sustain during longer fights.
| Perk | Effect |
|---|---|
| Unholy Vitality | Regenerates health after you use an active ability |
| Soul Reaping | Applies lifesteal to the target and briefly staggers it |
Beyond the manuals, the chests are stuffed with equipment, consumables, and silverware. Named drops that turn up across the four sites include the Rebel’s Exquisite Falchion, the Highland Noble Surcoat, The Bulwark, and the Ring of Quick Strikes, alongside consumables like Minor Authentic Attunement, Potent Fortitude Paste, Tainted Marrow, and the Potent Razor Claw Vial.
Each site also coughs up a piece of silver. A Silver Cross, Silver Chalice, Silver Earrings, and a Silver Bowl all come out of these chests, and silver items exist to be sold rather than used, so hang onto them for the trader.
Why the ritual won’t start
If there is no Astral Communion prompt when you walk up to the bodies, work through these in order. Nothing here requires a reload or a fresh save.
- It’s night. Haunted Sites are day-only. Sleep or wait until sunrise and the interaction returns.
- You’re on the wrong corpse. Only one body triggers the summon. Hold L2 or LT and look for the yellow outline rather than mashing interact on every set of remains.
- You skipped the note. Pick up the clue on the marked bodies first, then move to the corpse that offers Astral Communion.
- The site isn’t on your map yet. Skull icons only appear after you scout from the towers, so a site you cannot find is usually one you have not revealed.
You’ll know an exorcism worked the moment the spirits stop respawning and a chest materializes in the middle of the site. Open it and the event closes out for good. With all four cleared you will have both perk manuals in duplicate coverage, four pieces of epic gear, and enough silver to make the trip pay for the Time Segments it cost you.
