The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Restore the Western Slopes Shrine

The Western Slopes shrine in Briar Sloughs sits broken until you return its missing idol. Brencis’s forces have been tearing the hearts out of shrines across Vale Sangora, and until you put this one back, the site is dead weight on your map — no fast travel, no perks, no storage. The fix is short, and the whole thing is tracked under the quest “Destroyed Shrines: Western Slopes”.

Quick answer: Take the Western Slopes Heart from the bandit camp in the clearing northeast of the shrine, run south through the woods to the shrine itself, and press F to restore it. The quest ends the moment the idol is placed.

Western Slopes shrine: quest details and heart location

Walking up to the damaged shrine and inspecting it starts the quest. From that point the objective reads “Restore the shrine”, and the heart is treated as a normal quest item you carry back on foot. Everything you need sits within a short run of the shrine itself.

Take the Western Slopes Heart from the bandit camp

Head to the clearing northeast of the shrine, where a bandit camp is set up. This is where the idol ended up, and there is no lockbox or puzzle involved — the bandits are simply holding it.

Clear the camp and loot the bodies until the Western Slopes Heart lands in your inventory. If you lose track of who has it, hold Focus Mode (L2/LT) and look for the yellow highlighting, which marks both the trail and the carrier.

Dismiss any tutorial popups that fire while you are looting, such as the crafting prompt, by hitting CONFIRM. They do not affect the quest, but they will sit over the screen until you clear them.

Carry the heart south and restore the shrine

Leave the camp and run south through the woods. The route is direct and does not require climbing or a detour, so you can shapeshift or use a movement skill to cut the trip down.

Open the map partway down to line up the exact spot. Highlighting the “Restore the shrine” objective lets you press J to pull up its journal entry if you want the full description before you arrive.

Walk up to the shrine until the “Restore the Shrine” prompt appears, then press F. Coen sets the idol back in place and the restoration plays out on the spot.

Note: restoring a shrine burns one time segment. If you have a deadline-bound quest running, do the restoration when losing a segment will not cost you anything.

How to confirm the shrine is restored

Three things change immediately once the idol is placed. The on-screen banner reads “QUEST ENDED — Destroyed Shrines: Western Slopes”, the interaction prompt switches from “Restore the Shrine” to “Use the Shrine”, and the shrine icon turns from grey to blue on your map.

From there it behaves like any of the other shrines in Vale Sangora. Interacting with it opens the menu for perks, storage, waiting to skip time, and fast travel to any shrine you have already unlocked. Fast travel itself does not consume in-game time, and it only works while you are standing at a shrine — opening the map elsewhere will not teleport you.

If the shrine will not restore

The prompt only appears when the Western Slopes Heart is actually in your inventory, so a missing prompt almost always means a body at the camp went unlooted. Bandits can drop out of view in tall grass or behind tents; sweeping the clearing with Focus Mode surfaces the idol’s yellow outline again.

The other common stumble is inspecting the shrine but never triggering the quest. If “Destroyed Shrines: Western Slopes” is not in your journal, return to the shrine and interact with it once to start it, then follow the trail out to the camp.

Western Slopes is one of 17 destroyed shrines scattered across the map, and every one of them follows the same loop — inspect the site, follow the clue to a camp, animal or corpse, take the heart back. Clearing them early pays off, because a denser shrine network means far less running across Vale Sangora later.
