The Rift update added the first real boss fight to Steal an Egg, and with it a pet you cannot steal from any nest. The Abyss Overlord only drops from the Rift encounter, and the only way to hold one is to be inside the arena hitting things when the boss dies.
Quick answer: Enter a Rift when one opens on the map, destroy the purple crystals feeding the Abyss Overlord to chew through its 27,300 HP, then attack its hand when it slams onto the platform. The kill leaves behind a Secret Rift Egg, which hatches the Abyss Overlord pet.
What the Secret Rift Egg hatches into
The Secret Rift Egg is the boss drop, and it is separate from the Riftborn, Riftbeasts, and Shattered Rift eggs that come out of the sacrifice machine in the lobby. Hatching it gives you the Abyss Overlord, a Secret-rarity pet.
Income scales the same way it does for every other pet, with the base rate multiplied by the colour mutation and the size roll. A Rainbow Abyss Overlord lands at $1.2B/s, which puts it above every Eternal that spawns in a normal biome nest, including the Gorilla King in Titan Temple.
When Rifts open and how to get inside
Rifts open across the map every 30 minutes, and the spawn is server-wide, so everyone on your server sees the same notification at the same time. The portal usually appears around the Titan Temple biome.
Walk straight into the purple portal to be pulled into the boss arena. There is no player cap on entry, and more people inside means the 27,300 HP pool drains faster, so joining a busy server is a straightforward advantage. Once you have cleared the fight once, the Rift also becomes accessible from the lobby.
Phase 1: Destroy the purple crystals
The Abyss Overlord spawns shielded by floating purple crystals that power it. Each crystal has only 35 HP, so a couple of swings clears one, and every crystal you break takes a chunk out of the boss health bar at the top of the screen.
While you work through them, red circles mark where the boss is about to strike the floor. Move out of those rings before they resolve. Falling off the edge of the arena kills you, but respawns are unlimited and you can walk straight back in, so a bad dodge costs you time rather than the reward.
Phase 2: Attack the hand weak point
Once the crystals are gone, the Abyss Overlord starts attacking with its hand. That hand is the weak point. When it comes down onto the white platform section, run to it and keep swinging until it pulls back up.
The rest of the phase is a loop. Dodge the slam, punish the hand while it rests on the floor, then reset. The health bar keeps falling with every window you take, and the fight ends when it hits zero.
Confirming the kill and hatching the egg
When the health bar empties, a cutscene plays and the Gorilla King gets dragged into the Rift. The Secret Rift Egg is left sitting on the arena floor afterwards, and you should see a “You got a Secret Rift Egg” message along with your Boss Token payout.
From there it behaves like any other egg you carry home. Open your Growing Eggs panel, place the Secret Rift Egg into a slot, and wait out the hatch timer before you press Open. Secret-tier eggs take considerably longer than biome eggs, and a large or mutated roll stretches that further.
Why the Secret Rift Egg does not drop
Participation is checked. Standing in the arena doing nothing while other players clear the crystals and the hand does not qualify you, so you need to land damage on the boss yourself before it dies. Get a few crystal breaks in early if you are worried about being late to the fight.
The other common mix-up is the machine in the lobby. Sacrificing three requested animals there produces a Riftborn, Riftbeasts, or Shattered Rift Egg. None of those pools contain the Abyss Overlord, and no amount of rerolling that banner will get you one.
Boss Tokens and Boss Mastery from repeat kills
Every successful kill pays out 1,200 to 1,500 Boss Tokens, spendable immediately in the Boss Shop on cash and treadmill boosters, a speed boost, or the 10% Mutation Consumable at 400 tokens. Kills also tick up your Boss Mastery level, which hands out extra Rift eggs and a permanent token bonus.

Because the Rift reopens every half hour, the practical routine is simple. Stay on a populated server, drop what you are doing when the notification fires, get your hits in during both phases, and let the eggs stack up while the mastery track fills in behind them.
