The Idol Taiga is the companion added alongside Skycrest, the floating island introduced in Fisch on September 5, 2026. It does not appear on a timer, it cannot be bought, and no NPC hands it over. It shows up under one specific weather condition, in one specific spot, and it only responds to one type of bait.
Quick answer: Trigger a Tropical Squall with a Tropical Squall Totem, go to the large stone idols on Skycrest, collect fireflies by holding E on the glowing lights, equip a firefly as bait, then cast near the small moving Taiga and hold E to feed it repeatedly until it is tamed.
What you need before you start
Three things gate the Idol Taiga. Miss any one of them and the companion either will not spawn or will refuse to be fed. Sort all three out before you head to the idols, because a Tropical Squall does not last forever and you do not want to spend it hunting for bait.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Tropical Squall weather | The only weather in which the Idol Taiga appears. Force it with a Tropical Squall Totem, sold at Elder Kaito’s shop on Skycrest and by other vendors. |
| Idol Favor level | Skycrest’s own progression track. You need enough Favor built up before the companion can be tamed. |
| Fireflies | The bait. Four nighttime roaming variants exist: Firefly, Loopy Five, Blue Ghost, and Gombak Bent-Winged. |
Elder Kaito’s stock rotates weekly, so the totem is not guaranteed to be sitting there every time you check. Prices for his rotating goods run from around 10,000 C$ for smaller items up to 150,000 C$ for the pricier totems.

Idol Favor is the leveling system tied specifically to Skycrest, and it acts as the key for most of the island’s content. Taming the Idol Taiga, placing Sky Crystals for the Keeper of the Sky, and unlocking extra Charm slots on the Crest Amulet all scale with it.
If the companion is on screen but nothing happens when you try to feed it, low Favor is the most likely reason. The fastest way to push the number up is Master Hiroto’s timed angler challenges on Skycrest, which scale to your current level and pay out large Favor rewards. Completing Ancient Idol trials feeds into the same track.
Taming the Idol Taiga

Tip: Grab more than you think you need. One firefly will not finish the taming, and running out mid-squall means starting the weather over.

Where to find the four firefly variants
All four firefly types roam Skycrest at night only. They are worth collecting even outside the taming process, since they double as high-tier bait for regular fishing.
- Firefly
- Loopy Five
- Blue Ghost
- Gombak Bent-Winged
If you arrive during the day, there will be no glowing lights to collect. Either wait for night or use a totem that shifts the time of day before setting off the squall.
Common reasons the taming fails
| What happens | Fix |
|---|---|
| No Idol Taiga near the idols | The weather is not a Tropical Squall. Use a totem to force it. |
| Feeding prompt does nothing | Your equipped bait is not a firefly, or your Idol Favor is too low. |
| No fireflies on the island | It is daytime. The variants only roam at night. |
| Ran out of bait mid-taming | Collect more fireflies before triggering the next squall. |
Interacting with the large stone statues is not part of the process at all. Skipping straight to the small creature at their base is the correct approach.
What the Idol Taiga does once tamed
The companion is built around Skycrest’s systems rather than being decorative. It boosts the effects of Charms equipped on your Crest Amulet, automatically sacrifices low-rarity catches at the Fire of Spirits, generates extra Idol Favor as you play, and actively spears fish for you.
The auto-sacrifice behaviour pairs directly with the Fire of Spirits during a Tropical Squall, where feeding the flame raises nearby luck and weather spawn rates and eventually summons the Abaia Hunt. The extra Favor generation also compounds, since Favor is what unlocks additional Charm slots and lets you safely place Sky Crystals for the Keeper of the Sky.
Skycrest mixes permanent content with limited Fischfest material, so some of what surrounds the island will rotate out when the festival ends. The Idol Taiga itself sits inside the island’s permanent Idol Favor progression, which makes it worth taming early rather than leaving until you have cleared everything else.
