Rose crossing the upper walkway of the Entrance Corridor in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Some walls in Dracula’s castle hold small paintings in ornate gold frames. Rose can whip-grapple into one, hang inside it, and be fired back out in any direction you aim.

Quick answer: Jump toward the painting and press the right mouse button while holding Up (W) to grapple in. Inside, hold a direction and Jump; the yellow arrow shows the launch direction. Keep Jump held briefly, then release it to launch.

How the painting launch works

The gold-framed paintings appear in the Main Hall of Dracula’s castle. The controls below use PC keys, where Rose grapples with the right mouse button.

Move close to the painting, then leap toward it. Keep Up (W) pressed and click the right mouse button to grapple. Rose is drawn into the artwork and suspended within its frame.

Once Rose is in the frame, press and hold the direction you want her to travel, such as Left + Up (A + W), while also holding Jump. The yellow aim arrow appears to show her launch direction.
Hold Jump briefly before releasing it. Rose blasts out of the painting in the direction shown by the arrow.

A brief Jump press has no effect here; keep the key down for a short time. Releasing Jump without a direction held sends Rose vertically upward.

Example: the Entrance Corridor’s upper floor

The big red-carpeted hall of the Entrance Corridor has an upper floor above the main one. It’s an iron walkway with a red door and red stairs that lead up toward the West Hall, and the painting launch is how you get onto it.

Locate the gold-framed painting on the main floor, positioned before the tall green windows, and stand immediately to its right.
Jump to the left toward the painting. Hold Up and press the grapple button so Rose is pulled inside.
Hold Left + Up together with Jump until the arrow points up and to the left. Release Jump, and Rose flies through the opening onto the upper walkway.

You know it worked when Rose is standing on the walkway, with the red door to her right and the stairs climbing up to the right.

Example: over the burning block in the Ballrooms

A chained post blocks the floor on the Ballrooms’ east side. Past it sits a block topped by burning braziers that keep dropping fire, with a gold-framed painting hanging overhead.

Stand just left of the chained post. Jump toward the painting and grapple in with Up held.

Watch the falling fire and wait for a gap. A fire drop sends Rose back to the start.
Hold Right + Jump, then let go of Jump. Rose shoots right over the burning block and lands beyond it.

Common mistakes

  • Tapping Jump instead of holding it, so no launch happens.
  • Forgetting to hold a direction, which pops Rose straight up into the ceiling.
  • If your grapple can’t reach, move closer and leap toward the painting before using it.
