Idol Favor is the progression track attached to Skycrest, the floating island added to Fisch as part of the Fischfest expansion. It behaves like a second experience bar that only counts activity on the island, and almost every gate on Skycrest reads your Idol Level before it lets you through. Charm slots, Sky Crystal placement, companion taming, and the harder challenges all scale with it.
Quick answer: Fish in Skycrest and prioritise the rarest catches you can land. Common fish pay 1 to 2 Idol Favor per catch, while rare and mythical catches can pay up to 200, so a single good catch is worth more than an hour of filler.
How Idol Favor is earned in Skycrest
Every fish you reel in while on Skycrest awards Idol Favor, and the amount is printed on the catch banner as a “+X Idol Favor” line next to the species name and weight. Fishing anywhere else in the world does not feed this bar. That makes Skycrest itself the only farming ground that matters for the level.
The payout tracks rarity, not weight. A tiny high-rarity fish will out-earn a heavy common one by a wide margin, which is why filling your bag with easy catches is the slowest possible route to a higher Idol Level.
Idol Favor per catch by rarity
The spread between the bottom and the top of the rarity ladder is enormous. These are representative payouts from Skycrest catches, and they show why the target list matters more than the hours you put in.

Master Hiroto’s timed angler challenges
Master Hiroto runs high-difficulty, timed angler challenges that adjust their difficulty to your current Idol Favor level. Clearing one pays out a large block of Favor in a single go, which makes his challenges the strongest single source of progression once your gear can survive the difficulty. If a challenge feels out of reach, spend some time raising your level through catches first, since the reward scales alongside the requirement.
The Idol Taiga companion
Idol Taiga is a Skycrest companion that generates extra Idol Favor on top of your catches. It also boosts Charm effects, auto-sacrifices low-rarity catches at the Fire of Spirits, and actively spears fish, so it compounds with everything else you are doing on the island.
Taming it takes preparation. You need enough Idol Favor first, then four night-time roaming firefly variants, which double as high-tier bait before you use them for the taming itself.

With the fireflies collected, the taming itself happens during a Tropical Squall. Because the companion feeds back into your Favor generation, unlocking it early pays for itself over a long grind.
Stack Charms and the Fire of Spirits before grinding
Charms come from completing trials at the seven stone-carved Ancient Idols on Skycrest, which are Hayate, Ebisu, Fudo, Nagomi, Goriki, Shunsoku, and Amanojaku. Each Charm levels up as you catch fish in Skycrest, giving scaling bonuses to Luck, Control, Resilience, Max Weight, Lure Speed, and Progress Speed. The two strongest ones, the Titanic Charm and the Flash Charm, come from extreme idol trials during the Tropical Squall and Raging Squall weather events.
The Crest Amulet is what lets those Charms work together, holding up to nine at once as your Idol Favor level rises. Luck-focused Charms matter most for Favor farming, since more rare hooks means more high-value payouts.
The Fire of Spirits adds another layer. During a Tropical Squall you can sacrifice caught fish there to expand the flame, which raises nearby Luck and weather spawn rates for everyone in the area. Feeding it your junk catches while fishing for rare species turns otherwise wasted low-Favor fish into a better rare-hook rate.
What a higher Idol Level unlocks
Idol Favor is not a cosmetic number. Several parts of the Skycrest content are hard-gated behind it, and you cannot skip ahead by finding items early.

The Keeper’s questline is the clearest example of the dependency. Recovering Sky Crystals from Moosewood, Terrapin Island, Roslit Bay, Snowcap Island, and elsewhere restores Abaia’s Chamber and sets up the Abaia Hunt, but each placement checks your level first. Working on Favor alongside the crystal hunt avoids a stall halfway through.
Confirming your Idol Favor is going up
Two indicators confirm progress. Each successful catch on the island shows a “+X Idol Favor” line on the catch notification, and your current Idol Level is displayed on screen alongside your cash total. If a catch produces no Favor line, you are either fishing outside Skycrest or the catch is not a species that counts toward the track.
Note: Charm levels progress separately from Idol Favor even though both advance through Skycrest fishing, so a Charm going up is not confirmation that your Idol Level moved.
Why your Idol Level stalls
- You are farming common fish. At 1 to 2 Favor each, the curve flattens almost immediately.
- You are fishing outside Skycrest. Catches from other regions do not contribute.
- You skipped the Ancient Idol trials, so you have no Luck Charms improving your rare hook rate.
- You are ignoring Master Hiroto because the challenges look hard. They remain the largest single payouts available.
The efficient loop looks the same at every stage. Clear a few Ancient Idol trials for Charms, equip them through the Crest Amulet, fish Skycrest during a Tropical Squall while feeding scrap catches to the Fire of Spirits, and cash in Master Hiroto’s challenges whenever you can clear them. Skycrest mixes permanent and limited Fischfest content, so the Favor you bank now also determines how much of the temporary material you can reach before the festival content rotates out.
