The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: How Wyatt’s Knife Throw Shuts Down Generators

Wyatt Dunn carries concealed throwing knives, and while the ability is described as a way to stun Family members from a distance, its most useful application is the escape route itself. A thrown knife registers on a generator or a car battery the same way a hand-operated shutdown does, which means an exit can be powered down long before Wyatt is anywhere near it.

Quick answer: Stand anywhere with an unobstructed arc toward the generator or car battery, aim well above the roofline or treeline between you and it, and throw. The knife lands on the objective and switches it off instantly, without Wyatt ever walking to the machine.

What a thrown knife can interact with

Knife Throw is Wyatt’s Star Sign Ability. Each throw consumes one knife from a limited stock, so the value of the ability comes from picking targets that save the most time.

The same knife also works at point-blank range. Walking up to a generator and hitting it directly turns it off just as reliably as an arcing shot, which is worth doing when the machine is already on your path and the throw would be wasted.

Knife supply and recovery

Wyatt starts with a fixed number of knives, and that number is the hard limit on the ability. Points spent in his Ability Tree can raise the starting count, which is the single most direct way to afford both an objective throw and a defensive stun in the same match.

Knives thrown at objectives are gone. Only knives that hit and stun a Family member can come back, through the Dauntless perk, and only if Wyatt moves close to that stunned Family member afterwards. The chance is 30 percent at level 1, rising to 40 and then 50 percent at higher ranks.

Note: Missed throws still cost a knife. Treat the first long-range attempt as a ranging shot and plan around having one fewer than you expect.

Disabling a generator or battery from across the map

Break out of the restraints in the basement first. The escape prompt appears as a button-mashing sequence, and finishing it quickly matters because the condition warning starts ticking while you are still tied up.

Grab an unlock tool from the nearest basement storage room before heading for a door. Wyatt’s Proficiency sits at 25 out of 50, so lockpicking is slower than it is for a dedicated unlocker and you do not want to repeat it.

Pick the basement door and get to ground level. The lockpick opens a timing minigame, and a failed attempt makes noise that pulls Family members toward you.

Find an open patch of ground outside with nothing directly overhead. A yard, a wooden ramp or a garden clearing works. Solid cover above you will eat the knife before it travels.

Face the objective and aim high, well above the rooftop or trees in the way. The knife travels on an arc, so the correct aim point looks far too steep at first. A throw sent over a house roof or over a treeline will still land on the generator on the other side.

If the first throw does not connect, adjust the angle slightly and throw again from the same spot. Keeping your position fixed between attempts is what makes the correction reliable, since only the elevation needs changing.

How to confirm the objective is down

A successful hit is audible. The generator’s running noise cuts out across the map, and the fuse box or battery gate tied to that exit stops being powered. There is no separate confirmation prompt, so the drop in ambient sound is the signal to move.

Two failure cases account for almost every miss. The first is an obstruction, meaning a roof edge, an overhang or a tree canopy sitting directly in the flight path. The second is a flat aim, where the throw is sent at the target instead of above it and drops short.

What the knife throw cannot replace

Knives only handle the powered objectives. Locked doors and gates still need an unlock tool and the lockpick minigame, so budget for the search time in workshops, sheds and toolboxes on your way through.

The fuse route is fully manual. You collect a fuse from a wall box inside the house, carry it to the fuse box, and solve the colour-matching amp puzzle to open the basement exit. Traps on staircases and doorways need dismantling by hand or with a bone scrap.

Stealth is also not on the table. Wyatt’s Stealth attribute is 5 out of 50, the lowest of his stats, so crouching past a patrolling Family member is a genuine risk rather than a reliable plan. Wells remain an emergency exit if a chase starts and there is no knife left to spend.

Three unique perks exist purely to change how knives behave, plus an Ability Tree option that reveals the Family member you stunned.

Wyatt is paid downloadable content for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, released on December 12th, 2024 alongside the Bones character and the Graveyard map. He is voiced and performed by Skeet Ulrich, and the base game is required to use him.

He is also bundled in the Friends Edition and the Friends and Family Edition, which pair him with the other DLC Victims and Family members. Because the game no longer receives updates, the knife arc behaviour described here is not going to shift under a future balance pass, and the throw stays one of the fastest ways to close out a generator or battery exit.
