The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Enter Curious Houses in Svartrau City

All six locked houses sit in Svartrau City, and each one opens the same way — from above, after dark.

All six locked houses sit in Svartrau City, and each one opens the same way — from above, after dark.

Curious Houses are the locked buildings marked with a white door icon on the Svartrau City map in The Blood of Dawnwalker. There are six of them, all inside the city, and every one hides a small self-contained mini quest along with gear, skill manuals, or quest items. The front door never opens. That is by design.

Quick answer: Go at night, circle the building until you spot an open balcony door or upper-floor window, use Shadowstep to climb up to it, and enter from there. Once inside, hold L2/LT for Focus Mode and interact with every yellow-highlighted object to close out the mini quest.

Why the front door never opens

The map marker for a Curious House points at the building, not at a usable entrance. The ground-floor door is barred permanently, so standing in the street and mashing the interact button does nothing. Access always comes from an upper level.

Most of these houses also carry a moon icon, which means they are night-only. During the day, the traversal route you need is simply not available to Coen, and the balcony sits out of reach. If a Curious House looks impossible to enter, check the in-game clock before you check anything else.

Getting inside a Curious House

Open the map and pin a white door icon in the district you want to clear. The icons cluster in Svartrau City only, so there is no reason to look for Curious Houses out in the countryside.

Travel there at night. Coen is stronger after dark and, more importantly, the vertical routes up the sides of buildings only work then.

Walk a full lap around the building and look up. You are hunting for an open balcony door, a barred window, or any upper-floor gap in the wall. That opening is the entrance.
Use Shadowstep to teleport up the wall toward the opening, chaining it across rooftops if the balcony faces away from the street. Traversal abilities like Clawride help you cover the last stretch when the roofline is awkward.

Step through the balcony door. The mini quest attached to that house starts the moment you are inside, with no NPC conversation required to trigger it.
Hold L2/LT to switch on Focus Mode and sweep the room. Interact with everything glowing yellow, paying particular attention to letters, notes, and proclamations rather than just chests.

All six Curious Houses and what they hold

The houses are spread across Svartrau City and are identified by district rather than by street address, so the white door icons remain the practical way to find them. Two of the six carry combat, and two feed directly into the Destroyed Shrines chain.

AreaMini questWhat is inside
EastMysterious InstructionAmbrus’s Soldier fight; Azure Puresteel Plate, Well-Weighted Longsword, Amulet of Focus, Recipe for Minor Vigour Infusion
North-centralWeaves of RebellionTailor’s workshop paperwork; Noble’s Azure Buskins
Central-eastWorking Her MagicMovable bookshelf hiding a study; Burning Blood Manual, Potent Vigour Infusion
CentralFaith and PunishmentDead woman, mother’s note and treason proclamation; Evil Eye Manual
South-centralEnshrined ObsessionDesk letters plus the Map of Wayside Shrines, which opens Destroyed Shrines: Hidden & Safe
South-eastDestroyed Shrines: A Hidden ShrineSeveral guards; Hidden Shrine’s Heart to return to the desecrated altar

The east house is the one to hit first if you want equipment early, since it drops four items in a single room. Enter through the barred window and expect an Ambrus’s Soldier waiting on the other side. The Mysterious Instruction note found here ties into the Manumit cache puzzle, and it can also turn up in other stashes around the city if you miss it.

In the central-east house, do not leave after a quick glance at the bedroom. The large bookshelf can be pushed aside to reveal a hidden study, and the Burning Blood Manual is in there rather than in plain sight.

Tip: Run the south-central and south-east houses back to back. The first hands you the Map of Wayside Shrines and starts the shrine investigation, and the second gives you the Hidden Shrine’s Heart to carry to the desecrated altar, which restores the shrine and closes the chain.

How to confirm a Curious House is done

The mini quest closes on its own the moment you inspect the last required yellow object. There is no NPC to report back to and no reward screen to sit through, so the journal entry clearing itself is your confirmation.

If the quest is still listed as active after you have emptied every container, you have not missed a chest. Turn Focus Mode back on and sweep the room again for a letter, note, or document that has not been read. Reading is what advances these quests, not looting.

The two reasons players get locked out

Nearly every failed attempt comes down to one of two things. The first is showing up during daylight hours, when the route to the upper floor is closed and the balcony cannot be reached. The second is exploring without Focus Mode, which hides the highlighted documents that actually count toward completion.

Since all six require night traversal and all six are inside the same city, the efficient approach is to queue several of them into a single night run. Have Shadowstep ready, keep Focus Mode on the moment you land inside, and read every note before you climb back out.
