Sin is the chaotic-alignment resource in The Veil, and it is the wall standing between you and the evil class options. It is not something you buy or loot from a chest. You earn it through actions the game considers wrong, and the fastest source is a group of NPCs who are already dying without your help.
Quick answer: Follow a whistle in the maze to find an Explorer NPC, then let it die instead of helping it. Each Explorer death awards 1 Sin. Server hop and run the same route again.
What Sin is used for in The Veil
Sin is a class progression resource. Certain classes are locked behind it, so you cannot train into the chaotic side of the class tree without a stockpile. It sits opposite offerings, which track the orderly path, and the two systems point you toward different trainers.
Carrying Sin is not free. It also marks you socially — some NPCs refuse to talk to a player with sins on their record. If you decide you want that reputation gone, sins can be washed at a shrine.
Note: class commitment is separate from the Sin grind. Super classes hybrid freely, but you only ever hold one ultra class per character, and undoing that choice means a trade with Kharvos. Farm the Sin first, decide the build second.

Add to Google Preferences →The two ways to earn Sin
| Method | Reward and cost |
|---|---|
| Letting an Explorer NPC die | 1 Sin per death. No combat required, no risk from other players, repeatable on every server. |
| Killing other players | Grants sins through the outlaw system, but it needs a target, a fight you can win, and it makes you an outlaw who other players will hunt. |
For pure throughput, the Explorer method wins. Player kills depend on who happens to be on your 16-player server; explorers spawn in the maze whether or not anyone else is around.
How to find Explorer NPCs in the maze

Standing near a dying NPC still means standing near whatever killed it. Keep your healing hotkey ready and back off the moment the mobs turn on you — the Sin lands when the explorer dies, not when you clear the room.

Night farming: faster Sin, higher risk
Enemy activity climbs at night, and that works in your favour here. More monsters around an explorer means the explorer dies sooner, so your Sin per hour goes up without you doing anything differently.
The trade-off is obvious. Night is also when the maze is most dangerous for you, and sanity drains after dark. Farm nights if you have the HP and healing to absorb a bad spawn; stick to daylight runs if you are still early and would rather lose time than progress.

Stack crypt loot on the same route
Sin alone is rarely the only thing a class path wants. While you are moving between whistles, clear the crypts on your route and pull out Stones of Accord and Idols of Hatred. They drop from the same maze you are already walking, so treating them as a separate grind wastes trips.
Both items trade actively in the community, usually one for one. If you end a session heavy on one and short on the other, trading is faster than re-running crypts hoping the drops flip.

The full Sin farming loop

Checking it worked and why Sin sometimes does not drop
Confirmation is simple: your Sin count goes up by one the moment the explorer dies. If it did not move, one of a small number of things happened.
- You helped the explorer and it survived. The reward comes from the death, not the encounter.
- You left the area before the explorer went down and the fight resolved without you.
- There was no explorer nearby at all. Whistles are the signal, so if the server is quiet, hop rather than wander.
The Veil is only days into its release on Beta v1.0.0 and patches have been landing almost daily, with the mob cap already raised from 100 to 200 and sanity behaviour retuned. Density and pacing in the maze can shift with those updates, so if a route that used to produce steady Sin suddenly dries up, check what changed before assuming the method is broken.
