Every bug in Bug Evolution is gated twice in the Bug Tree. You have to grow the previous bug to a set level, and you have to pay coins. On the spider line, that means taking a Jumping Spider to Level 28 before the Wolf Spider opens up, then raising the Wolf Spider all the way to adulthood before the Tarantula becomes available. Unlocking a new bug does not carry your level over. You hatch again as an egg and grow from scratch.
Quick answer: Reach Level 28 as a Jumping Spider, pay 1,800 coins for the Wolf Spider in the Bug Tree, then grow it from Spider Egg to Level 40 and save 12,000 coins for the Tarantula.
Wolf Spider and Tarantula unlock requirements
The Bug Tree lists three conditions on each card. Two of them are progress checks (owning the parent bug and having grown it to a level), and the third is the price. Each card also shows a Robux alternative to the coin cost.
| Bug | Must own | Level gate | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wolf Spider (Tier 4) | Jumping Spider | Lv 28 as Jumping Spider | 1,800 coins or 19 Robux |
| Mosquito (Tier 4) | Jumping Spider | Lv 28 as Jumping Spider | 1,800 coins or 19 Robux |
| Tarantula (Tier 5) | Wolf Spider | Lv 40 as Wolf Spider | 12,000 coins or 39 Robux |
Wolf Spider and Mosquito branch from the same Tier 3 Jumping Spider and have identical requirements, so the Jumping Spider grind counts toward either. The Bug Tree tracks your best level per bug (shown as “best 28” or “best 40” on the card), which means the gate is met once you have reached that level, even if you are currently playing something else.
The jump in price between tiers is the part that slows most players down. The Tarantula costs 12,000 coins, more than six times the Wolf Spider, and you only become eligible for it at Level 40. A Wolf Spider that has just reached adulthood typically has a few thousand coins at most, so plan on a long stretch of farming after the evolution.

Before the Wolf Spider card unlocks, you need the level and the coins at the same time. On the Jumping Spider path, you spend those levels as a Spiderling, which is the young stage of the bug. Biting enemies, breaking objects and finishing quests all feed both numbers, so there is no reason to farm them separately.
Keep the Quick tab of the quest panel open while you farm. Short objectives like “Eat 4 Crickets” pay coins on completion, and they line up with things you are already killing.

Larger enemies like the Sand Scorpion give more XP per kill. Target one so it gets an outline highlight, then attack with the BITE button (left mouse button on PC). Each level-up shows a banner such as “LEVEL UP! Level 23 – you grew bigger!” and your spider gets physically larger.

Between fights, break wooden crates and egg structures. They do not fight back, and they are a steady source of XP when no enemies are nearby.

How to unlock the Wolf Spider in the Bug Tree

Wolf Spider growth stages: Egg, Spiderling, adult
Spider paths grow in three stages, and the Wolf Spider only looks like a Wolf Spider at the very end. For most of the climb, you are a white Spiderling.
| Stage | Levels | Evolution message |
|---|---|---|
| Spider Egg | Lv 1–4 | None |
| Spiderling | Lv 5–39 | YOU EVOLVED! You’re a Spiderling now! |
| Wolf Spider (adult) | Lv 40+ | YOU EVOLVED! You’re a Wolf Spider now! |
Each stage change starts with a 5-second countdown before the model transforms. Right after the Spiderling evolution, spawn protection is active, which gives you a brief window to move before other players can treat you as prey.
As an egg, you can still collect glowing orbs and attack small targets. The egg stage only lasts four levels, so you can clear it by picking up orbs, breaking acorns and nibbling at beetles.

XP and coin sources on the way to Level 40
Going from Level 1 to Level 40 is the longest part of the path. Everything that gives XP is either an object you break or a creature you bite, and objects are the safer choice when bigger players are around.
| Source | Type | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Glowing ground orbs | Pickup | None |
| Acorns | Breakable | None |
| Crates and paper cubes | Breakable | None |
| Eggs (including golden striped) | Breakable | None |
| Crickets | Creature | Low |
| Big Beetle, Stag Beetle, Giant Beetle | Creature | Medium |
| Huge Stag Beetle, Sand Scorpion | Creature | Higher |
Watch for two timed bonuses. “Night hunt – 1.5x XP” runs during the night cycle and boosts everything you kill. A BONUS XP ZONE also appears in a named area (Muddy Lake is one) until the game announces “BONUS XP ZONE is over.” If you are close when either one starts, move your farming there.

Breakables: acorns, crates, paper cubes and eggs
Acorns, crates and cardboard-style paper cubes give consistent XP with no fight attached. They carry you through the low teens quickly, and acorns also count toward the “Crack 5 Acorns” quest. Acorns often gather under giant mushrooms and along cliffsides.

Caves hold clusters of eggs and crates, including golden striped eggs near the entrance. They are dark but dense, which makes them a good place to string together several levels in the mid-30s.

Creatures: crickets, beetles and scorpions
Beetles get tougher as their names get bigger. A Huge Stag Beetle has a large health bar and takes a sustained run of bites, but one kill is worth several levels in the high teens. Crickets die quickly and feed the “Eat 4 Crickets” quest.

Big Beetles and Stag Beetles often show up in pairs around logs and mushroom trunks. Fighting two at a time is manageable in the high 20s and 30s, and the damage numbers above each target let you see how close a kill is.

Quick quests and playtime coins
Quests are where most of your coins come from on this path, and they pay out automatically when the counter fills. A “QUEST COMPLETE!” banner confirms the payout. A PLAYTIME REWARD of +100 coins also pops up with a CLAIM! button, and it stays unclaimed until you press it.

| Quest | Reward |
|---|---|
| Eat 4 Crickets | +28 coins |
| Crack 5 Acorns | +36 coins |
| Eat 14 bugs | +35 coins |
| Earn 750 XP | +39 coins |
| Reach Level 30 | +150 coins |
| Playtime reward | +100 coins |

Level-ups keep coming steadily in the mid-30s if you mix breakables with beetle kills. Each one shows the same banner, and your bug grows a little more with every level.

Trait choices at Level 10, 20, 30 and 40
At every tenth level, a “Choose a Trait” screen pauses the climb and offers three options. There is always one Movement, one Defensive and one Offensive trait, and you take one by pressing its Select button. The options vary from one milestone to the next, and some traits show up more than once.
| Level | Movement | Defensive | Offensive |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Skitter | Thick Carapace | Lucky Bite |
| 20 | Marathon | Big Appetite | Glass Fangs |
| 30 | Sprinter | Big Appetite | Quick Fangs |
| 40 | Sprinter | Leech Fangs | Glass Fangs |
Some traits are pure upsides, and others trade one stat for another. Read the full effect line before selecting, because the downside is listed right on the card.
| Trait | Bonus | Downside |
|---|---|---|
| Skitter | Sprint costs -25% stamina | Health -4% |
| Thick Carapace | Max Health +12% | None |
| Lucky Bite | 12% chance to bite for 2x | None |
| Marathon | Stamina +25% | None |
| Big Appetite | XP Gain +10% | None |
| Glass Fangs | Bite Damage +15% | Max Health -8% |
| Sprinter | Move Speed +15% | Bite Speed -6% |
| Quick Fangs | Bite Speed +10% | None |
| Leech Fangs | Heal 6% of bite damage | None |
For the goal here, which is getting to Level 40 and then to 12,000 coins, Big Appetite is the most direct option, since it raises XP gain and appears at both Level 20 and Level 30. Glass Fangs speeds up beetle kills, but it cuts your max health, which matters more once you are big enough that other players come looking for you.

Evolving into the adult Wolf Spider at Level 40
At Level 39, the panel lists evolving into a Wolf Spider as the next milestone, at Level 40. On reaching that level, the Level 40 trait selection—Sprinter, Leech Fangs, or Glass Fangs—appears alongside a 5-second evolution countdown.

You know it worked when the banner reads “YOU EVOLVED! You’re a Wolf Spider now!” and the white Spiderling becomes a large brown spider with markings on its abdomen. This also satisfies the “Grow up as Wolf Spider (Lv 40)” line on the Tarantula card in the Bug Tree.

At full size, you also become a target and a contender. The server feed regularly announces a new “KING BUG,” and other players, including flyers like the Housefly, will be roaming the same areas. To see who else is on the server, open the Roblox menu’s People tab, then press Resume to get back into the game.

Saving 12,000 coins for the Tarantula
Once you are a Level 40 Wolf Spider, the coins are the only thing left between you and the Tier 5 Tarantula. Open the Bug Tree and select the Tarantula card to see your progress. If you are short, the card shows “Need 12000 coins,” and the Unlock button stays unavailable until you have the full amount, unless you choose the 39 Robux option.
The method doesn’t change. Keep the Quick tab running, claim every playtime reward, and farm acorns, beetles and cave eggs, preferably during Night Hunt or inside a Bonus XP Zone. When the Unlock goes through, the server feed posts your Tarantula unlock, and the cycle starts again from an egg, one tier higher.
