The demand shows up in the sales data. In the UK, PS5 sales jumped 33% and Xbox Series S and X sales rose 34% in the week after the Netflix reveal, according to NielsenIQ figures. That spike follows a broader slump, with UK console hardware down 14.4% year-on-year by the end of July.
Why prices spiked now
Three things are pushing prices up at once. The GTA 6 Extended Look drew 31.1 million viewers and sent pre-orders soaring, creating a wave of first-time and upgrade buyers. On top of that, Rockstar and Sony signed a marketing deal built around the message that GTA 6 “plays best” on PlayStation, steering attention toward the Pro specifically.
An ongoing memory-chip shortage is the third factor, keeping console supply tight regardless of the game. That combination is unusual because a two-year-old console this far into a generation would normally be getting cheaper, not commanding a markup on top of an already raised price.
What to do if you want a PS5 Pro for GTA 6
GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so there is still time for supply to loosen before then. Until the game is out, and likely for a few months after, console prices are expected to stay elevated, with the sharpest pressure on the PS5 Pro. The safest move is patience.
