Every Civilian Escape Method in Halloween: The Game (Explained)

The five ways a Civilian can leave Haddonfield alive, what each one needs, and the escape-point limit to plan around.

The five ways a Civilian can leave Haddonfield alive, what each one needs, and the escape-point limit to plan around.

Getting a Civilian out of Haddonfield in Halloween: The Game comes down to reaching one of five exit routes before Michael Myers reaches you. Each route asks for a different set of items or a different amount of preparation, and none of them is strictly better than the others. The right pick is whichever one you can finish fastest from where you are standing.

Quick answer: You can escape by calling the police for a patty wagon, opening a storm cellar, powering the outer gates with a fuse, repairing and driving the sedan, or simply surviving until the night timer ends. Every physical escape point holds only three survivors, counting any residents you send through it.

Escape methods and what each one requires

The table below lists every Civilian exit route with its requirements and the main catch to watch for. Read it as a shortlist, then commit to the option that matches the items you already carry.

MethodWhat you needKey detail
Police patty wagonEnough successful police callsCalls stack; residents can call too
Storm cellarCorrect key or bolt cuttersClear the blocked entrance first
Outer gatesKey or bolt cutters, plus a fuseFuses rarely spawn
SedanGas, sedan keys, repair kitEngine can break again
Survive the nightNothingStay alive until the timer ends

Note: Each escape point caps out at three survivors, and any residents or NPCs you guide to it count against that limit. Split your group across different exits if you are trying to save more than three people.

Call the police for the patty wagon

The patty wagon is one of the more forgiving routes because you do not need any escape items, only enough successful phone calls. Houses with working phones have residents who can dial for you, so you can make the call yourself or order a resident to do it. Successful calls stack and raise the police response level, so pull in as many callers as you can.

Find a house with a working phone and start a call. A skill-check minigame appears while you dial.
Complete the minigame cleanly. Failing it cancels that call, so treat the skill check as the difference between a wasted attempt and a stacked one.
Keep calling until the response fills. The wagon generally starts arriving at around two and a half badges of response.
When the wagon parks, two armed officers step out. Climb in through the back to escape, or lead residents to it before it leaves.

Open a storm cellar

Storm cellars sit in random spots around the map, usually tucked into a back or side yard, and their entrances always start blocked. This is a quick route once you have a way through the lock, and other survivors can reuse a cellar after you clear it.

Clear the entrance. Depending on the spot, that means pulling out overgrown weeds or smashing wooden boards with a two-handed weapon.
Unlock the doors with the matching key or a set of bolt cutters.

Power the outer gates with a fuse

The outer gates work almost exactly like a storm cellar, with one extra demand that makes them the hardest route to complete on short notice. You still clear the blockage and unlock it, but the gate will not run without a fuse, and fuses are scarce. The gates always sit along the outer edge of the map, and a fuse often spawns somewhere nearby.

Clear anything blocking the gate, such as weeds or wooden boards.
Unlock the gate with the correct key or bolt cutters.
Fit a fuse to bring the gate to life, then walk through. Because fuses turn up so rarely, hold onto one the moment you find it or note exactly where you left it.

Repair and drive the sedan

The sedan needs three separate items before it moves. You have to find gas, the sedan keys, and a repair kit, and you have to be sure the keys you grabbed are the car keys rather than a key meant for a cellar or gate. Gas tends to appear in common outdoor areas rather than inside houses, including garages, backyards, and the ground beneath the water tower.

Collect gas, the sedan keys, and a repair kit.
Use the repair kit to fix the engine before you attempt to drive. A minigame accompanies getting the car running.
Drive out carefully. If you crash, if Michael strikes the car or throws something at it, or if he triggers his Blackout ability, the engine breaks again and you will need a fresh repair kit to restart it.

Survive the night

The last option asks for no items at all. If every exit is out of reach, you can outlast Michael by staying alive until the night timer runs out. Hiding spots, distance, and staying with teammates all buy time, but a full survival run is the most demanding option because it keeps you exposed for the entire match rather than removing you from the map early.

Confirm the exit and manage the three-survivor cap

You know a route is ready when the on-screen objective updates to name it, such as a prompt to use the storm cellar, and the interaction becomes available at the door, gate, wagon, or car. Starting an escape sequence makes noise and points Michael toward your exact position, so trigger it only when you are prepared to leave.

Use the map and objectives screen to track which exits you have prepared and which residents still need saving. Because each physical escape point holds three survivors at most, spread rescues across separate exits when you want to get a larger group out.

When you reach a hidden resident, command them to escape and steer them toward a cleared exit that still has room. Residents follow the same three-per-exit rule as players, so decide early which survivors go through which route to avoid stranding anyone at a full escape point.

With all five routes in mind, the winning habit is to prepare more than one exit early and keep the fastest option in reserve. Calls stack in the background while you clear cellars or gates, the sedan rewards anyone who gathered its three items in advance, and surviving the night stays as a fallback when Michael has locked down everything else.
