A breakdown of the Mega Man X outfit, back bling, pickaxe, and emote, plus how the Cel and Gradient shading options differ.

Mega Man X arrives in Fortnite as a four-piece Capcom set built around the Maverick Hunter’s blue armor, and the outfit ships with two very different looks baked into the same purchase. One is flat and cel-shaded, the other uses smooth 3D shading, and you can flip between them at any point without buying anything extra.

Quick answer: The Mega Man X bundle contains the Mega Man X Outfit, E-Tank Power Pack Back Bling, Buster Cannon Blades Pickaxe, and Mega Buster Flex Emote. Switch the outfit, back bling, and pickaxe between the CEL and GRADIENT styles from the Edit Style menu in your Locker.

All four cosmetics belong to the same set, and three of the four carry the dual shading treatment. The emote is the only piece without style variants.

The outfit itself is the familiar X silhouette: blue armor plating, a helmet with a red gem set into the forehead, and armored boots. The E-Tank Power Pack sits on the back as an energy canister rather than a bulky pack, so it does not obscure much of the armor detail.

How to switch between the Cel and Gradient styles

Open the Locker and select the Mega Man X outfit from your Outfits list. The preview loads with whichever style was last applied.
Choose Edit Style. Two options appear, labelled CEL and GRADIENT, and the character model updates in the preview as soon as you highlight one.

Repeat the same process on the E-Tank Power Pack and the Buster Cannon Blades. Each item stores its style independently, so mixing a Cel pickaxe with a Gradient outfit is possible if you want it.

The difference is straightforward. Cel gives the armor hard-edged shadow bands and thick outlines, matching the sprite-and-anime look of the source games. Gradient drops those outlines and blends the lighting smoothly across the armor, which reads as a standard modern Fortnite skin. Gradient also holds up better at distance, since Cel’s heavy black linework can flatten the model when the camera pulls back.

Note: You can also run the outfit with no back bling equipped at all, which leaves the shoulder and back armor completely unobstructed.

What the pickaxe and emote actually do

Buster Cannon Blades is an arm-mounted harvesting tool rather than a held weapon. A spinning energy saw blade attaches to the character’s forearm, so the swing animation comes from the arm itself instead of a swung object. It works on any outfit, not just Mega Man X.

Mega Buster Flex is a built-in emote, meaning it adapts to the character using it. The arm converts into a buster cannon and fires energy blasts upward. On Mega Man X the transformation lines up with the model’s own armor, which is the cleanest version of the animation.

How the outfit performs in matches

Neither style changes hitbox size, movement, or anything else mechanical. The only practical consideration is visibility. The blue-and-white armor is bright, and the Gradient version catches directional light more than the Cel version does, so it stands out slightly more in open ground.

Blitz Royale is the quickest place to check a new skin in motion, since matches compress the full drop-to-endgame loop into a short window. Zero Build solo queues also give you a clear view of the model without walls constantly cutting the camera.

The Mega Buster is a separate island item, not part of the cosmetic set. Anyone can pick it up and use it regardless of which outfit they are wearing, and it is the weapon tied to the collab’s spray challenge.

How to get the Mega Man X outfit

There have been two routes. The first was the Override Series: Mega Man Cup, a competitive window that ran September 8 and 9 across three separate formats, with placement-based cosmetic rewards for top finishers in each region.

Alongside the placement rewards, any player could earn the Override Buster Blast Spray by getting 5 eliminations with the Mega Buster. That challenge counted in any of the three sessions, so a poor leaderboard finish still left a cosmetic on the table. Cup schedules and regional session times are listed on the official Fortnite competitive page.

The second route is the Item Shop. Missing the Cup does not lock you out — the Mega Man cosmetics are sold for V-Bucks, with the X set purchasable as a bundle. Epic has not published a confirmed price for the individual outfit.

To confirm the set landed on your account, open the Locker and check Outfits for Mega Man X. If it is there, the back bling, pickaxe, and emote will appear in their own Locker categories, and Edit Style will show both shading options on all three items. If the outfit is missing after a purchase or a Cup placement, cosmetics from competitive events can take time to be distributed, so a full client restart is the first thing to try.

The rest of the Mega Man collab

X is one of three characters in the crossover. Classic Mega Man and Zero from the Mega Man X series round out the roster, with Zero carrying the largest number of style variants of the three. Epic’s teaser recreated the classic character-select screen, which is where Zero’s silhouette was first spotted.

Beyond the outfits, the collab includes a Rush Sidekick based on Mega Man’s robotic dog, which players can ride, plus additional pickaxes such as a Z-Saber, extra back blings, and sprays. It all sits inside Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, which opened on August 20 with Sonic and Tetris available through the Battle Pass and other gaming icons rotating into the Item Shop over the course of the season.

If you are deciding between the two styles before you commit, it is worth loading into a match with each. Cel is the more faithful tribute and reads best in the Locker and in close-quarters replays, while Gradient blends into Fortnite’s own art direction and holds its shape better at range.
