Crimson Desert: How to Fix the Dismantled Kiln at the Kilnden Workshop

The two pieces that fit, the Force Palm rank you need, and how to confirm the kiln actually locks together.

The dismantled kiln is the one part of the Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop quest that stops people cold. It shows up early in Chapter 4, in the Hernandian Territory, and the game hands you a tooltip about assembling the fragments without telling you the one thing that matters: the move that fuses the pieces is a second-rank ability. Plenty of players spend an hour stacking stone correctly and still get nothing.

Quick answer: Use Axiom Force (hold L3 / left stick) to stack the two jagged-edged pieces on the kiln base, then climb up, jump, and use Force Palm (R3 / right stick) in midair to fuse them. Aerial Force Palm requires Force Palm rank 2 — without it, nothing locks. Finish by pushing the yellow lever at the base.

Abilities you need before touching the kiln

Two abilities carry this objective, and one of them has a rank requirement that the tutorial panel never spells out. The prompt telling you to jump and use Force Palm appears whether or not you own the upgrade, so the instruction reads as if it should work when it can’t.

AbilityInputWhat it does here
Axiom ForceHold L3 / left stickLifts, rotates, and positions the loose kiln pieces
Force PalmR3 / right stickThe slam attack that fuses stacked pieces
Aerial Force Palm (Force Palm rank 2)Jump, then R3 / right stick in midairRequired. The grounded or crouched version will not lock the pieces

Note: if you respecced before this quest, check your skill tree. A reset drops Force Palm back to rank 1, and the objective becomes impossible until you spend a point on it again.

Update 1.18.00 added another route. If you have unlocked the Force Current upgrade, you can use it to reattach the broken kiln parts instead of relying on the aerial slam.

Which two kiln pieces actually fit

Several large stone chunks are scattered around the base, and most of them are decoys. Only two belong on this kiln, and both share the same tell — rough, jagged edges that look genuinely broken rather than cleanly cut.

PieceWhere it sitsHow to spot it
Middle sectionNear the wall off to one side of the base, at ground levelDonut-shaped ring with a broken, jagged bottom
Top sectionBehind the kiln, further down the slopeFlat top with a metal grate on it

You get instant feedback on whether you picked the right one. Hold a correct piece over the kiln with Axiom Force and it snaps into the proper orientation on its own. Leaves swirl around the top when it is seated, and the fragment glow shifts colour once the cracks line up. A wrong piece just hangs there and never settles.

Stacking and fusing the dismantled kiln

Stand back from the base so the whole structure is in view, hold L3 to grab the donut-shaped middle section, and lift it above the kiln. Use the rotate and pull/push controls to turn it until the break lines face the matching edge on the base.

Release it onto the base. The piece should drop into place and correct its own alignment. If it tumbles off or refuses to settle, you have grabbed one of the decoy chunks.
Fetch the second piece, the one with the grate on top, and stack it on the section you just placed. You can leave both pieces resting on top of each other and fuse them in one go, or fuse the first before adding the second — either order works.
Climb up the side of the stack until you are standing on the grate. Jump straight up and trigger Force Palm while you are still in the air, aiming the slam directly downward. That impact is what welds the sections into a single structure.
Drop back down and push the yellow lever on the side of the kiln until it clicks into position. The kiln ignites and the objective clears.

How to confirm the kiln is repaired

Three things happen when it works. The kiln stops looking like a pile of rubble and reads as one solid tower, the fire and smoke start once you throw the lever, and the quest tracker ticks the objective off. You also pick up the Irkyn knowledge entry, which pops on screen as a Knowledge Acquired notification.

If the lever does nothing, the pieces were never fused. Climb back up and repeat the aerial slam.

Why the pieces won’t lock: common failure causes

Almost every case of this objective refusing to complete comes down to one of a short list of causes.

  • Force Palm is still rank 1. The tooltip shows up anyway, but the aerial version cannot be performed. Put a point into the skill and try again.
  • You are crouching instead of jumping. The game specifically blocks the crouched slam here, and using it can knock the pieces off the base and send them rolling down the hill.
  • The pieces are not aligned. Correct pieces auto-rotate and the break lines change colour when seated. If neither happens, reposition or swap the fragment.
  • A required object is missing from the ground. Restarting the game clears it in most cases. If it still does not appear, load an autosave from the end of the previous quest and replay from there.

With this kiln burning, the remaining markers are the disconnected kiln, which only needs its loose pipe pushed back into its socket, and the fuel kiln, which wants five glowing spheres slotted into the openings around its base. Grimnir is waiting back at the workshop once all three are lit.
