The Rift update turns Steal An Egg into a part-time boss rush. Every half hour a purple tear opens somewhere on the map, and stepping through it drops you into a fight against the Abyss Overlord. Win, and you walk out with Boss Tokens, Boss Mastery progress, and access to a crafting machine that spits out pets you cannot get anywhere else.
Quick answer: Wait for a Rift to open (roughly every 30 minutes, usually near the Titan Temple or Cherry Blossom biomes), walk into the portal, destroy the crystals around the Overlord, then hit its arms and head with your bat when they drop. Each kill pays out 1,200 to 1,500 Boss Tokens.
Where and when Rifts open
A Rift spawns in a random biome about every 30 minutes and is visible to everyone on the server. In practice the timer can run a little long, so an hour-plus wait between openings happens. The portals tend to appear in the farthest zones, most often around Titan Temple and Cherry Blossom.
A banner reading “Abyss Overlord is spawning in 30 seconds” appears at the top of the screen just before the fight goes live. Head to the purple portal and step in. Multiple players can enter the same Rift at once, and teaming up makes the fight far easier since the boss has a five-minute timer.
How to beat the Abyss Overlord
The Overlord has 7,000 HP and two phases. Your only weapon is the bat, so the fight is about attacking during safe windows and dodging its slams.
The fight ends when the health bar empties. You will automatically receive 1,200 to 1,500 Boss Tokens straight into your inventory, which confirms the kill counted.
Boss Shop and the Fractured mutation
Boss Tokens are spent in the Boss Shop, which sits inside the portal and can also be opened through the Rift icon (the purple fragment) on the right side of the screen. It stocks temporary boosters and the Mutation Consumable.

To apply the Fractured mutation, hold the Mutation Consumable in your avatar’s hand and press E while standing next to an egg you have already placed in your pen. It works on any egg, including Rift-exclusive and random ones, and on both growing and fully grown eggs. It does not work on pets directly.
There is only a 10% chance the mutation triggers on each use, so a consumable can fail. When it lands, it boosts the hatched pet’s income by 2.75 times. If you are farming income or treadmill progress instead, the Cash and Treadmill boosters are the more practical buys.
Boss Mastery reward track
Every Overlord kill also adds to Boss Mastery, a milestone track that pays out fixed rewards the more times you win. Click the Rift icon and claim each reward once you hit the level.

The permanent 50% token boost at five kills is worth chasing early, since it speeds up every purchase after it.
How the Rift Machine works
Separate from the timed boss, a permanent Rift Machine sits in the lobby near the Trails Shop. It trades pets for eggs. Feed it three specific animals across any of its three banners, and it hands back one Rift Egg. All three banners ask for the same three pets at any given time.
The machine tells you exactly which pets it wants and where to find them. If you are missing one, use the free or Robux rerolls to change the sacrifice options, though there is no guarantee which pet appears. Which egg you receive is random within these odds:

The Shattered Rift Egg is the standout target. It is the only source of the Shattered Colossus, the only Divine-rarity pet in the Rift system, at 3.5 billion per second. Because that egg only appears 20% of the time from the machine and the Colossus is a 0.5% pull inside it, it is the rarest reward in the whole event.
Pity system and rotation
The Rift Machine carries a pity counter that improves your odds at the 4% and 0.5% pets. Crafting 50 eggs is meant to guarantee either a Divine or Eternal pet, though this appears to be glitched right now. Pity carries over even if you leave the game.
Here is the catch. The banner rotation every 3 hours resets your pity, so a long chase for a high-rarity pet has to fit inside a single rotation window. Plan your sacrifices around the current banner before it swaps, and lean on the Boss Mastery track for guaranteed eggs while you grind the Overlord.
