Borderlands 4: How to Unlock the RelaxMech Boss Fight

The Digi-Gauntlet: You Can't Fire Me, I Quit story quest gates the RelaxMech fight, and it costs $25,000,000 to start.

The Digi-Gauntlet: You Can’t Fire Me, I Quit story quest gates the RelaxMech fight, and it costs $25,000,000 to start.

RelaxMech sits at the end of a locked-down corporate retreat on Providence Island, and there is no shortcut to the arena. The boss only becomes available after you push through a single story quest that runs from a membership desk in Bagheera Range to a hidden HOA lair above Vine Pointe Lodge. Everything in between is a chain of gates, and each one has to be cleared in order.

Quick answer: Complete the “Digi-Gauntlet: You Can’t Fire Me, I Quit” story quest on Providence Island. Pay J3VVES $25,000,000, collect the loot codes, blow the security door with three skull bombs, restore backup power, survive the deadframe waves, then ride the elevator to the HOA Secret Lair to start the RelaxMech fight.

What you need before starting the Digi-Gauntlet quest

The largest barrier is money, not combat. J3VVES will not open the path until you hand over a Tranquility membership fee in full, and the game takes it as a single lump sum. Bank the cash before you travel out there so you are not forced to farm mid-quest.

How to unlock RelaxMech in Borderlands 4

Track the Digi-Gauntlet quest from your map and travel to Bagheera Range. Head inside the building at the marker and speak to J3VVES to accept the mission.
Pay the $25,000,000 membership fee when J3VVES asks for it. The cash comes straight out of your balance and unlocks the route deeper into the resort, so there is no way to negotiate around it.
Wait for Manager Schulmann to call. Your objective updates to finding him, which is what points you toward the canopy section of the map.

Take the zipline across to the Vinechoked Canopy. Check your mission log once you land and it will list two running objectives, finding Schulmann and collecting loot codes.

Zipline down to the cave, clear out the Tediore forces guarding it, and grab the first loot code. Fight through the resort area to pick up the second and third codes.
Move on to Vine Pointe Lodge and take the fourth loot code. Your objective counter ticks up as you go, so use it to check whether you have missed one before pushing ahead.

Follow the path to the locked security door. Kill the Tediore enemies in the area until you have three skull bombs, since the door will not open any other way.
Place all three skull bombs on the door, back off, and shoot them to blow it open. The breach exposes the control room behind it.

Step inside and use the console. You need five loot codes slotted in before backup power can be restored, so slot them all and trigger the power.
Defend the room. Restoring power wakes up Lieutenant Harmony, who sends deadframe waves at you, including voltaic and searing badass variants that hit hard in close quarters.

With the waves cleared, take the elevator up to the HOA Secret Lair. RelaxMech is waiting at the top, and the fight begins as soon as you arrive.

How to tell the unlock worked

There is no separate confirmation prompt for RelaxMech. The elevator ride into the HOA Secret Lair is the unlock, and the boss encounter starts on its own once you are inside the arena.

If the run stalls, it is almost always one of a handful of hard gates rather than a bug.

Where it stopsWhy
Path out of Bagheera Range stays shutThe $25,000,000 fee has not been paid to J3VVES
Security door will not openFewer than three skull bombs placed, or they have not been shot
Console will not restore powerFive loot codes are not slotted in yet
Elevator is inactiveDeadframe waves are still spawning and have not been cleared

Re-fighting the boss after the first kill

Once a boss arena in Borderlands 4 has been cleared, Moxxi’s Big Encore station appears in it permanently. Interacting with the station respawns the boss for a cash fee that scales with your level, which replaces the old habit of quitting to the menu and reloading. Loot scales to your level as well, so repeat runs stay relevant as you grow.

Note: after you finish the campaign, one boss per week is designated the Weekly Big Encore Boss. That version carries extra modifiers and better drop odds, but it costs Eridium instead of cash.

The whole sequence is short once you know the order, and the real planning happens before you ever reach Providence Island. Show up with the $25,000,000 already banked and a loadout that can handle a cramped room full of electrified deadframes, and the walk to the HOA Secret Lair takes only a few minutes.
