Borderlands 4: The Chase Full Quest Walkthrough

Every objective in The Chase, from soothing Mr. Chew to reaching the Volcano Fortress and FL4K's hologram.

Every objective in The Chase, from soothing Mr. Chew to reaching the Volcano Fortress and FL4K’s hologram.

The Chase picks up the moment the previous mission ends, and it hands you a tracker instead of a waypoint. FL4K’s pet Skag, Mr. Chew, leads the route across Providence Island, and the mission only advances when you keep pace with him, clear what he runs into, and then take over once his trail ends at the hideout.

Quick answer: Soothe Mr. Chew in the Chamber Pavilion to start the mission, follow him through The Upper Crust into FL4K’s Sanctum, fit his collar, free all three caged pets, then use FL4K’s computer and ride across the Pyroclast Field lava to the FOB Staging Grounds. Clear the Tediore waves, open the fortress door, and talk to FL4K’s hologram to roll into Find Signal Scramblers.

The Chase objective list and locations

The mission runs in a fixed order. Nothing here is optional, and the map areas change as you go, so use the table to check where you are before you backtrack.

Start The Chase in the Chamber Pavilion

Walk up to Mr. Chew in the Chamber Pavilion and use the prompt to soothe him. That single interaction closes out The Skag and the Robot and immediately swaps your tracked mission over to The Chase.

Stay behind Mr. Chew as he cuts through The Upper Crust. He stops whenever wildlife or hostiles block the path, so clear the area and he starts moving again on his own.
Follow him to a sealed door. He opens the entrance to FL4K’s hideout himself, so you do not need a key or a console here.

Collar Mr. Chew and free FL4K’s caged pets

Inside FL4K’s Sanctum, grab Mr. Chew’s collar from where it has been left behind. Picking it up is not enough on its own.
Walk back to Mr. Chew and use the second prompt to put the collar on him. The objective text changes from taking the collar to giving it, which is your cue that the item is in your inventory and the Skag is waiting.
Climb to the high platform above the area for the vantage point objective. This is a scouting stop that opens up the next leg of the route toward the Vinechoked Canopy.
Regroup with Mr. Chew and keep following him. Tediore forces replace the wildlife from here, and the Skag will not push forward while they are still shooting.
Find and open all three Tediore cages holding FL4K’s other pets, a mix of Pangolins and Creeps. The counter only clears at three, and the hideout search objective will not appear until every cage is open.

Tip: the cages are spread around the hideout exterior rather than clustered in one room, so sweep the outer ledges before assuming one is missing.

Search FL4K’s Hideout and use the computer

Head into the main room of the hideout. This is the interior search leg, and it is short, so loot it on the way through rather than doubling back later.

Interact with FL4K’s computer terminal. The readout pins FL4K’s location at the Volcano Fortress and replaces the search objective with Go to the Volcano Fortress.

Cross the Pyroclast Field to the FOB Staging Grounds

Leave the hideout and enter the Pyroclast Field. The ground here is broken up by rivers of lava, so you travel on the hoverboard across the flows instead of looking for a walkable path around them.
Ride the waypoint line until the FOB Staging Grounds banner appears. That banner confirms you are at the fortress approach and not at one of the field’s side pockets.

Fight through the Tediore waves under the Rescue FL4K stage. This is the longest combat stretch in the mission and runs several minutes, so bring ammo rather than clearing it with one loadout.
Once the area is clear, use the console at the fortress door. The door interaction is locked out while enemies are still active, so if the prompt is missing, there is still a straggler on the field.

Talk to FL4K and how the mission ends

Opening the fortress puts you in front of a hologram of FL4K rather than FL4K in person. The conversation does not get to finish — Lieutenant Harmony cuts into the transmission and jams the signal.

You know it worked when the tracked objective flips to Find Signal Scramblers. That is the handoff out of The Chase and into the next task, restoring communication by taking out the scramblers blocking the line.

Why objectives stall during The Chase

  • Mr. Chew stops and waits when hostiles are nearby. Clearing the area, not standing closer, restarts the follow objective.
  • Holding the collar does not complete that step. You have to return to Mr. Chew and equip it on him.
  • The hideout search will not open while any of the three pet cages is still shut.
  • The fortress door console stays inactive until every Tediore unit at the staging grounds is down.

Run start to finish, the mission is a long escort with two set-piece stops, and almost every soft lock traces back to an enemy you left alive or a prompt you picked up but never used. Keep Mr. Chew’s path clear, check the objective wording before you backtrack, and the route to the Volcano Fortress stays straightforward.
