Loveless runs on RAM. Critical hits and status effects fill the bar, a full bar turns her next melee swing into an Empowered strike, and the fuller the bar sits, the more gun damage she deals. That single mechanic is why her blue tree, Hack / Slash, splits cleanly into two very different leveling paths that both feed off the same resource.
Quick answer: Around level 30, put points into Jacked In, Odium, Death Begets Death, and Flow State for the melee build, or into Methodical, Infinite Murder Hack, Refactored Damage Formula, and the accelerat.exe capstone for the sniper build. Both use Visual Paradox Nexus as the Action Skill.
What RAM and Visual Paradox Nexus do
RAM is Loveless’ Vault Hunter Trait. Landing critical hits or applying status effects fills the bar. Once it is full, her next melee attack becomes Empowered, dealing dramatically increased damage and consuming the entire bar. If you hold onto a full bar instead, you keep a gun damage bonus that scales with how full it is. RAM drains on its own if you stop generating crits or status effects, so neither build can sit still for long.
Visual Paradox Nexus is the Action Skill tied to Hack / Slash. It raises movement speed and critical hit damage for a duration. Kill something while it is active and Loveless briefly enters Stealth while spawning a Clone where the enemy died — only one Clone can exist at a time. Tapping the Action Skill again triggers the Function, a Kusarigama slash that sends out a wave of Radiation melee damage. From Stealth, that slash automatically critically hits and ends Stealth. Shooting while cloaked does not break Stealth, which is what makes the sniper variant work at all.

Add to Google Preferences →Melee build: Empowered strikes and stealth chaining
The melee side pushes critical melee damage as high as the tree allows and keeps Visual Paradox Nexus running through kills, so you are rarely out of Stealth for long.
| Skill | What it does for the build |
|---|---|
| Jacked In | Shield sustain, which keeps you alive while closing distance. |
| Disdain | Feeds the critical melee damage stack. |
| Odium | Pairs with Disdain for up to a 500% critical melee damage increase. |
| Neutral Special | Supports the melee rotation. |
| Death Begets Death | Kill skill that restores Action Skill duration on critical or melee kills, extending Stealth uptime. |
| Flow State | Keeps mobility high between targets. |
The loop is straightforward. Build RAM with crits or status procs, activate Visual Paradox Nexus, kill something to enter Stealth and drop a Clone, then use the Kusarigama Function from Stealth for a guaranteed critical hit. Death Begets Death refunds duration on those kills, so a good chain can carry you through an entire encounter.
Note: Empowered melee consumes the whole RAM bar. If you are about to fire a heavy shot instead, hold the bar and take the gun damage bonus.

Sniper build: slow shots, big multipliers, refunded ammo
The other half of the tree rewards precision over speed. Respec out of the melee nodes and the same Action Skill turns into a stealth platform for sniper rifles.
| Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Methodical | Up to 100% bonus gun damage, scaling with a slower fire rate. |
| Infinite Murder Hack | Up to 50% chance to refund sniper rifle ammo to the magazine on critical hits. |
| Refactored Damage Formula | Additional sniper rifle damage. |
| accelerat.exe (capstone) | Creates an Acceleration Gate granting 250% gun damage and 50% projectile speed for three shots. |
Methodical is the reason to pick a slow, hard-hitting sniper rather than a rapid-fire one. Infinite Murder Hack then keeps the magazine topped up whenever those shots crit, so you reload far less often than the magazine size suggests. The accelerat.exe capstone is the burst window — fire your three boosted shots through the gate at whatever needs to die first.

Gear that matters at level 30
The Flashy Montage Maker class mod is the single biggest pickup for the sniper setup. It gives a 25% chance to enter Stealth on sniper kills and boosts damage by 50% while cloaked, which stacks on top of the Stealth you already generate through Visual Paradox Nexus. Pair it with a sniper rifle like the Hungry Seeking Abyss.

On the Specializations side, Now With Caffeine and Groundbreaker are the two worth grabbing while leveling. Groundbreaker in particular lines up with a character who is already committing to melee hits.
Do not spend time hunting for Loveless-specific class mods before you have the levels for them. Her class mods were not available ahead of the level cap moving to 70, and leveling gear gets outclassed quickly.
Which build to pick
| Factor | Melee | Sniper |
|---|---|---|
| Damage source | Empowered melee and Kusarigama slashes | Sniper rifle critical hits |
| Key multiplier | Up to 500% critical melee damage | 250% gun damage through accelerat.exe |
| Sustain | Death Begets Death refunds skill duration | Infinite Murder Hack refunds ammo |
| Survivability tool | Jacked In shield recovery, constant movement | Stealth from kills, plus the class mod’s cloak bonus |
| Range | Close | Long |
Respeccing between the two is cheap enough that trying both is reasonable. The skill point layouts diverge but the Action Skill stays the same, so the muscle memory for the Stealth and Clone rotation carries over either way.
How to tell the build is working
For the melee version, watch the RAM bar. If it fills reliably during a fight and your Action Skill timer keeps ticking back up after kills, Death Begets Death is doing its job and the chain is intact. If RAM keeps draining before you can spend it, you are not generating enough crits or status effects — swap to a weapon that applies an element.
For the sniper version, the tell is the magazine. Critical hits should be putting rounds back without a reload. If you are reloading after every burst, either Infinite Murder Hack is under-invested or you are missing crit spots. The accelerat.exe gate is visible when active, so fire your three shots inside it rather than wasting them on trash enemies.
Loveless arrived as part of Version 1.10 alongside Story Pack 2 and Bounty Pack 5, and that same update raised the level cap by ten. Her full skill list across all three trees is published on the official Loveless Vault Hunter page if you want to plan further ahead than level 30. Hack / Slash is only one third of what she can do — Virology leans into Contagion stacking and Manifestation turns the Wyrm into a directed pet — but the blue tree is the fastest route to a build that carries you through the story.
