How to Really Fish: How to Win Fast as a Beginner in Roblox

The full five-island boss route, the cash spots worth farming, and the gear that makes each fight quick.

The full five-island boss route, the cash spots worth farming, and the gear that makes each fight quick.

A run of How to Really Fish ends one way: you kill the Mutated Whale and leave on the military boat. Everything between the first clam and that escape is a chain of five islands, each gated behind a boss drop that a named fisherman wants. Learn the chain and a solo run stops being a grind and starts being a checklist.

Quick answer: Kill each island’s boss, hand its drop to that island’s fisherman to open the next boat trip, then catch the Whale, throw its carcass into the volcano, kill the Mutated Whale, and give the Mutated Whale Carcass to Fisherman Pat to board the military boat.

The full boss and unlock chain

Progression is strictly linear. No island opens early, and no fisherman accepts a drop out of order, so the fastest run is simply the one that wastes the least time between these seven fights.

Money rules that apply to the whole run

Cash buys lures, weapons and upgrades, and being short on money is what actually stalls most beginner runs. Three habits fix that.

HabitWhy it matters
Cook fish on the campfire before sellingA cooked fish is worth noticeably more at the Fishmonger than a raw one
Buy Inventory Slot upgradesLets you hold more fish per trip, so you sell in bigger batches
Farm Hammerhead Sharks on Volcano IslandThey sell for $3085 each with a Professional Lure, the best late-game income

Tip: the early tutorial prompts are also your fastest opening income. Find three clams, sell them to the Fishmonger, then keep selling catches until the party hits $20.

Islands 1 and 2: Giant Crab and Piranha King

Work through the opening prompts on the starting island. Collect three clams, sell them, then cast your line into open water, reel in an Emo Fish, cook it on the campfire and sell it for a better price.

Fish with Crab Bait to pull up the Giant Crab. Its attacks only go forward and they are slow, so circle it continuously while you hit it and you can take it down without losing health.

Take the Crab Claw to Fisherman Fin, get everyone to the boat, and sail to Island 2. The keys work, so the boat leaves as soon as the party is aboard.
Talk to Fisherman Joe and collect three leeches for him. Leeches that are far away are marked with white dots on your screen, so follow those rather than searching the shoreline manually. Handing them in gives you Leech Bait.
Before the fight, fish normally and sell enough to buy the Knife. Use the Leech Bait to pull the Piranha King, kill it, then cook and sell the leftover piranhas and put that money into a Pistol.
Give the Piranha Bone to Fisherman Joe and sail to Island 3.

Islands 3 and 4: Giant Pufferfish, Giant Tuna and the Albatross

Speak to Fisherman Alex, then buy the Standard Lure. You need it to reliably pull a Boxfish, which is what Alex asks for.
Hand the Boxfish over to receive Carrots. The Carrots are the summon item for the Giant Pufferfish, so don’t sell them.
Use the Carrots to bring out the Giant Pufferfish, kill it, and trade the Pufferfish Spike to open Island 4.
Single-use Uzis equipped in first person while crossing the tropical island
Single-use firepower is worth saving for a boss rather than spending on regular fish.
On Island 4, talk to Fisherman Phil, then buy the Professional Boss Lure and put spare cash into the Gun Damage Upgrade. The Albatross fight is much shorter with the damage boost.

Catch and kill the Giant Tuna with the Professional Boss Lure. Keep the Tuna it drops.
Place the Tuna carcass on the grass of the island to draw the Albatross down over Bird Island, then shoot it out of the sky. Take the Albatross Feather to Fisherman Phil and sail to Volcano Island.

Volcano Island: Lava Fish, the Whale and the Mutated Whale

Farm Hammerhead Sharks with the Professional Lure before touching any quest. At $3085 each, a short session here pays for every remaining upgrade.
Spend that money on the Scientific Lure and on weapon attachments. The Extended Mag and Compensator both matter for the last two fights, where you need sustained fire.
Catch five Lava Fish with the Scientific Lure and give them to Fisherman Pat. He hands back a Bucket of Fish.
Use the Bucket of Fish to catch the Whale and kill it. Then carry the Whale Carcass to the volcano and throw it in — that is what mutates it.
Fight the Mutated Whale by walking backward while shooting. Keeping distance and never standing still is what keeps a solo player alive through this one.
Give the Mutated Whale Carcass to Fisherman Pat and board the military boat to escape.

How to confirm the run counted as a win

Each boss confirms itself with an on-screen kill line naming the drop, such as “GIANT CRAB SLAIN! It dropped a Crab Claw!” or “MUTATED WHALE SLAIN! It dropped a Mutated Whale Carcass!” If you don’t see that line, the drop isn’t in your inventory and the fisherman won’t take it.

The run itself is only finished when the escape banner appears, reading “YOU ESCAPED” and confirming that everyone is going home with 500 Bubbles. Leaving before that message means the run did not register.

Achievements tied to a completed run

AchievementRequirement
Whale of a TaleDefeat the Mutated Whale
Homeward BoundEscape on the military boat
UntouchableComplete a full run without dying once
Angler EmeritusCatch 500 fish total

Untouchable is the one worth planning for, since it rewards the same cautious habits that make a solo run fast anyway — circling the Giant Crab, backing away from the Mutated Whale, and buying damage upgrades before a fight instead of during it.
