Summons in Legend of YMIR do not upgrade on their own. The only way up the grade ladder is duplicates, and a lot of them. Valkyries and Disir both feed the same system, and the top end of that system is where Legendary and Mythical cards like Hermod come from.

Quick answer: Open summon cards until you hold duplicates of the same grade, then open Combine under the Character tab, tap Auto Register to slot them, and press Combine. Low-grade combines push you up to Rare and Epic; Epic combines are the ones that can output a Legendary or Mythical summon, and they fail far more often than they succeed.

Summon grades and what combining actually consumes

Every Valkyrie, Disir, and companion card sits on the same rarity scale. Combining takes duplicates at one grade and returns a single card one step higher. Nothing carries over, so the cards you feed in are gone.

GradeColourRole in combining
CommonGrayBulk fuel; cleared out early to start the task counters
UncommonGreenBulk fuel; counts toward the UC progress on the combining tasks
RareBlueCombines into Epic at a reasonable rate

At the Epic tier, a combine takes four duplicate Epic cards. A failure does not hand back your materials in the same shape. It usually returns another Epic, often one you already own, such as an extra Baldur on the Valkyrie side or a Glasir on the Disir side.

Building a duplicate stockpile first

Combining is a volume game. Clearing both combining tasks and pushing into Epic territory realistically means running through the four-figure range of summons, so pull everything into your card pool before you touch the Combine menu.

  • Normal Summon tabs — the Valkyrie and Disir tabs both take their own tickets, and 11x pulls are the fastest way through them. Milestone rewards sit on the Normal Summon track and unlock at set pull counts.
  • Inventory cards — Mani’s Valkyrie x11 Card(Bound), Mani’s Disir Card(Bound), Azure Patra Card, Noble Disir Card(Bound), Golden Sentinel’s Valkyrie Cards, plus Guaranteed [E] Valkyrie and Guaranteed [R] Disir cards open straight from the bag.
  • Crafting — Craft > Event > Garnet has a Noble [E] Valkyrie Card (Bound) recipe at a 10 percent success rate. Cheap to attempt, and a hit is a guaranteed Epic body for your next combine.
  • Auto-summon — when you are sitting on hundreds of tickets, the auto option burns through them without you tapping each reveal.

On the reveal screen, skipping the animation is fine, and View All [Y] shows every card from the batch at once so you can check what landed without waiting out the flourish.

How to combine summons in the Combine menu

Open your inventory and use every summon ticket and card you are holding. Base summons have to exist in your pool before the Combine screen will register them.
Go to the Character tab and open Combine. Switch to the Valkyrie or Disir side depending on which pool you are working through, since the two do not mix.
Press Auto Register. The game fills the slots with duplicates of the same grade for you, which saves a lot of scrolling when you are clearing hundreds of Common and Uncommon cards.

Hit Combine. The registered cards are consumed and you get a single card one grade up, or a same-grade result if the attempt fails.
Confirm the result. If you would rather not keep what came out, the replace option costs diamonds, so decide before you spend whether the reroll is worth it.

Note: work bottom-up in one pass. Clear Commons and Uncommons into Rares, then Rares into Epics, and only then start attempting the Epic tier. Skipping ahead just leaves you short of the four Epics an attempt needs.

Epic combines and the road to Legendary and Mythical

Rare-to-Epic combines fail often enough to be annoying but land regularly. The Epic tier is a different story. Four Epic duplicates buy you one attempt, and the usual outcome is another Epic card rather than a Legendary. Strings of failures in a row are normal, not a sign something is broken.

When it does land, the animation changes noticeably before the card appears. Hermod has come out of Epic Valkyrie combines at both Legendary and Mythical grade, which is the highest result the system produces.

Because the odds are what they are, diamonds spent on the Collection book give more reliable stats than diamonds spent chasing a single Legendary pull. Combine with the duplicates you have accumulated, not with your premium currency.

Clearing the Valkyrie Combining Task and Disir Combining Task

Both tasks live on the Event screen under the Task tab. They track how many combines you have completed at each grade, with separate counters for the UC and R steps, and pay out as you hit each threshold.

This is the reason not to hoard low-grade cards. Every Common and Uncommon combine you run moves a counter, so the bulk clearing you would do anyway also finishes the event. Claim rewards from the task menu as the tiers fill rather than at the end, then move to the other pool and repeat the process.

How to check a new summon registered

A card you obtained is not doing anything for you until it is confirmed. Open the Valkyrie or Disir management interface, use the Manage tab, and confirm the new summon, the same flow you use for names like Ratatoskr or Beotter.

Three things tell you it worked. The summon appears in the management list at its new grade, any Collection and Story Deck registrations tied to it complete, and the card effect on the Story Deck side starts rolling its random stat line. Story Deck completion also feeds area buff effects, which scale off the lowest rarity stat in the book, so a fresh higher-grade card can lift a deck’s level.

Before you swap a summon in, compare its stats against what you are already running, such as Eostre of Spring on the Valkyrie side. A higher grade is not automatically the better fit for your build.

Why a combine will not go through

  • You do not have enough duplicates at that grade. Auto Register cannot fill slots from cards you do not own, and the Epic tier needs four.
  • The cards are still sitting in your bag. Unopened tickets and cards are not summons yet, so open them first.
  • You are mixing pools. Valkyries combine with Valkyries and Disir with Disir.
  • You did not confirm the result. An unconfirmed card is not added to your roster, and the replace option needs diamonds.
  • A connection drop mid-session. If the client throws a reconnect prompt, check your card count after logging back in before you spend anything else.

The practical rhythm is simple. Bank cards over days rather than combining as you pull, then sit down and clear the whole ladder in one session so the task counters fill while you work. Epic attempts stay a lottery no matter how efficient you are, but the Rare and Epic cards you build along the way are guaranteed, and those are what carry the combat power.
