Dire is the sixth and final difficulty of Stygian Onslaught, and the Version 7.0 rotation, Battle of the Starburst, throws three level 110 bosses at you in a row. You get one shot at each battlefield with a fresh four-character team, no repeats allowed, and no help from anyone else.
Quick answer: Build three separate teams with zero overlapping characters and run the challenge in single-player. A high-investment 7.0 clear looks like this — Nicole, Citlali, Yelan, and Hu Tao take the Chimeric Winged Lion in 69s; Chevreuse, Durin, Fischl, and Lisa take the Veteran Wind Operative in 113s; Odette, Escoffier, Prune, and Varka take Knuckle Duckle in 90s, for a total of 272s.
Dire difficulty rules in Version 7.0
Dire strips away every crutch the lower difficulties give you. Exalted Ones boons do not apply, co-op is disabled entirely, and rewards only count if you clear it solo. You also need a single-player Fearless clear before Dire unlocks at all.
| Condition | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Clear Fearless (Difficulty 5) in single-player first |
| Party rule | No repeat characters across the three battlefields |
| Co-op | Unavailable; rewards are single-player only |
| Exalted Ones | Boons are inactive on Dire |
| Per-battle timer | 120 seconds per battlefield |
| Perilous objective | Finish all three battlefields within 180 seconds total |
That 180-second objective is the gate on the Sublimation weapon skins, and it is separate from simply beating the challenge. It works out to an average of 60 seconds per boss, which is why even successful Dire runs frequently land well over the line.

Add to Google Preferences →The three Starburst bosses and what breaks them
Each battlefield has its own gimmick, and ignoring it costs far more time than a weaker damage ceiling does. Two of the three bosses have defensive states you can strip with the right element.
| Boss | Key mechanic and counter |
|---|---|
| Chimeric Winged Lion (Power Overwhelming) | Carries an innate Electro shield. Stellar Glimmer DMG interrupts its attacks, and a Stellar-Conduct team makes the most of that opening. |
| Veteran Wind Operative (Treacherous Blade) | Its mechanics bend around Bond of Life. Characters built to hold Bond of Life, like Arlecchino or Clorinde, sidestep the fight’s pressure. |
| Knuckle Duckle (Armored Arsenal) | Summons Stamping Devices and generates a shield. Electro-Charged or Lunar-Charged turns those devices against the boss and breaks the shield. |
Hu Tao, Lisa, and Varka: A 272-second high-investment clear
The Chimeric Winged Lion is the fastest of the three when a Pyro hypercarry gets a clean window. Nicole, Citlali, Yelan, and Hu Tao close it out in 69 seconds, which is the only battlefield in this run that beats the 60-second-average pace by a comfortable margin.
The Veteran Wind Operative is the bottleneck. A Chevreuse, Durin, Fischl, and Lisa lineup leans on Overloaded pressure and takes 113 seconds, uncomfortably close to the 120-second per-battle limit. If you are chasing the Perilous objective, this is the fight to re-tune first.

Knuckle Duckle closes the run at 90 seconds with Odette, Escoffier, Prune, and Varka. Because the shield phase eats real time, the clock here reflects device cleanup as much as raw damage.

| Battlefield | Team | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Chimeric Winged Lion | Nicole, Citlali, Yelan, Hu Tao | 69s |
| Veteran Wind Operative | Chevreuse, Durin, Fischl, Lisa | 113s |
| Knuckle Duckle | Odette, Escoffier, Prune, Varka | 90s |
| Total | — | 272s |
Note: 272 seconds clears Dire, but it does not satisfy the 180-second Perilous objective. Treat the clear and the skin objective as two different targets.
A C0R1 Dire clear for comparison
Dire is clearable without heavy constellations, just slower. A C0R1 run using Sandrone, Odette, Alyosha, and Sucrose handles the Chimeric Winged Lion in 117s, Mavuika, Iansan, Ororon, and Chevreuse take the Veteran Wind Operative in 107s, and Flins, Ineffa, Columbina, and Xilonen close Knuckle Duckle with Lunar-Charged and Lunar-Crystallize damage. The total lands at 339s.
The useful takeaway is where the time goes. Constellation investment mostly compresses the first battlefield, while the shield and device phases on the other two set a floor that raw damage cannot fully remove.
Test your rotation on a level 110 Ruin Guard first
Before you spend an attempt on Dire, verify that each team’s full rotation actually lands within its budget. A level 110 Ruin Guard is a clean benchmark because it has no shield phases or element gates to hide rotation mistakes.

Weapons and artifact sets across the twelve characters
Filling three non-overlapping teams means twelve fully geared characters, which is the real barrier on Dire. The gear pool behind the 272-second clear spans weapons and sets from several regions rather than a single meta package.
| Category | Equipment used |
|---|---|
| Weapons | Angelos’ Heptades, Starcaller’s Watch, Elegy for the End, Staff of Homa, Favonius Lance, Athame Artis, Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, Primordial Jade Cutter, Symphonist of Scents, Favonius Codex, Gest of the Mighty Wolf |
| Artifact sets | Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City, Emblem of Severed Fate, Wanderer’s Troupe, Crimson Witch of Flames, Song of Days Past, Tenacity of the Millelith, Heart of the Furnace, Viridescent Venerer, Day Carved from Rising Wind |
Cycle dates, rewards, and how to confirm the clear
The Version 7.0 cycle of Stygian Onslaught runs from August 19, 2026 to September 22, 2026, with the following cycle starting September 30, 2026 and ending November 3, 2026. The domain sits north of Mingyun Village in Liyue, right next to a Teleport Waypoint, and you need Archon Quest Prologue Act 3 plus Adventure Rank 20 to access it.
Artifact rewards only flow during the Disturbance Outbreak state, which covers the first 10 days of a cycle and triggers when you spend Resin after clearing any stage at Difficulty 3 or higher. Once it ends, the challenge stays playable but those extra artifact drops stop. The Dire Commendation window for this cycle closed on August 29, 2026 at server reset.
You know the run landed when the Challenge Completed screen appears after the third boss dies, listing each battlefield’s name and time alongside the total elapsed figure. If the total reads above 180 seconds, the clear is registered but the Sublimation weapon skin objective is not.
The practical route to a faster time is rarely more damage on the first boss. Shaving the Veteran Wind Operative fight, which sat at 113 seconds here, and cutting the Knuckle Duckle shield phase short with quicker device manipulation is where the biggest chunks of the clock still sit.
