Skyrim: How to Unlock the Kallax Storageborn Companion

Kallax Storageborn turns IKEA’s familiar flat-pack shelf into a fully voiced companion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, complete with a new questline, custom loot, and a portable storage system that makes over-encumbrance a thing of the past. The shelf is voiced by Matt Berry, built by Kinggath Creations, and it hands you effectively unlimited inventory space once you finish assembling it.

Quick answer: Install the free Kallax Storageborn Creation, then ask an innkeeper for work or become over-encumbered to summon the Assistant. Either path unlocks Storereach, where you assemble Kallax using the Staff of Assembly and a Mysterious Soul Stone.

Install the Kallax Storageborn Creation

Download the Creation from Bethesda’s system. You can grab it from the official listing or find it in the in-game Creations menu.

Get Kallax Storageborn on Bethesda Creations

From Skyrim’s main menu, open the Creations menu, browse your active mods, or search for Kallax Storageborn, then activate it.

Save your game before installing any new Creation so you can roll back if something conflicts with your existing load order.

Trigger the quest to find Storereach

Once the Creation is active, there are two reliable ways to start the questline. Both point you toward a hidden workshop south of Falkreath and reveal a new map marker for Storereach.

Ask an innkeeper for work

Visit any inn and speak to the tavernkeep. A new line appears alongside the usual rumor prompt: “I’m in need of some work. Do you have anything for me?” The keeper hands you a Promotional Flyer. Open your inventory and read it, then leave the tavern and talk to the mysterious Assistant who appears outside.

Become over-encumbered

The Assistant also shows up when you are carrying too much and pass through any transition, such as a door, gate, cave, or zone change. Talk to the Assistant to begin the search for Storereach. If you want to force this, a deliberately heavy branded crate in Riverwood is designed to push you past your carry limit.

Clear Storereach and grab the Staff of Assembly

Storereach looks like a Dwemer ruin crossed with a furniture showroom, packed with shelves, displays, and an unhealthy number of Skeevers.

Fight through the entry area and collect the loot next to the fireplace. Picking it up reveals a hidden set of stairs leading down to an elevator.

Pull the lever to ride the elevator platform up to the second level, which opens into a replica IKEA store built inside Skyrim.

Follow the shelves toward the workshop area, clearing more Skeevers as you go. Interact with the oddly named spheres along the way for extra dialogue if you want it.

Keep following the shelf maze until you reach a door. Open it to collect the KALLAX Assembly Manual, the Mysterious Soul Stone, and the Staff of Assembly.

Assemble Kallax

Travel to the three marked locations. At each one, equip the Staff of Assembly and shoot the mechanism to activate a small Dwemer spider helper.

Follow each spider to one of the three missing Kallax parts, such as the shelf dividers, side panels, and wooden dowels.

Place all three parts to assemble the shelf, then interact with it to insert the Mysterious Soul Stone as its power source.

Finish the build by shooting the completed shelf with the Staff of Assembly.

You’ll know it worked when KALLAX comes to life, speaks to you, and swears to carry your burdens. From there it behaves like any companion. Talk to it to deposit your gear, and it will not become overburdened no matter how much you stash.

Find the Hexfang dagger on your way out

Before you leave, you can grab the secret weapon Hexfang, a dagger that is styled as an Allen key and deals heavy sneak damage to constructs. It sits near the spot where you found the manual and the Staff of Assembly. Look to the right side of the desk and pull the lever to open a small room holding some Dwemer loot and the dagger on a table.

What Kallax does once it’s active

Kallax uses Skyrim’s pet system, so it does not take up your standard follower slot and it won’t attack enemies. Asking for help in combat grants a carry-weight bonus instead. You can summon it at any time, whether or not it’s your active companion, using the new three-word Dragon Shout “AYE KEY YAH.”

It carries weapons, armor, ingredients, books, dragon bones, ingots, soul gems, and more, and it can display some stored items on its shelves as you travel. Later upgrades let it tidy player homes by returning displaced objects, collect nearby unowned loot automatically, and expand its storage. Continue the memory and heirloom quests, which lead to locations like Shadow Green Cavern near Solitude and end in a clutter-themed boss fight, to raise Kallax to its final capacity and unlock its full clutter-management abilities.
