Stillblade’s Stone is one of the more useful Combat Tarstones in Mortal Shell 2 if you fight with a melee weapon and like breaking enemies open before you commit to a big swing. It bolts a unique Light Combo Finisher onto your Primary Weapon, and that finisher deals Break Damage instead of raw health damage. The catch is where it lives: a short beacon dungeon that plenty of players clear and then leave without the reward.
Quick answer: Cleanse the Citadel Annex beacon in the Faded Citadel, ride the giant creature, kill the boss on the far platform, and open the chest on the stone altar before you touch the corrupted core.
Where to find Stillblade’s Stone in Mortal Shell 2
The stone sits inside the Citadel Annex beacon in the Faded Citadel. Getting there means running the Ashen Sanctum stretch that branches off the Gate of Infinity beacon.

Add to Google Preferences →Hushed Sanctum run and the chest you cannot skip
The Hushed Sanctum is linear and short. It is also where most people lose the stone, because sprinting to the corrupted core and cleansing it ends the run and sends you out without opening the chest.
Open the chest before you interact with the corrupted core. Cleansing the core first and leaving forfeits the stone, and you have to run the whole beacon again for another shot at it.
Stillblade’s Stone effects and Break Damage by level
Slot it into a Primary Weapon and your light attack string gains an extra finisher. That finisher’s whole job is Break Damage, which builds toward forcing an enemy into a vulnerable state you can punish with a Riposte. The Break value climbs as the stone levels.
| Level | Light finisher Break Damage |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | 10 |
| Level 2 | 15 |
| Level 3 | 25 |
Older listings tier those numbers differently across more levels, so ignore any 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 ladder you still see floating around. The 10 / 15 / 25 scaling above is the current one to plan a build around.

One restriction matters for build planning. Zealot’s Stone grants its own Light Combo Finisher, the one that generates Resolve rather than Break Damage, and the game marks it as Tarstone Incompatible while Stillblade’s Stone is filling that role. You get one finisher, so pick based on whether you want stagger pressure or Resolve.
Weapons that can equip Stillblade’s Stone
This is a Combat Tarstone, so it goes on a melee Primary Weapon and does nothing for a sidearm. Only these weapons accept it:
- Black Needle
- Clockwork Scythe
- Great Martyr’s Blade
- Obsidian Hammer
- The Iconoclast
- Veteran’s Battle Axe
How to upgrade Stillblade’s Stone at the Tarforge
Tarstones do not level passively. Each one earns experience only while it is equipped and you are killing things, and it stays at Level 1 until that bar fills and you pay for the upgrade.
Before any of that works, the Tarforge in Marrow Keep needs its upgrade options opened up. That means handing Franz the Etching Needle, a quest item found in a bone chest just before the Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods fight. When you spot Ruk past the bridge, drop down the opening and turn right before the tunnel to reach the small side area holding the chest.
After that, equip Stillblade’s Stone, grind out the XP bar as you explore, and return to Franz to buy the next level with Coin. You can check the progress at any point from the Tarstones menu, which shows each stone’s current level and XP total.

None of this is needed for the Stoned trophy and achievement, which only asks you to obtain Tarstones rather than level them. Looting Stillblade’s Stone from the Citadel Annex chest already counts toward that total, so you can grab it now and worry about the Break Damage numbers later.
