The autumn-themed drop adds the Dappled Forest, abandoned camps, cushions, straw beds, and new stairs and slabs on Java and Bedrock.

The Wilderness Bound game drop is live, arriving as Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.50. It is built around exploration, dropping a new autumn forest biome, camps stuffed with loot, a fresh wood type, and a batch of long-requested building and comfort blocks. The theme was revealed during the MC Championship: Fall Stars event on September 5, 2026, after being teased earlier at Minecraft Live.

Quick answer: Wilderness Bound is out now on Java (26.3) and Bedrock (26.50). It adds the Dappled Forest biome, poplar trees, shelf mushrooms, red shrubs, abandoned camps, new explorer maps, wool and concrete stairs and slabs, cushions, and straw beds.

Dappled Forest biome, poplar trees, and new plants

The headline addition is the Dappled Forest, a cold-region biome with a permanent fall look. It generates near colder biomes and mixes poplar trees, patches of coarse dirt, red shrubs, leaf litter, brown mushrooms, shelf mushrooms, and a few sparse spruce trees. Fallen poplar trees show up more often here than fallen trees do elsewhere. Rabbits, foxes, and the cold variants of farm animals spawn in it.

Poplar trees and the poplar wood set

Poplar trees come with red, orange, or yellow leaves, and the color is decided at random when the world generates. There is a single poplar sapling, so any one you plant can grow into any of the three colors. Each leaf color produces matching falling-leaf particles, appearing about as often as pale oak or cherry leaves. The planks share a warm grey tone similar to pale oak wood.

Poplar brings a full wood family, including these blocks and items:

  • Poplar log, stripped log, wood, and stripped wood
  • Poplar planks, stairs, slab, and shelf
  • Poplar door, trapdoor, fence, and fence gate
  • Poplar button, pressure plate, sign, and hanging sign
  • Poplar boat and poplar boat with chest

Shelf mushrooms

Shelf mushrooms do not grow on the ground. They attach to the sides of standing poplar trees and fallen poplar logs, and can only be placed on full block faces. They come in small and large sizes. Using bone meal on a small one grows it into the large version, and breaking a large shelf mushroom drops two mushrooms. They work in mushroom stew, suspicious stew, and rabbit stew like the usual red and brown mushrooms, and they are bouncy when something lands on them.

Red shrubs

Red shrubs grow in small patches across the Dappled Forest. Unlike most plants that shift color to match the biome around them, red shrubs stay red no matter where you place them. Drop them into a composter to build up bone meal.

Abandoned camps and the new explorer maps

Abandoned camps are the new surface structure, telling the story of travelers who came before. They generate across many biomes and blend into their surroundings, so the exact build changes based on where you find one. A camp may include a stone shelter, a pond, a crop farm, a tree, or overgrown leaves and cobwebs. The tent is made mainly of white wool stairs, straw beds, and biome-dependent fences.

They generate in the Meadow, Cherry Grove, Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Windswept Forest, Dappled Forest, Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Swamp, Savanna, Wooded Badlands, and Pale Garden.

Loot sits in chests, barrels, and a hidden oxidized copper chest. Expect early-game supplies like copper weapons, compasses, gunpowder, and explorer maps. The camp’s common chests can hold abandoned camp maps that point toward eight biomes: Bamboo Jungle, Cherry Grove, Birch Forest, Dappled Forest, Flower Forest, Pale Garden, Swamp, and Windswept Forest.

The secret chest can hold four new structure maps that lead to a buried ancient city, a buried mineshaft, a desert pyramid, and warm ocean ruins. Alongside these, the improved explorer maps also help point the way to major finds like Woodland Mansions and Ocean Monuments.

New building blocks: wool and concrete stairs and slabs

Two long-requested block families arrive together. Wool stairs and slabs come in all 16 wool colors and keep the vibration-damping property of regular wool, which is useful around the Warden. Concrete stairs and slabs also cover all 16 concrete colors and give builders a fire-resistant option with the same shapes. You can craft either family on a crafting table, or cut concrete on a stonecutter for less waste.

Cushions and straw beds

Cushions finally let you sit down in Minecraft. They come in all 16 wool colors and are crafted from 3 wool slabs of the matching color. A cushion is a block-like entity rather than a full block, so it sits neatly on top of nearly any flat surface and overlaps with other decorations to build sofas and chairs. Cushions stack to 16, and they break if a piston moves them or their supporting block is removed. They also generate inside abandoned camps.

Straw beds let you skip a single night without resetting your spawn point, which suits long mining and exploration trips. Crafting 3 hay bales yields 4 straw beds, and they stack to 16. Each one is single-use and breaks after you sleep. Villagers cannot use them, and placing one in the Nether or the End causes it to explode like a normal bed. They also spawn in abandoned camps.

How to get the Wilderness Bound update

Wilderness Bound is available now on both PC and console. Java players receive it as version 26.3, while Bedrock players get it as version 26.50. Update through the Minecraft Launcher or let your platform’s store apply the update, then create or load a world to check the version number in the pause menu or the launcher build name.

You will know the update landed once you can craft cushions and straw beds, place wool and concrete stairs and slabs, and start finding Dappled Forests and abandoned camps as you explore. Older worlds gain the new biome and structures in freshly generated chunks, so head out past your existing map borders to reach the poplar-filled forests.
