The Blood of Dawnwalker: Free Silk Threads Location (Cave Near Vedera Marsh)

Silk Threads are one of the four components the Uriash blacksmith asks for during A Bulwark Against Darkness in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and they are the one component you can walk away with for nothing. A merchant will happily sell you a bundle for thousands of denarii, but there is a cave in the marshes that hands one over for free — as long as your save is in the right quest state.

Quick answer: The free bundle sits inside a cave north of the Vedera Marsh Guardpost and south of Svetlograd. The cave is flooded and sealed unless you are actively on the Sanzhana quest line.

Silk Threads access requirement: the Tsarina’s Sanzhani quest line

The cave is not an open piece of world you can raid early. In earlier saves the interior is flooded, and the drop-in point will not let Coen through. It opens up while you are working through the Sanzhana quest line, with the Come Hither objective — “Talk with the sanzhana” — sitting in your tracker.

A Bulwark Against Darkness must already be active, so you know which components you are collecting.
You need to be progressing the Sanzhana quest line, not simply near the marsh.
If the cave interior is underwater, the quest state is wrong, not the location.

Free Silk Threads location on the map

Open the map and find the Vedera Marsh Guardpost. The cave entrance is a short run north of it, with Svetlograd further up to the north. There is no icon marking the opening, so the guardpost is your anchor — it is a fast travel point, which makes it the cleanest place to start the run.

How to reach the cave and pick up the Silk Threads

Fast travel to the Vedera Marsh Guardpost and head north on foot. Keep Svetlograd behind the horizon ahead of you rather than cutting off into the open marsh.

Follow the dirt path lined with red mushrooms and bare, dead trees. That path leads straight past the entrance, so there is no need to leave it.

Watch the side of the trail for a rocky crevice in the ground. It reads as a gap in the rock rather than a doorway, which is why it is easy to run past.

Drop down into the opening. The descent puts you on the cave floor in a dark, torch-lit passage.

Move to the wall torch and look at the ground beside it. The prompt reads Pick Up Silk Threads, and taking it adds Silk Threads (1) to your inventory.

Climb back out over the rocky ledges to return to the trail. An NPC blocks part of the squeeze on the way up and grumbles as you pass, which is harmless.

How to confirm the Silk Threads pickup worked

Two things fire the moment you take the bundle. A QUEST UPDATED banner appears for A Bulwark Against Darkness, and Coen says out loud that this should be the last of the ingredients needed for the armour. That line only triggers if the other three components are already in hand.

The tracker then swaps to the objective “Return to the urush blacksmith”. If your journal still lists Silk Threads as an outstanding component after the pickup, the item did not register and the ground prompt is worth checking again.

Free cave pickup vs buying Silk Threads from the Sanzhana merchant

The merchant route is reliable but expensive. Her stock only opens to Coen after the Pearly and Precious quest is finished, which involves tracking her down with Focus Mode, following the trail west to a bandit camp, killing the bandits for the White Tooth and bringing it back to her. Only then does the Bundle of Silk Threads appear for sale.

If you are already running the Sanzhana quest line, clear the cave first. Buying the bundle afterwards adds nothing beyond a spare, and the denarii are better spent elsewhere.

With the threads secured, the Moult of a Large Lizard, the Relic of a Saint and the Flask of Quicksilver round out the set, and the Uriash blacksmith in the northwest takes all four before the binding ritual turns the Arbiter’s Suit of Armour into its Legendary form.
