Aniimo is a creature-catching open-world RPG set on the continent of Idyll, and you do not have to explore it alone. It runs as a hybrid game where the whole adventure is playable solo, but you can also pull in friends to catch Aniimo, take on bosses, and clear puzzles together.
Quick answer: Yes. Aniimo supports online co-op for up to four players, online PvP through Egg Heist, and cross-platform play. Single-player is fully supported too, so multiplayer is optional.
What multiplayer includes in Aniimo
The Steam listing for Aniimo spells out the supported modes: single-player, online co-op, online PvP, and cross-platform multiplayer. The game is built for shared play, but nothing forces you into it.
| Mode | Players | Type |
|---|---|---|
| World co-op | Up to 4 | Cooperative exploration |
| Egg Heist | 3 per team | PvPvE competition |
| Social hubs | Many | Trade, duel, shop, hatch eggs |
| Single-player | 1 | Full campaign |
Co-op runs on invitation. You will not bump into random players while roaming Idyll, so if you want company you have to invite them into your world first. A voice chat feature is built in to help you coordinate during fights and puzzles.

Add to Google Preferences →How co-op works: host worlds and shared progress
Co-op is a hosted-world setup rather than a persistent shared server. Someone hosts, everyone else joins that host’s world, and the party explores together. The important catch is where progress lands.
Only the host’s world saves progress. Completed quests, activated waypoints, built structures, and other world changes stick to the host. Guests can fight, catch, and collect for their own rosters, but the shared world state does not carry back to their save.
| Activity | Shared in co-op? |
|---|---|
| Wild catches | Yes, each player catches for their own roster |
| Boss and Alpha fights | Yes, both can contribute and attempt the catch |
| Chests and gathering | Guests can receive loot near the host |
| Main story quests | No, story progress is host-only |
| Waypoints and world changes | No, saved on the host only |
Main story quests are single-player only. You cannot clear the campaign as a group, so treat co-op as a layer for catching, bosses, and puzzles rather than a way to co-complete the story.
Have the least-progressed player host. That way any quest steps completed during the session actually count for the person who still needs them, instead of being repeated later.
How to invite friends to your world
You know it worked when the invited player loads into your world and appears alongside you. If you do not have anyone to play with, use the global chat to find players, or walk up to others at an Outpost and add them to your friend list. Everyone should have a stable connection so the session does not drop.
Egg Heist: the three-player PvPvE mode
Egg Heist is Aniimo’s dedicated competitive mode. You join a three-player team and head to the Lost Isles for real-time searches and battles, hunting rare eggs while fighting both wild creatures and rival Pathfinders. Because you are racing other teams, other players are a direct obstacle here rather than backup.
This is late-game content. You need to reach the Veteran Pathfinder rank before the mode opens up, so it is not something you can jump into on day one.
Aniimo you can only get through co-op or trading
Some creatures cannot be caught in your own world at all. Fulmintis and Dazmand are only capturable inside another player’s world, which makes co-op the practical route to adding them to your roster. If you would rather not host or join a session for them, they can also come through trading with a friend.
Fulmintis is an Electric-type DPS from the Season 1 Keepsakes region, evolved from Wisptis. It is the kind of Aniimo that rewards keeping an active friend network, since both catching it in a shared world and swapping for it depend on playing with others.

Social hubs, trading, and duels
Outside your own world, Aniimo has shared public spaces where players gather. Astra city, Outposts, campfires, and RV parks all let you see other Pathfinders, duel them, buy from shops, and hatch eggs together.
Trading starts from the friend relationship rather than an anonymous market. You can swap Aniimo with friends, and duels are the way to settle who has the stronger team. If you want to test a roster or just measure up against someone, a duel is the friendly outlet, while Egg Heist is where competition is built into the objective.
Crossplay and platforms
Cross-platform multiplayer is confirmed, so friends on different devices can still play together. Aniimo is live on PC, Xbox, and PS5, with the mobile version arriving September 23, 2026. That means you can host from a console and have a friend join from PC, or vice versa, as long as the mode supports it.
Between the two launch waves, the exact timing of crossplay has not been detailed, so the safest assumption is shared play within each wave first. For most players, the practical takeaway holds steady: invite a friend, host the world for whoever needs the progress, and use the session for catches, bosses, and the Aniimo you cannot reach alone.
