Everything the returning two-handed mace does against Elites, where it drops, and which classes get the most from it.

The Furnace is a returning two-handed mace in Diablo 4, brought back as a legacy Unique in the Season 15 update, Season of Hell’s Legacy. It first appeared in Diablo 3, where it became a go-to weapon for wiping out elite packs, and it keeps that identity here: raw, unconditional bonus damage against Elite enemies.

Quick answer: The Furnace makes you deal 150–200% more damage to Elites (up to 260% on the Mythic version), with no activation condition. It is a random world drop equippable by Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, and Warlock.

The Furnace unique effect and affixes

The weapon’s power line reads: You deal (150 – 200)% more damage to Elites. That multiplier applies automatically while the mace is equipped, with no cooldown, resource cost, or setup step. On the Mythic variant, the bonus can climb as high as 260%, which puts it among the hardest-hitting weapons for elite-heavy content.

The guaranteed affix is a fire-damage proc, and the roll pool covers survivability stats you would expect on a heavy weapon:

  • Lucky Hit: Up to 40% chance to deal +[1,800 – 4,800] Fire damage
  • Life on Kill
  • Maximum Life

Because there is no trigger to manage, the value scales with how many Elites you face. That makes it strongest in higher Torment difficulties, where elite density climbs and the flat multiplier does the most work.

With the 3.2.1 patch, The Furnace can be converted into a Unique Charm, giving you a way to carry its power without occupying the weapon slot.

How to get The Furnace

The Furnace is a random world drop and sits in the general Unique loot pool, so it is not locked to a single lair boss. That means there is no true target-farm for it, but there are still reliable ways to raise your odds.

The most efficient route is running high-loot activities such as Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons, which throw out large volumes of random Uniques. As a Season 15 legacy Unique, it also comes from the Prime Evil Echoes tied to the Waking Nightmare seasonal mechanic, including the Echo of Diablo encounter.

Crafting it with the Horadric Cube

You can also gamble for it directly. Take a Common (white) Two-Handed Mace to the Horadric Cube and use the “Upgrade to Unique” recipe with 1x Enhanced Primordial Dust and 10x Raw Primordial Dust. This turns the base mace into a random Unique of that type, which can land on The Furnace.

You will know it worked when the mace appears in your inventory with the “You deal (150 – 200)% more damage to Elites” power line and the Fire damage Lucky Hit affix.

Best builds for The Furnace

Only Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, and Warlock can wield a two-handed mace, so those are your options. The clearest fit is the Whirlwind Barbarian, which already clears trash without effort. Add The Furnace and the plan becomes shout for buffs, then spin into elite packs while the multiplier melts them.

The Hammerdin Paladin is the other strong candidate, pairing the mace’s elite damage with spiraling blessed hammers and sturdy auras. Any two-handed build that regularly fights Elites benefits, since the bonus is always active and asks nothing in return, which is what makes The Furnace a worthwhile chase item this season.
