Aniimo: How to Get Melloblum in Rosetower Woods

The Flowers and Thorns side quest is the only thing standing between you and the No. 035 Grass support.

Melloblum is one of the few Aniimo you cannot simply stumble across. It has a single spawn point in the entire world, and that spawn point stays empty until you have done a specific favor for a princess in Rosetower Woods. Miss the quest and the Budsquire Maze will look completely deserted no matter how many times you sweep it.

Quick answer: Progress the side quest Flowers and Thorns – Rosetower Wood, then head to the southeast end of the Budsquire Maze in Rosetower Woods and catch the level 43–50 Melloblum that spawns there.

Melloblum spawn requirements in Rosetower Woods

Melloblum is Aniidex No. 035, a Nova stage Grass Aniimo with the Support role. Its entry lists exactly one placed spawn in the world, so there is no alternate route through farming other zones.

  • Region: Rosetower Woods, the only area it appears in
  • Encounter level: 43–50
  • Spawn points: 1, at the southeast end of the Budsquire Maze
  • Clue shown in-game: [Deep in the Thorns]
  • Spawn rule: Progressing [Flowers and Thorns – Rosetower Wood] causes it to respawn.

You can confirm all of this yourself by opening Melloblum’s details page in the Aniilog, which spells out the location, the clue, and the quest requirement before you ever set foot in the maze.

How to start Flowers and Thorns – Rosetower Wood

The quest begins near the tower in Rosetower Woods, but the guard blocking the path will not talk to a plain Pathfinder. You need to arrive twined with the right Aniimo first.

Catch a Towerwood Budsquire in Rosetower Woods and twine with it. Twining is what gets you an audience at the tea party, so do this before you walk up to the archways.
Follow the stone archways until you reach First Lethal Thorn, the Thornblade guarding the way to the princess. Speak to it and it will tell you to leave the tea party.

Challenge First Lethal Thorn to a duel and beat it. Afterwards you can identify yourself as a Pathfinder, which triggers the cutscene that introduces Melloblum.

Walk into the garden, approach Melloblum and pick the Twine with Thornblade option. That accepts Flowers and Thorns – Rosetower Wood, which you can then track from the quest log under The Legend of Flowers and Thorns.

Return to Melloblum to report your findings and let the story cutscene play out. Once the quest has moved forward, the maze spawn becomes active.

Where to find and catch Melloblum in the Budsquire Maze

Open the map and zoom in on the far southern edge of Rosetower Woods. The stone maze is marked there, and it is the only place Melloblum appears.
Glide down into the ruins on a mount rather than walking the corridors. Dropping straight into the interior saves you from backtracking through the thorny dead ends.

Head for the southeast chamber and look for Melloblum wandering near the flower-covered walls. It is the same chamber where you first met her during the quest.
Throw an Aniipod. Melloblum has a base catch rate of 28 percent at full HP with a standard Aniipod, so damaging it, breaking it, or throwing from behind all improve your odds before you commit your better pods.

These figures assume a target at full health, so real throws land better once you have chipped it down or broken it. The Sparkling variant rolls at roughly 1 in 20,000 encounters, the same rate every species uses.

A failed throw is not a lost run. Melloblum keeps respawning in that same chamber after the quest requirement is met, so you can come back and try again as often as you need.

How to confirm the catch worked

A successful throw brings up Melloblum’s profile card on screen. The card reads No.035, Basic Form, Nova Stage, Support, with the flavor line “Where fragrance falls, conflict subsides.” If that card appears, the Aniimo is registered and in your roster. Your Rosetower Woods completion percentage ticks up as well.

Getting Melloblum by evolving Budsquire instead

If you would rather not fight the catch rate, Budsquire can evolve into Melloblum. The catch is that this path still runs through the same story, since the evolution has to be unlocked first.

Melloblum is weak to Fire, Wind, and Dark at 1.6× incoming damage, and resists Water, Grass, and Earth at 0.625×. Its trait, Phantom Opening, builds one stack of Rose Mark whenever a party member lands basic attack damage, up to 10 stacks, with each stack cutting Melloblum’s EP costs by 3. Its skill set is built entirely around Grass critical hits.

  • Rose Garden (ultimate, 8s cooldown): a magic circle that gives allies in range 70 percent increased Grass Crit Damage for 30 seconds
  • Thorny Blessing (30 EP, 18s cooldown): team-wide buff that spawns damaging thorns under a target hit by Grass Crit Damage, up to once every 0.5 seconds
  • Healing Rose (20 EP, 15s cooldown): applies Rose Mark, which blooms after three critical hits and heals nearby allies for 5 percent of Melloblum’s HP
  • Blasting Roses (20 EP): tracking petals with 35 percent extra Crit Rate

Because Healing Rose only pays out after three crits, it is worth using only when your main damage dealer reliably lands them. Off the field, Melloblum works Grass and Artisanship jobs at level 3 in your Homeland, covering Farmland, Woodland, and the Woodworking Bench.

Prismana Melloblum, the second form

Melloblum has a Prismana form listed as No. S1B, a Grass and Light Support with the same 517 stat total and the same Phantom Opening trait. It swaps in Sparkling Rose, a Light element attack that also clears negative effects from the whole team and carries 15 percent extra Crit Rate. Its weaknesses shift too, taking 2.56× damage from Dark.

This form cannot be evolved into. It is a Season 1 Prismana that becomes catchable while it is rotated into the Vein Abundance event, and it refreshes in the same Maze of Thorns chamber once you progress the Flowers and Thorns quest. If you have already cleared the quest for the standard form, you have done the prep work for this one too.
