Luminis is one of five descendants of Vaelor added with Mariana’s Awakening, and the one stationed at the Calm Zone. Each descendant hands out a mutation-focused fishing task tied to their own layer of Mariana’s Veil, and clearing all five is part of the progression that eventually opens the route toward the Obsidian Trench. Luminis’ set is called Luminis: Shifting Colors, and it is built entirely around the Calm Zone’s crystal fish.

Quick answer: Equip the Ethereal Prism Rod, catch the mutated Geode Grouper and Pearl-Plated Pleco in the Calm Zone, then talk to Luminis again for 50,000 XP and the Calm Gauntlets.

What Luminis asks for in the Calm Zone

The quest revolves around two of the new species added across Mariana’s Veil, both of which live in the Calm Zone: Geode Grouper and Pearl-Plated Pleco. Luminis wants them caught on his layer’s own rod, the Ethereal Prism Rod, and he wants the mutated versions rather than plain catches, which is why the mutation-boosting setup below matters so much.

The rest of the descendant quests follow the same shape. Ignis wants Ashen Fortune fish at the Volcanic Vents, Glacius wants Chilled catches at Challenger’s Deep, Tenebris wants Wrath catches at the Abyssal Zenith, and Resonus is tied to the Veil of the Forsaken. Luminis’ entry is the Calm Zone’s slot in that chain, and each completed set awards a Gauntlet.

Getting into the Calm Zone fishing pool first

You cannot start this one without Calm Zone access, and that means the full submarine run down through Mariana’s Veil. The submarine is built at the oil rig near Roslit Bay, and each layer below it gates the next one behind an altar turn-in. The Volcanic Vents altar grants the Heat Upgrade and Glimmerfin Suit Lvl 1, Challenger’s Deep grants the Ice Upgrade and Lvl 2, and the Abyssal Zenith grants the Deep Upgrade and Lvl 3 — the state you need for the final descent.

Once the submarine is upgraded, the Submarine Shipwright spawns it for you and the route down runs past the branches for Challenger’s Deep and the Abyssal Zenith before threading through the crystal-lit tunnels into the Calm Zone.

Arriving is not enough on its own. The entry section with the waterfalls only produces Ocean fish, so you have to push through to the back of the zone, clear the rock parkour course, and place three Exotic fish on their pedestals to open the gate to the rainbow pool. Those three are Magma Leviathan, Frozen Leviathan and Crowned Anglerfish — one from each layer above.

  • Inn Keeper (spawn point and surface portal): X: -4251, Y: -11200, Z: 1800
  • Parkour skip start: X: -4267, Y: -11202, Z: 2584
  • Climb to: X: -4223, Y: -11134, Z: 2554, then X: -4187, Y: -11116, Z: 2662
  • From that last point, a Glider or Advanced Glider carries you past the rest of the course

Set your spawn at the Inn Keeper as soon as you arrive. The surface portal sits beside him, so you can leave and come back without piloting the submarine down again.

Loadout for Luminis: Shifting Colors

The rod is non-negotiable, and the rest of the kit exists to force the mutation and lock the weather where you want it. The Ethereal Prism Rod is sold in the Calm Zone itself for 3,500,000 C$, down from its original 15,000,000 C$ price.

Completing the quest at the rainbow pool

Speak to the Luminis NPC in the Calm Zone to accept Shifting Colors. The quest text lists both target fish, so you can confirm what you are hunting before you spend any totems.
Equip the Ethereal Prism Rod and set Mutated Sharky as your companion. Nothing else changes your odds of pulling the mutated variants as reliably as that pairing.
Use a Clearcast Totem during the day and drink a Glitched Potion, then load Seaweed bait. Check each fish’s card in the bestiary for its exact time, weather, season and bait before you commit, since the two targets do not share identical preferences.
Fish the rainbow pool and work through the reeling mini-games. Keep an eye on the catch banner — ordinary Pearl-Plated Pleco and Geode Grouper will show up alongside the mutated ones, and only the mutated catches move the quest counter.
Land the Geode Grouper last if it is the one giving you trouble. Once both requirements are ticked off, the quest is ready to turn in and you can head back to the NPC.

Rewards and how to confirm the quest completed

Return to Luminis and he closes the exchange with “Take these Calm Gauntlets for your help.” You get 50,000 XP and the Calm Gauntlets land straight in your inventory, where you can equip them immediately. If the dialogue does not change and no XP popup appears, one of the two mutated catches has not registered yet.

The Calm Gauntlet increases Shiny and Sparkling chances, which makes it worth keeping equipped long after the quest is done — especially if you are still filling out the Calm Zone bestiary, which holds nine species across Common through Exotic.

With Luminis cleared, the Calm Zone slot in the Mariana’s Awakening chain is done. The remaining descendants still need their own layer-specific catches before the Crevice Wall riddle and the layer gems come into play, so bank the Gauntlets and keep the Ethereal Prism Rod handy for whatever you still have left in the pool.
