Valanaar keeps its crafting infrastructure in one tidy cluster instead of scattering it across the city, which is good news if you picked up Blacksmithing or Mining and need a working forge in a hurry. The forge, the anvil, and both relevant trainers share a single open-air spot on the edge of town.
Quick answer: Go to the southeastern corner of Valanaar, at the edge of the ports. The Forge, the Anvil, Daeann Steelwind <Blacksmith>, and Haldour Craigwind <Mining Trainer> are all there.
Route to the Valanaar forge and anvil
The crafting area is outdoors, not tucked inside a building, so you never have to hunt for a door. It sits below the main city level, at the end of a cobblestone road that runs down toward the water.
Trainers stationed at the forge
Two NPCs stand within a few steps of the anvil, and their green nameplates float above them so they are easy to spot from the road.

Click Daeann Steelwind and the dialogue window opens with the apprentice Blacksmithing training option at the top. Taking it sets your Blacksmithing skill to 1/75, the same cap that Mining and Cooking start with at apprentice rank.
The same NPC doubles as a vendor. Switching to the merchant tab shows the basics you need to start both professions:

- Weak Flux
- Strong Flux
Pick up the Mining Pick here before you train Mining, so you can leave the city already able to gather ore.
Smelting Copper Ore at the forge
Smelting is handled through the Mining tab of your spellbook, not by clicking the forge itself. Open the professions list, select Mining, and choose the Smelt Copper recipe.
The recipe produces one Copper Bar from one Copper Ore, and its tooltip lists Requires Forge. Stand next to the forge in Valanaar and the requirement is met, so the cast starts normally and you can queue up multiple bars in a row.
You know the spot is working when the Smelt Copper cast bar fills instead of erroring out, Copper Bars land in your bags, and the anvil beside the forge lets Blacksmithing recipes with an anvil requirement start as well.
What else sits in southeastern Valanaar
The same corner of the city holds the skyship dock, marked by Alliance and Kirin Tor banners. That is the departure point for the route out of Valanaar to Dalaran, so one trip southeast covers both your crafting stop and your way off the island.
Reopening the map after you finish at the forge shows the wider zone, including the nearby settlements Falaath Village and Shen’dar Village if you are lining up your next set of quests.
Because everything is grouped together, Valanaar works well as a home base while you push Blacksmithing and Mining out of the apprentice range. Gather ore in the surrounding zone, run back to the port district, and smelt it all in one pass without hunting for a separate anvil.
