The Magical City of Dalaran: How to Leave Zephras Isle in World of Warcraft

The Magical City of Dalaran is the quest that finally gets you off Zephras Isle and onto the mainland. There is no portal, no flight master, and no boat in the usual sense. The only way out is a flying ship called the Skycutter, and it only picks up passengers from one of two floating docks depending on your faction.

Quick answer: Board the Skycutter at your faction’s dock on Zephras Isle—the Alliance uses the eastern side, and the Horde uses the western side—then turn in the quest to Denaaris Stargale in Dalaran’s Sky Enclave.

Zephras Isle has two docks, and each faction uses its own. Open the map and look at the outer edges of the isle rather than the settlements themselves — the piers sit past the buildings, jutting out over open air.

The other named points on the map — Shen’dar Temple and the Shrine of Aki — are not transport hubs. If you end up at either one, you have gone the wrong way.

How to board the Skycutter and leave Zephras Isle

Pick up the quest from Elaedrin Evergale in the Alliance settlement and leave the sanctuary building. Follow the stone path out through the village toward the edge of the isle.

Cross the bridge and head for the stone archway. On the Alliance side it is marked with blue banners, which is the clearest visual confirmation that you are on the right approach.

Run to the far end of the wooden pier and wait. The Skycutter docks on a timer, so if the sky is empty you have simply arrived between runs.

Watch for the system message reading “The skycutter bound for Dalaran City has just arrived. All aboard for Dalaran City!” and step or jump onto the deck while the ship is docked.

Stay aboard while the ship pulls away and climbs into the clouds. A loading screen with the illustrated map of Azeroth confirms the transition to the mainland.

The deck is not a sanctuary. Players from the opposing faction can board the same ship, and kills on the way over award honor.

Flight route to Dalaran

The crossing takes roughly a minute of real time after the loading screen, and it is entirely automatic. You can move around the deck freely while the ship follows a fixed path over the northern Eastern Kingdoms.

When the Skycutter pulls alongside the city’s balcony platform, run off the deck and into the city. The ship does not wait long, so do not idle through the docking animation.

Where to turn in The Magical City of Dalaran

From the docking platform, head straight through the entryway into the Sky Enclave. The turn-in NPC is Denaaris Stargale <High Order>, standing inside the chamber with a yellow question mark above her head.

You know it worked when the quest clears from your log and she immediately offers the follow-up, Welcome to Azeroth, which opens with the line “Welcome to Azeroth… This is a world of magic, mystery, and danger…” Accept it there and you are done with Zephras Isle for good.
