Marla’s Last Wish is one of the short Horde starter quests in Deathknell, and it is the kind of errand that stalls new players for one reason: the mob you need only exists at a single roaming camp, and he takes a while to come back after someone else kills him. Everything else is a two-minute round trip through Tirisfal Glades.
Quick answer: Kill Samuel Fipps at the ruined camp on the road northeast of Deathknell, take Samuel’s Remains, bury them at Marla’s Grave in the first graveyard row, and report back to Novice Elreth.
Marla’s Last Wish requirements and start location
The quest is Horde-only and lives entirely inside Tirisfal Glades. Before it appears in Novice Elreth’s dialog, a few conditions have to be met.
- Character level 3 or higher; the quest itself is tuned to level 5.
- The prerequisite quest The Damned must already be turned in.
- Novice Elreth, in Deathknell, both gives and completes the quest.
- It is sharable, so a party member who already has it can push it to you.
- Internal quest ID is 6395, which matters for the completion check further down.

On busy servers he is often already dead. Wait near the wagons for the respawn and invite anyone else standing around to a party, since the drop is shared and nobody has to queue for a second kill.

Marla’s Last Wish rewards
The experience and reputation payout depends on which version of the game you are playing.
| Version | Experience | Undercity reputation |
|---|---|---|
| Forever | 450 | +100 |
| Classic (original) | 450 | +100 |
| Season of Mastery | 630 | +100 |
| Burning Crusade Classic | 450 | +250 |
There is no coin reward and no gear. In Forever, the turn-in adds a reward choice of one item from a set of three profession primers, listed as Mining for Dummies, Wild Harvest and Pelt Collecting for Beginners. Pick whichever matches the gathering profession you intend to level, since only one can be taken.
How to check whether Marla’s Last Wish is already complete
If you are not sure whether an alt or an old character already turned this in, run the completion check in chat. A result of true means the quest is flagged complete on that character.

One historical footnote worth knowing if you are hunting for this on a modern retail character: Marla’s Last Wish was removed from the live game in patch 4.0.3a when Cataclysm reshaped the starting zones. It only exists in the Classic-line clients, which is why the Deathknell graveyard looks nothing like it does on retail.
