Desert with tall cactus plants in Final Fantasy Resonance

The Cactuar in Final Fantasy Resonance has no fixed spawn point. It shows up as a random encounter in seven World Map field areas across four regions, and the Metal Cactuar is a separate random encounter in eight field areas of Mysidia.

Quick answer: Walk the World Map fields of Dirnado (Chapter 2, one area), Zoldaad Empire Territory (Chapter 4, four areas), Gronoa (Chapter 6, one area) or the Kingdom of Grandshelt (one area) for a Cactuar. The Metal Cactuar appears in eight field areas of Mysidia (Chapter 5).

Where Cactuars appear

It joins ordinary World Map battles in its regions, so you need to keep walking those fields until one turns up in a fight. It shares those battles with the rest of each region’s monsters, which you can check in the enemies list.

These are the World Map fields where it appears:

  • Dirnado, the Continent of Wind (one field area): the fields near Dilmagia, the Machinopolis and the Dwarven Forge. The Chapter 2 story (Eternal Blue) takes you here.
  • Zoldaad Empire Territory (four field areas): the Chapter 4 story (Banner Oath) brings you to Zoldaad, the Imperial Capital.
  • Gronoa, the Shuttered Land (one field area): the fields of the region that holds Gaberada, the Undertown. Chapter 5 ends with “Go to Gronoa”, and Chapter 6 opens with “Search the continent of Gronoa”.
  • Kingdom of Grandshelt (one field area): one World Map field area in the home kingdom also has Cactuar encounters.

Of the regions with a story chapter, Dirnado (Chapter 2) is the earliest to reach. Zoldaad Empire Territory has the most Cactuar field areas, four, so it gives you the most ground to search.

Cactuar level, rewards and drops

The Cactuar is a Plantoid enemy at Lv. 30, and every kill pays 1,111 EXP and 1,111 Gil. Here’s the full card:

Card of the Cactuar level, HP, EXP, Gil, weakness, drop and steal
Cactuar: Lv. 30, 1,111 EXP and 1,111 Gil.
  • HP: 1,111
  • Rewards: 1,111 EXP and 1,111 Gil per kill
  • Drop: Healing Spring (“Gradually restores HP.”), which sells for 1,250 Gil
  • Steal: Mist Ether
  • Weaknesses: Ice and Water
  • Traits: “Has high evasion.”, “Has high evasion, but stops evading while staggered.” and “Awards a large amount of MRP.”

That last trait makes the Cactuar worth farming beyond the EXP and Gil, since the large MRP payout feeds your Vision Mastery Rank. Healing Spring and Mist Ether both appear in the items list.

How to hit a Cactuar

The Cactuar dodges a lot, but the game spells out how to get around that: it stops evading while staggered. Build up its stagger gauge first, then hold your strongest attacks until the stagger lands. If you need a refresher on how the gauge works, see how stagger plays out in combat.

Bring Ice or Water attacks. Those are its two weaknesses, so they’re the elements to lean on throughout the fight.

Where to find the Metal Cactuar

  • Type: Plantoid
  • Level: Lv. 36
  • HP: 10
  • Rewards: 25,000 EXP and 1,000 Gil per kill
  • Drop: Remedy
  • Resists: Fire, Ice, Thunder, Water, Wind, Earth, Light and Dark
  • Traits: “Extremely durable.”, “Has high evasion.” and “Awards a large amount of EXP.”
Card of the Metal Cactuar level, HP, EXP, Gil, resistances and drop
Metal Cactuar: Lv. 36, 25,000 EXP.

Because it resists all eight elements, there’s no elemental weakness to exploit here, unlike the regular Cactuar. Its 10 HP sits behind high evasion and extreme durability, and the payoff for getting through is 25,000 EXP per kill.

It turns up in eight World Map field areas of Mysidia, the Uncharted Land, which you reach in Chapter 5; see where Mysidia is for the town and its shops. The larger Metal Gigantuar has its own achievement, “Priceless Experience”, in the achievements guide.
