Skull ratings decide what a body is worth in Graveyard Keeper 2. White skulls raise the quality of a buried grave, while red skulls feed the corruption that turns a corpse into a skilled zombie worker. Pushing either count to its ceiling takes the same core loop: bring in a better body, strip the parts you do not want, then inject embalming solutions to stack the skulls you do want. Done properly, a single corpse can reach a full 11 white skulls with zero red before it goes in the ground.

Quick answer: Upgrade the Witch’s hut for higher-tier bodies, remove skin and guts on Autopsy Table I to clear red skulls, then inject two gold-star Solution for Corpses on Embalming Table I to reach the 11-white-skull cap.

What you need before you start

Two things gate this whole process: the quality of the bodies arriving on your slab, and the tech that lets you craft embalming fluids. Sort both out first, or the numbers will never climb high enough.

  • Upgraded Witch’s hut at the Crossroads, which raises the base skull count on delivered corpses to at least six.
  • Embalming I, which unlocks Embalming Table I and the Solution for Corpses recipe.
  • Laboratory tech and the Create: Preservative node for the base reagent.
  • For red skulls only: Reanimation Liquid and Create: Alcohol, which open up Solution for Zombies.

Walk to the Crossroads and upgrade the Witch’s wooden hut. Once she is upgraded, her deliveries shift to bodies that already carry a higher skull total, which gives you enough headroom to hit the cap after embalming.

Open the Anatomy and alchemy tech tree next. You need Embalming I, the Embalming Table I blueprint, and the Laboratory line that lets you craft Preservative. If you are chasing red skulls for zombies instead, add Reanimation Liquid and Create: Alcohol so the Solution for Zombies recipe becomes available.

How white and red skulls work

Every body carries a mix of red and white skulls, and the two serve opposite goals. White skulls push up your graveyard quality when you bury and decorate a grave. Red skulls drag burial quality down, but they are the property you want when resurrecting a body, since corruption drives a zombie’s skill.

You have two ways to use the bodies: bury those with mostly white skulls to raise cemetery quality, and turn red-skull-heavy corpses into workers. Check the skulls before choosing. A heavily corrupted body is valuable as a worker, while resurrecting a clean one throws away the effort you put into the morgue.

Max white skulls for burial (up to 11)

Craft Preservative at the Alchemy Lab. Open the Folio to confirm the formula, which calls for three green (water/life) runes. Common ingredients like Water and a Stick supply those runes.

Use Laboratory II to combine your ingredients into the three green runes and produce the Preservative. Hit Craft once the rune vessel shows the correct combination.

Take the Preservative to the Formulation Bench in the Writing Basement and craft a gold-star Solution for Corpses. The recipe pairs Preservative with Melted Fat. A gold-quality batch is worth chasing because it adds three white skulls per injection instead of one or two.

Bring the body to Autopsy Table I and clear the red skulls. Removing the skin and guts strips out the parts that carry red skulls, bringing that count down toward zero.

Move the corpse to Embalming Table I and inject the first gold-star Solution for Corpses. This adds white skulls to the body, taking a starting body of around five white skulls up to eight.
Apply a second gold-star Solution for Corpses in the next open slot. The table accepts multiple injections in succession, and the second dose lifts the body from eight to the full 11 white skulls.

Always use the highest-quality solution you can make. Bronze adds one white skull, silver adds two, and gold adds three, so gold-star batches are what let you reach the ceiling in only two injections.

Max red skulls for zombies

If the body is destined for resurrection, you want red skulls rather than white. The workflow mirrors the burial route, but you swap the solution.

Craft Solution for Zombies at the Formulation Bench. It uses Alcohol in place of Preservative. You can distill Alcohol at the Distillation Cube, or simply buy Beer if you would rather skip the crafting.
Place the corpse on Embalming Table I and inject the Solution for Zombies. Each dose adds one to three red skulls depending on the star quality, and higher-quality batches raise the corruption faster.

Bodies left out accumulate more red skulls as their vital organs rot, which improves their grade for resurrection. That decay works against you for burial, so only leave a corpse waiting when you intend to zombify it.

Both solutions are made on the same bench in the Writing Basement, and both scale their skull bonus with quality. The only meaningful difference is the base reagent: Preservative for white skulls, Alcohol for red.

How to confirm it worked

Inspect the body after your final injection. A fully prepared burial corpse reads 0 red and 11 white skulls, which is the maximum rating. Carry it to the graveyard and bury it to lock in that score, then decorate the grave with crosses and fences so the white skulls actually convert into cemetery quality. If your decoration points ever exceed the white-skull count, the extra decoration is wasted, so match your decor to the skulls on the grave.
