Legendary and raid mounts like Jetragon or Hartalis hog the top of every speed chart, but a lot of the fastest real-world travel in Palworld comes from ordinary Pals with the right partner skills. Several mounts you can catch well before the endgame move faster than their raw numbers suggest, because their bonuses kick in on specific terrain, over water, or while gliding.

Quick answer: Leaving out legendaries and raid bosses, the strongest travel options are Direhowl and Chillet, plus Fenglope and Dazemu; Palumba and Ghangler Ignis also stand out, alongside Suzaku Aqua, Selyne, and Eidrolon Ignis. Each is fastest in a particular situation, so no single mount leads everywhere.

The non-legendary speed roster at a look

The sprint numbers below are base values. Terrain specialists like Dazemu and Palumba climb far higher once their partner skills apply, and condensing a Pal to 4-star raises its stats again. Water figures are swim speed rather than sprint speed.

Early ground mounts that punch above their level

Direhowl

Direhowl is the first genuinely quick mount most players can grab, spawning in the low-level starter regions around the map’s opening areas. Its partner skill, Direhowl Rider, adds a ride-speed bonus of 10% at two stars, so condensing one early gives you a noticeably faster horse right away.

The reason Direhowl stays useful past the early game is its active skill, Fierce Fang. When you are overburdened with heavy loads like ore, a normal walk crawls to a stop, but Fierce Fang lets Direhowl lunge forward a long way even while encumbered. That makes it a handy shuttle for hauling mining runs back to base.

Chillet

Chillet is an Ice/Dragon Alpha found at Level 11 near Grassy Behemoth Hills and Fort Ruins, and it can freeze targets to raise capture rates. On land it matches Direhowl’s sprint, but its real trick is water. Chillet has the fastest baseline swim speed of any non-legendary, non-raid mount at 1890.

Chillet is not a true Water Pal, so it burns your own stamina while swimming and can drown if you run out. It is excellent for short crossings, but it is not a replacement for a dedicated aquatic mount on long ocean hauls.

Fenglope and the glider launch

Fenglope shows up as a Level 25 Alpha inside an underground waterfall cavern, and its partner skill, Wind and Clouds, lets it double jump while mounted on top of a modest ride-speed bonus. That double jump is the foundation for one of the fastest movement tricks in the game.

Its exclusive active skill, Cloud Tempest, charges forward inside a pressurized wind tunnel. Chain that charge into a cliff jump and the mounted double jump, then dismount at the peak, and the momentum flings your character forward into a glider flight. It turns Fenglope into a launch pad for covering long distances off high ground rather than a straight-line runner.

Terrain specialists: Dazemu and Palumba

These two mounts look average on paper and become the fastest ground options in the game the moment you match them to the right surface. Their partner skills only apply on specific terrain, so route choice matters more than base stats.

Dazemu

Dazemu unlocks around Level 28 and carries Sand Sprint, which raises movement speed by 50% while riding on sand. The wrinkle is how the game classifies surfaces. Dirt trails that wind through grassy and forest biomes count as sand, so following the beaten paths keeps the boost active far outside the desert.

Palumba

Palumba is the mirror image. Its Samba Step skill adds up to 155% movement speed on grass at level three, which makes open grasslands its playground and produces some of the highest real speeds any non-legendary mount reaches. Step onto a dirt trail or stone and it slows right back down, so it is the opposite pick to Dazemu depending on the biome you are crossing. Palumba also has a floating jump that slows its descent off cliffs and hillsides.

Water travel and ocean salvaging

Two later mounts pair speed with the ability to trigger ocean salvage prompts, letting you pull loot from the sea without swapping to a separate aquatic Pal.

Ghangler Ignis is a Water/Fire mount. Its Abyssal Celebrity Chef skill raises movement speed by 5% for every additional Fire or Water Pal in your party. Build a team around those types to push its water speed well past its base value. Its combat hitbox is small, and a Powerful Fishing Magnet is used to trigger salvage prompts.

Suzaku Aqua is a flying mount that gains 5% speed per other Water Pal in the party through Wings of Water. Because it skims low over the surface, it can trigger the same ocean salvage prompts while flying, so a single Suzaku Aqua covers both aerial travel and sea salvage without a dedicated water mount.

Endgame flyers: Selyne and Eidrolon Ignis

Selyne is a high-speed flyer with a base sprint of 1600, spawning from meteorite and supply-drop events on Sakurajima around Level 50. It is quick enough for open-map travel and its spawns are tied to those events, so it doubles as a target during Sakurajima runs.

You cannot draw or fire handheld weapons while riding Selyne, so treat it as a pure transport flyer rather than a combat mount.

Eidrolon Ignis is the endgame pick here, a Fire/Dragon flyer unlocking at Level 76 with a base sprint of 2750. It offers high aerial speed for long-distance travel and hits hard with abilities like Meteorite, making it both a fast transport and a capable combat mount once you reach the late game.

The takeaway across all of these is that “fastest” depends on where you are riding. Terrain-locked skills on Dazemu and Palumba, Fenglope’s glider launch, and Chillet’s swim speed can each beat a higher-tier mount in the right spot, while Selyne and Eidrolon Ignis handle raw open-air distance once you have the levels for them.
