Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave — How to Unlock the Cataphract Class (Theodora Route)

The Cataphract is an advanced cavalry class that pairs heavy armor with a mount, and it only becomes available on Theodora’s route. You open it by turning in two fish-gathering requests for Bonaventure, after which the certification exam appears for every eligible unit across Parts 1 and 2.

Quick answer: On Theodora’s route, complete Send Supplies: Steelfish (10 Steelfish) and Send Supplies: Ladon Loach (35 Ladon Loach) for Bonaventure, then take the Cataphract certification exam.

Cataphract exam requirements

Unlocking the class through the supply quests only lets units sit the exam. Each unit you want to reclass still needs the right license, level, and skill ranks to pass. The exam uses the Advanced license, so the class sits at Renown Level 8 with an ideal character level of 35.

The two Send Supplies quests you need

You hand these quests in to Bonaventure during Free Time. Open the Send Supplies tab and confirm both requests are active before you start fishing.

Each supply request carries a deadline, so check the timer in the menu and gather both catches before it lapses.

Where to catch Steelfish and Ladon Loach

Both fish are found in the coastal wetland region directly south of Dagxion. You travel there on the world map and harvest them by searching each spot or by sending battalions out to search on your behalf.

Steelfish — caught at Socie Bay in the Danann Sea, the fishing ground that acts as the gateway to Dagxion.

Gather the fish and turn in both quests

Talk to Bonaventure during Free Time and open the Send Supplies tab. Confirm that both the Steelfish and Ladon Loach requests are listed as active.

Head south from Dagxion on the world map to the wetland stretch that contains Socie Bay and Ladon Lake.

At Socie Bay, use Deploy to Search, then dispatch your available battalions, including Special Cavalry, to look for Steelfish.

Travel west to Ladon Lake, use Deploy to Search once more, and dispatch battalions to gather Ladon Loach.

Alternate between the two spots, redeploying search parties as they return, until you have collected 10 Steelfish and 35 Ladon Loach. Search deployments also drop other fish, which you can keep or ignore.

Return to Bonaventure, reopen Send Supplies, and turn in both completed quests to claim their gold and renown.

How to confirm the class is unlocked

Once both deliveries are handed in, a Class Unlocked message appears confirming that new certification exams are available for the Cataphract. You can verify it by visiting the Exam Proctor in Dagxion’s Hightown during Free Time and opening the Advanced Exam list, where the Cataphract now appears for eligible units. The class stays available on the route once unlocked.

Cataphract abilities and stat bonuses

The Cataphract is an Advanced cavalry and heavy armor class with 6 movement that can wield spears, swords, and axes. Its draw is durability: high defense growth combined with a defensive master ability, at the cost of speed and resistance.

Pavise (master ability) — 20% chance to take half damage from a physical attack.
Mount/Dismount — enables the Mount and Dismount commands.
Strike-Last Def +3 — grants Prt +3 during combat when the foe attacks first.
Combat Arts +1 — the unit can equip one extra combat art.

The class also boosts skill experience gains for its weapons and mounts, adding +1 to Sword, Riding, and Heavy Armor and +2 to Spear and Axe after battle. Because its defense scales well while speed drops, the Cataphract suits durable frontline units rather than fast attackers, and mastering it to earn Pavise makes those units even harder to bring down.
