World of Warcraft Classic: The Demon Seed Quest Guide

The Demon Seed is a Horde quest in World of Warcraft Classic that sends you up Dreadmist Peak in The Barrens to disrupt a Burning Legion artifact. It is the third step in the Neeru Fireblade chain and revolves around a timed item, so the main challenge is reaching the altar before your power stone burns out.

Quick answer: Take a Flawed Power Stone from the table next to Ak’Zeloth, climb Dreadmist Peak to the cave at 47, 19, and destroy the Demon Seed at the Altar of Fire within 30 minutes.

Quest requirements and rewards

Both the start and turn-in happen with Ak’Zeloth at the Far Watch Post in The Barrens, near coordinates 62, 20. Although the quest is filed under Durotar, every objective takes place in The Barrens.

Pick up the Flawed Power Stone first

The single most common mistake is forgetting the stone. It is a clickable item sitting on the table right beside Ak’Zeloth, and you need one free inventory slot to hold it. When you accept the quest, Ak’Zeloth tells you plainly, “Take a stone from the table.”

The Flawed Power Stone decays after 30 minutes. If it expires before you reach the altar, walk back to the table and grab another one, then try again.

Climb Dreadmist Peak

Dreadmist Peak sits toward the western side of The Barrens, roughly at 49, 15 on the zone map. Most faces of the mountain are too steep to climb on foot, so the route matters. The quest text suggests the northern face, but the western and southeastern slopes are faster and pass fewer enemies. You will know you are on the right mountain because the sky turns a fiery orange and the summit is wrapped in red mist.

Find the ridge’s western foot just east of The Forgotten Pools. A gently sloped ledge there provides a route up the rock face on foot. Players have suggested starting near 50, 22 or 51, 21.

Follow the spine of the ridge upward. Stay on the natural crest of the rock rather than trying to cut across steeper sections, and run straight toward the top. You will pass a small centaur camp on some approaches, but it is easy to skirt around.

Reach the top of Dreadmist Peak. A zone alert confirms you have discovered it. From here, look for the cave rather than heading to the very highest point, since the altar is not at the summit itself.

Clear the camp and destroy the Demon Seed

The cave entrance, Dreadmist Den, sits at 47, 19, flanked by campfires, tents, and Burning Blade cultists. Expect Burning Blade Fanatics and Acolytes in the level 11–12 range, plus a stronger axe-wielding guard. Pulling them one at a time makes the fight manageable for a character in the low teens.

Pull the guards outside the cave one by one and clear a path to the entrance. There are no elite enemies to worry about here.

Enter the cave and follow the short tunnel into the main chamber. You will see a large glowing red crystal hovering above the stone Altar of Fire, so the target is hard to miss.

Interact with the altar to use the power stone and destroy the Demon Seed. The objective updates to “Destroy the Demon Seed: 1/1” and an “Objective Complete” message appears overhead.

Turn in and confirm completion

Leave the cave and travel back to Ak’Zeloth at the Far Watch Post to hand in the quest. You know it worked when the objective reads 1/1 and the completed marker appears on your map at Dreadmist Peak. On turn-in, Ak’Zeloth confirms the Seed is destroyed and awards Banshee Armor along with the experience and Orgrimmar reputation.

With the Seed broken and the reward collected, the Neeru Fireblade chain is complete, and you are free to move on to the rest of your Barrens leveling route.
