The full monster list across the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine, with the oil, sign, bomb, and potion each foe fears.

The full monster list across the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine, with the oil, sign, bomb, and potion each foe fears.

Every creature Geralt can hunt in The Witcher 3, plus its Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, is sorted into a combat class, and each class shares an oil. Coat the right sword with the matching oil, keep the correct sign ready, and pack the bombs or potions listed below before you engage. This is the complete rundown, class by class, of what damages every monster fastest.

Quick answer: Silver swords hit most monsters while beasts take steel; apply the class oil (Necrophage, Cursed, Draconid, Elementa, Hybrid, Insectoid, Ogroid, Relict, Specter, Vampire, or Beast) and use the sign, bomb, or potion listed in each table below.

How monster classes and oils work

The game files place every creature into a class, and each class has one oil built for it. Beasts are the exception that dies to steel swords and Beast Oil, while nearly every other class needs a silver sword paired with the matching oil. Signs, bombs, and potions listed for a monster stack extra damage or control on top of that base setup.

Bestiary entries fill in as you encounter creatures or read certain books, and each entry records vulnerabilities and immunities. Tip: Read a new entry the moment you meet a monster type so you can swap to the correct oil before the next fight.

Confirming a full bestiary

You know an entry is filled when its page in the Glossary shows the monster’s vulnerabilities and immunities instead of a locked placeholder. Encountering a creature usually adds it, and reading the right book completes entries you have not fought yet. When every class above shows no empty slots, your compendium is complete across the base game and both expansions.
