Chapter 4 of the Asmodian story, Ill-Fated Encounter, picks up in Altgard with Nemon hunting for the scattered Nornir and chasing leads toward Zikel’s Core. It is a 14-quest run that moves from the ruins of Uruthumheim into the Purifying Forest, and it leans hard on two things: clearing out the Blood Blades and restoring four contaminated Spirit Altars.

Quick answer: Ill-Fated Encounter is 14 Episode quests in Altgard for Asmodian characters, recommended levels 24 to 30, worth 22,068,201 EXP in total when every quest is cleared in order.

1. Searching for Survivors

Searching for Survivors starts and ends with Nemon, and it sends you to Uruthumheim on Odar’s instructions to find out what happened to the Nornir. Recommended level is 24. Nemon gives it at Odar’s Shade; you turn it in to her near the Northern Altar.

Make your way to the Abandoned Site, located by the entrance of Uruthumheim.
Talk to Nemon there to size up the situation before splitting the group.
Clear out the Blades by defeating 8 Blades Ruins Explorer and Blades Ruins Scout enemies, open the Nornir Supply Chest, and examine the Nornir Corpse. All that is left at the site is a murdered Nornir and signs of a fierce fight, with no trace of Urd.

Accept the urgent Selvis call. As Nemon puts it before you wade in, “Well, we have to fight them eventually anyway. We may as well smash our way through.” She finds a surviving Nornir at the Northern Altar, which sets up the next quest.

2. Prison Break

Prison Break is a single-action quest given by Nemon near the Northern Altar and turned in to Hadala at the Minushan Site. It is recommended for level 24. You rejoin Nemon and try to rescue the captured Nornir, but a Blades Bomber detonates a trap that kills everyone inside. The whole thing was bait to lure Nemon in. Searching the area turns up evidence the Blades were moving more captured Daeva elsewhere, and Hadala then calls you to join her and the ruins caretaker Gohok. “Hah! You walked right into our trap!” the Bomber crows as the plan falls apart.

3. Finding Stolen Relics

Finding Stolen Relics has Hadala hand it off at the Minushan Site and Gohok take the turn-in, at recommended level 24. Gohok, the caretaker plagued by Blades raids, promises information on Urd and the Nornir if you recover what was stolen. In one step you collect drops from Daeva Renegade Assassin enemies, open the Relic Chest, and defeat 2 Ancient Ruins Apparatus to reclaim the Golden Uruthum Statue, the History of Uruthumheim, and the Fragment of Minusha’s Heart. With the relics returned, Gohok says the Nornir are at the Eastern Altar and offers to guide you.

4. Voice of Rage

Voice of Rage begins when Gohok gives it to you at the Minushan Site; you turn it in to Nemon outside the Collapsed Oracle. The recommended level is 25. Gohok’s supposed “guidance” is a trap. Fight through the ambush, confront his betrayal, and open the way to the Collapsed Oracle, the place where Urd’s card was found.

Clear 4 Draconute Ruins Ranger and Draconute Ruins Tinkerer enemies, 3 Mind-Controlled Ancient Ranger and Ancient Soldier enemies, and the Midsize Fafnium. With them defeated, the way to the Eastern Altar opens; meet Gohok once more outside it. Nemon describes the tactic: “The Blades keep using people I know as bait.”

5. Tangled Past

Tangled Past begins with Nemon at the Collapsed Oracle and ends with Urd at the Nornir Assembly; the recommended level is 25. After a close encounter with Gerod, leader of the Blades, you at last come face to face with Urd, who leads the Nornir and is one of the Three Women of Fate.

Search the Collapsed Oracle for clues to Urd’s location, and retrieve her Card of Fate on the way.
Ask Nemon how to proceed. Hallina, one of the survivors, says most Nornir who escaped capture have gone to a hidden Assembly.
Travel to the Nornir Assembly. Gerod leaves on a descending Dredgion with a sneer, and under its bombardment the Oracle collapses around you.
Speak with Nemon at the Assembly entrance, then go inside to meet Urd. “Nemon, Ulgorn, Hadala… It has been too long,” she says, alluding to her shared past with Nemon and the rampaging High Priest.

6. The High Priest Slumbers

The High Priest Slumbers begins and ends with Urd at the Nornir Assembly, recommended at level 26. In one step you head to the Nornir Altar to check whether Hystan’s body is safe. Urd tries to read the memories held in the scar on his body, but without the power of the Red Fafnite he cannot be awakened. Meanwhile the Assembly’s barrier weakens as the Spirits fade, so securing the place means restoring every Spirit Altar in the Purifying Forest. “Once you have retrieved the High Priest’s Fafnite, you will be able to find the Core,” Urd explains.

7. Striving for Coexistence

Striving for Coexistence is a breather quest assigned by Urd and completed with Varron at the Nornir Assembly. Its recommended level is 26. Before you head out to repair the altars, you help the Nornir refugees who were rescued and are staying at the Assembly.

Talk to Varron, who asks for help gathering supplies for the injured refugees.
Gather drops worth 8,000 from Soft Breeze Spirit enemies just outside the Assembly to obtain ingredients for recovery potions.
Open the General Goods Chest and the Garment Chest to gather food, water, and clean clothing for the patients.

8. Preparations for Restoration

Preparations for Restoration moves from Varron at the Nornir Assembly to Hadala at the Wind Altar, recommended at level 27. Along the way you learn why Nemon is so driven, and you collect the Pristine Purifying Light needed to begin the altar work.

Take Ulgorn’s Selvis call.
Speak with Ulgorn, who recounts Nemon’s history.
Talk to Hadala for more of that history.
Go back to Urd, and decide to cleanse the forest.
Talk to Hallina, who agrees to guide you.
Head to the Old Purifying Altar.
Defeat 8 Faded Stone Spirit, Forest Spirit, and Whirlwind Spirit enemies, then remove the Poison Blood Clot three times to clear the area around the Wind Altar.

Finish up by answering Hadala’s Selvis call. With Hallina’s assistance, you’ve located the Pristine Purifying Light by this point.

9. A Collective Effort

A Collective Effort is a long one, given by Hadala at the Wind Altar and turned in to Darmand at the Faded Stump, recommended at level 27. You restore the first two altars and meet the Spirit Guides working to clear the Poison Blood.

Purify the Wind Altar.
Take Ulgorn’s Selvis call.
Relay the message to Hadala.
Meet Ulgorn at the Guide Rest Stop, where the Spirit Guides are gathered.
At the Fire Altar, destroy the Rift Fragment three times, kill 8 Flame Rock Spider enemies, and clear away the Vines Corroded by Poison Blood three times.
Take Ulgorn’s second Selvis call.
Purify the Fire Altar.
Report the Fire Altar’s restoration to Ulgorn.
Return to the Guide Rest Stop and talk to Zaksen, which leads you to Darmand and trouble near the Earth Altar.

10. Land of Rifts

Land of Rifts begins with Darmand at the Faded Stump and ends with Nemon at the Water Altar; the recommended level is 29. Etheria Rifts threaten even the Purifying Forest. Restore the Earth Altar as the Spirit Guides work to contain the fissures.

At the Earth Altar, dispel the Toxic Aura three times, kill 3 Corroded Soil Spirit enemies, then defeat 5 Pink Gravi.
Purify the Earth Altar alongside Darmand. A guide warns that fixing the altar alone will not solve everything, pointing you toward Grisilla, the manifestation of the Sacred Tree.
Answer Nemon’s Selvis call. She has found Grisilla collapsed by the Water Altar after Grisilla attempted to purify it alone.

11. Dying Light

Dying Light is given by Nemon at the Water Altar and turned in to Grisilla at the Healing Spring, recommended at level 30. The plan is to purify the last altar in the hope that it revives the unconscious Grisilla.

Purify the Water Altar.
Report to Nemon, who decides to move Grisilla to the Healing Spring.
Secure the area around the Water Altar: clear the Contaminated Water three times, defeat 3 Water Mist Spirit enemies, and defeat 5 Cursed Poison Blood.
Check with Nemon to find out how Grisilla is doing.
Help heal Grisilla by removing the Contaminated Root three times, defeating 4 Poison Blood Spider, and defeating 4 Consumed Klaw.
Take Nemon’s Selvis call. Grisilla finally wakes at the Healing Spring, crediting the cleared poison blood around the roots rather than the spring alone.

12. Contaminated Sacred Tree

Contaminated Sacred Tree begins with Grisilla at the Healing Spring and concludes with Urd at that same location. The recommended level is 30. Grisilla explains that purifying the Poison Blood requires going directly to the Root of the Sacred Tree, and she can take only one companion inside.

Go to the root entrance and meet Grisilla there.
Go inside the Root of the Sacred Tree and assist Grisilla as she tries to cleanse the core mass of poison blood. It fights back violently.

13. The Past Revealed

The Past Revealed is given by Urd at the Healing Spring and turned in to Ulgorn at the Nornir Assembly, recommended at level 30. The Life Essence lets you read the memories locked in the High Priest’s scar.

Urd

Go to the altar to meet Urd.
Visit the Nornir Altar and examine the High Priest’s memories. They explain what brought his body to wander Altgard and disclose that a man called Reuben escaped the Impetusium.
Speak with Hallina and then Varron to learn about the Destruction Archons. Since the memories reveal nothing beyond the Core, the group chooses to follow the Destruction Archons’ trail gradually.

14. Canyon’s Secret

Canyon’s Secret closes the chapter, beginning and ending with Ulgorn at the Nornir Assembly, recommended at level 30. While Ulgorn chases the missing Destruction Archon, you investigate the strange Urugugu Canyon.

Talk to Dinoh about the valley he found while on a mission for Nemon.
Investigate Urugugu Canyon through its entrance, defeating the Urugugu tribe that worships the Balaur.
Share what you found with Dinoh. Menrik, commander of the Fang Legion, arrives with word of a surviving Destruction Archon: “I have reason to believe a Destruction Archon might be imprisoned in the Dranactus Underkeep.” That sends the group toward Dranactus Fortress and into the next chapter.
