Set in an alternate 19th-century Napoleonic Europe, Valor Mortis is a first-person soulslike coming to PS5 on October 13, 2026. PlayStation Plus subscribers can try it before buying, but the method depends on their subscription tier.

Quick answer: Valor Mortis is not a free full game on PS Plus. PlayStation Plus Premium members get a 90-minute timed Game Trial at launch, and your progress carries over if you later buy the game.

What PlayStation Plus members get at launch

The PS Plus offering is a Game Trial, available to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers on launch day. Game Trials are timed demos reserved for higher-profile releases, and they sit behind the Premium tier rather than the Essential or Extra plans.

The Valor Mortis trial runs for 90 minutes. That is shorter than some other trials on the service, which can stretch to several hours, so you get a focused window into the opening of the campaign before the timer ends.

You can start the trial from the game’s PlayStation Plus page once it goes live on October 13.

Trial progress carries over to the full game

The 90-minute session is timed access to the full game, not a separate cut-down build. Anything you complete during the trial stays on your account. If you buy Valor Mortis afterward, you pick up from where you stopped instead of replaying the opening sections.

You can confirm it worked by loading your existing save after purchasing the full game. Your character, equipment, and story progress from the trial should be intact, with no forced restart.

PS Plus trial vs. Xbox Game Pass

Access differs between the two subscription services, so it helps to know what each one actually gives you on day one.

On Xbox, Valor Mortis joins Game Pass in full at launch, so subscribers there can play the whole 20-hour campaign without buying it separately. On PlayStation, the service only offers the timed trial, and the complete game remains a paid purchase.

The developer previously ran Steam demos earlier in the year but pulled them in September after performance feedback. The PS Plus trial is a separate offering tied to the launch and is not expected to be removed the same way.

Price and editions if you buy Valor Mortis

If the trial convinces you, there are two editions to choose from. The difference comes down to whether you want a future story expansion bundled in now.

EditionPriceContents
Standard$39.99Base game
Deluxe$59.99Base game plus a future story DLC

The physical version is also priced at $39.99 and includes the same roughly 20-hour campaign. The Deluxe Edition only makes financial sense if the story DLC ends up costing more than the $20 gap on its own. Otherwise, the Standard Edition covers the full base game.

No pre-orders or early access

One More Level is not offering Valor Mortis pre-orders. No one gets early access, and advance purchases come with no exclusive content. On launch day, every buyer pays the same price and receives the same content.

That makes the decision straightforward. On PS5, play the 90-minute PS Plus Premium trial first, keep the progress, and only pay the $39.99 if the opening hour and a half sells you on the rest of the game.
