Silent Hill: Townfall now has a patch aimed squarely at the two moments players kept getting stuck on: the stalking enemy called The Weight, and the console puzzle near the end of the game. The update rolled out on October 8, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC, and it changes how dangerous The Weight is, tones down enemy awareness across the board, and gives you a reference for the Remote Systems Control puzzle.

Quick answer: Install patch 1.4.0 (version v1.5.154194). On Story and Normal, The Weight’s grab now deals heavy damage instead of killing you instantly, and a scannable manual for the Remote Systems Control console has been added.

The Weight no longer insta-kills on Story and Normal

The unkillable pursuer known as The Weight tracks Simon across specific areas during the middle and later portions of the game. At launch, even one grab immediately triggered a death animation. Because its AI could wait beside your objective and stay in one place, these encounters became drawn-out exercises in waiting.

BehaviorAfter patch 1.4.0
Grab attack (Story / Normal)Deals heavy damage instead of instant death
Grab attack (Nightmare)Still kills instantly
Camping your objectiveReduced; no longer parks in front of it for long stretches
Searching the same spotReduced; stops repeatedly checking and staying in one area
Tracking youLess aggressive hunting

The Weight still cannot be killed on any difficulty. The change is to the consequence of being caught and to how it moves while hunting, not to whether you can fight it off.

If you want the original stakes, Nightmare difficulty keeps The Weight’s grab lethal. The melee and stealth tweaks below, however, apply to every difficulty, so there is no mode that preserves the pre-patch combat exactly.

Stealth and melee combat changes for all enemies

Beyond The Weight, the patch lowers how easily regular enemies notice and punish you. These apply across difficulties.

  • Gunfire noise attracts enemies less than before.
  • Enemies are less likely to notice the sound of your running.
  • Enemies are less likely to hear you enter a hiding space.
  • Enemies counterattack less often after you land a melee hit.
  • With the exception of The Weight, enemies no longer try to grapple you while you are actively blocking with a melee weapon.
  • After escaping a grapple, you have a longer window to react to enemies.

Remote Systems Control puzzle gets a manual

The late-game puzzle uses the Remote Systems Control console, where you enter a sequence of commands made up of symbols and numbers. At launch the room offered no clear reference, which left a lot of players guessing right at the end of the game.

The patch adds a collectible manual for consulting during use of the Remote Systems Control console, giving you a handy reference as you operate it. Finding and using the manual are optional, so you can still solve the puzzle on your own. The pipe layout in the “Aux Line” puzzle has also been changed for easier reading.

Bug fixes in patch 1.4.0

  • In Part 5, a glass-related progression blocker that prevented entry to the CEG Tower has been fixed.
  • A Part 5 display issue that could give Projector Slides identical names has been corrected.
  • Several locations that let you leave the bounds and disrupt the game sequence have been fixed.
  • Fixed the Letterbox option not appearing on ultrawide monitors.
  • Previously missing key assignments are now available for AZERTY keyboards.
  • Frame timing has been improved, with further reductions to streaming stutter.

How to confirm the patch is installed

In the main menu, look at the number shown in the lower-right corner. A reading of v1.5.154194 means patch 1.4.0 is installed and its changes are active. If the number is older, restart the game or storefront and wait for the download to finish before loading your save.

Townfall is Screen Burn’s first full-length first-person entry in the series, co-published by Konami and Annapurna Interactive, and it launched on September 24, 2026 for PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The developer had said earlier that a balancing update for The Weight was “on its way,” and patch 1.4.0 is that follow-through — easing the pressure for most players while leaving Nightmare as the mode that keeps the original danger.
