Storm huts are small, bunker-like structures scattered across the snowy map in ARC Raiders, and they hide loot you cannot reach in calm weather. Their exterior doors stay locked until a storm sweeps the area, at which point they power up and swing open on their own. Knowing the timing turns a sealed box into a quick supply run.
Quick answer: Storm huts stay locked in clear weather and open automatically when a storm reaches the area. Wait for the red exterior lights and the siren, then walk in and search the containers inside.
How storm huts unlock
Under normal weather, a storm hut’s front door is completely locked. Walk up to it and you will see a lock icon with a distance prompt, but no way to open it. There is no key for this door and no button to press, so trying to force it in clear skies is wasted time.

Everything changes when a storm rolls through. The hut switches on red warning lights across its exterior and sounds an audible siren. That light-and-siren combination is the signal that the lock has released. Once it triggers, the entrance door unlocks and opens by itself, letting you step straight inside.

Escape if the storm ends while you are inside
Storms do not last forever, and if one passes while you are still looting, the entrance door locks again and shuts you in. There is a built-in way out. Look for the yellow ladder on the interior wall, which climbs up to an overhead roof hatch.

At the top of the ladder, use the manual release button to open the hatch. That pops the roof open and lets you climb out onto the top of the hut. You are not stuck even if the weather turns against you mid-loot.
Grab the highest-value items first once you are inside. If the storm is already fading, you want the best loot in your bag before the door locks and you are forced up the ladder.
Storm map conditions worth knowing
Storms do more than open huts. They change the whole map through weather conditions, each with its own effects and risk level. Planning a storm hut run around these conditions tells you what else to expect on the surface.
| Condition | Difficulty | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| 4 / 5 | Fewer active Return Points, no active Raider Hatches, increased loot value, lightning strikes | |
| 1 / 5 | Fewer Raiders, lower-threat ARC, matchmaking limited to new players | |
| 2 / 5 | Exploding caches that must be found quickly |
Electromagnetic Storms bring ground-pounding lightning that damages electronics, disrupts ARC machines, and shocks Raiders caught outside. Loot becomes more valuable, but getting out is harder: Return Points are scarce, and Raider Hatches shut. Storm Aftermath offers a lull, with the most dangerous machines pulling back and fewer Raiders staying topside. Uncovered Caches scatters old Raider caches across the map; leave them exposed too long and they detonate, so locate them quickly.
Because an Electromagnetic Storm removes active Raider Hatches and cuts down Return Points, plan your extraction before the storm peaks rather than relying on a hatch that may not be open.
Storm huts versus the Dam’s Controlled Access Zone
Storm huts are not the only bunker-style structures you can enter, and it helps to keep them separate from the Controlled Access Zone on Dam Battlegrounds. That facility sits beneath the Power Generation Complex and does not open on its own during a storm. You reach it through ground grates, a ladder access shaft, or an external zipline from the rear domes.

Inside, access is gated by systems rather than weather. Fuel cell batteries have to be carried to consoles to power doors, and one door needs the Dam Controlled Access Zone Key. Another is a puzzle door that only opens when four switches are triggered at the same time, with the switch consoles spread across multiple floors.

The difference comes down to the trigger. A storm hut opens the instant a storm lights it up, and your only job is timing. The Controlled Access Zone stays shut until you power it, key it, and solve its switch puzzle. Treat the two as separate tasks, and you will not waste a storm waiting for a door that was never going to open that way.
