Aion 2: How to Use Power Shards to Boost Damage in PvE and PvP

Stock up on the 5% shard at General Goods Merchants, then toggle it on only when the extra damage matters.

Stock up on the 5% shard at General Goods Merchants, then toggle it on only when the extra damage matters.

Power Shards are consumables you activate manually; while enabled, they add a fixed amount of damage to each attack. The standard shard grants 5% additional damage, but every hit uses one from your supply. Stock up cheaply, turn one on for important fights, and leave it off the rest of the time.

Quick answer: Buy the basic Power Shard from any General Goods Merchant for 10 Kina each (such as at Dawn Legion Base or Tolbas Village in Verteron), drop it into its HUD slot, and press B to toggle it on.

The three Power Shards and what each one adds

All three shards are Common grade and available at level 1. Their damage increase applies only when activated, while the Abyssal version has an additional effect limited to combat against other players.

ShardDamage while activeExtra effectBest in

Superior Power Shard+10%NoneHard PvE, bosses
Abyssal Power Shard+10%Ignores part of a character’s DefensePvP

Every swing uses a shard, so keeping one enabled during routine quests or against weak mobs quickly depletes your supply. Leave shards off for minor enemies and activate them for dungeon bosses, challenging field bosses, or fights with a strict damage check.

Buy basic Power Shards from a General Goods Merchant

Basic Power Shards offer the quickest, least expensive refill. Each costs 10 Kina from a General Goods Merchant. You can find these vendors in hub settlements and outlying camps across Verteron and Altgard, making it easy to restock before a dungeon run.

Travel to the nearest merchant stall and interact with the NPC using the F Talk prompt to open the General Shop.
Scroll to Power Shard (Bound) in the shop list, set the quantity you want, and confirm the purchase with Kina. Since the price is so low, buy them in bulk and keep a large reserve on hand.

General Goods Merchants also appear at camps such as Southern Sleugh Station, and the General Shop is reachable from the main menu. The same merchants stock other staples like Return Scrolls and Kisk Summoning Stones, so the Power Shard entry sits lower in the list.

Equip and toggle a Power Shard

Shards occupy a slot at the HUD’s bottom center and work like ammunition, with a toggle you can use whenever you wish. Keep in mind that each hit consumes a shard while the effect is enabled.

Open your inventory, select a Power Shard, and assign it to the HUD slot. Dragging it downward activates it, and dragging it back up deactivates it.

Use B to change the consumption setting. Enabling it displays “Activating: Power Shard (Bound)” on screen; disabling it displays “Deactivating: Power Shard (Bound)”.
Continue attacking normally. Each strike gets the shard’s listed increase until your supply is empty or you disable the effect. The number in the slot falls during combat, confirming the shard is active.

Use the damage boost in content where clear speed matters: Expeditions, Transcendence, Nightmare, Ascension Trials, and Daily Dungeons. The extra damage can improve your scores in those activities.

Get Abyssal Power Shards for PvP

For player-versus-player combat, equip the Abyssal Power Shard. It boosts damage by 10% and pierces some of an enemy character’s Defense, making it the direct-damage choice for PvP. Its bonus applies in the 1v1 Arena of Solitude and 5v5 Arena of Cooperation, as well as Battlefields and open-world Abyss fights. Against bosses, the Defense piercing has no effect, so the shard provides only its standard 10% damage bonus.

Abyss quest scrolls are a way to obtain sizable batches. Enter Abyss mode and travel to Latessan Western Root in Chaotic Lower Reshanta to find the Command Merchant. Buy a Command Quest Scroll, complete its nearby mob-hunting objective, and receive a bundle of Abyssal Power Shards.

Craft Superior and Abyssal shards in Substance Morph

Both upgraded shards are made from basic Power Shards and Enhance Stones through Substance Morph. Open the menu, go to Substance Morph, switch to the Special tab, and pick the recipe. Both have a 100% success rate and produce ten shards per craft. The Superior Power Shard is the straightforward PvE upgrade, since it matches the Abyssal shard’s 10% damage without the Defense-piercing trait that only helps in PvP.

Other ways to pick up Power Shards

Buying is the quickest route, but Power Shards also arrive passively as you progress. They come as quest rewards, from several achievements, from Hidden Cubes, and out of reward chests. The Episode quests Signs of a Crash Landing, Striving for Coexistence, Transformation Prep, Shattered Sky Island, Mercenary Pursuit, and A New Lead each hand over a batch of the bound version.

  • Quest rewards, including 1,000 Power Shards from the early Episode quests above
  • The Honed Skills achievement tiers, awarded for filling Rare nodes on Daevanion Boards
  • Daeva’s Campaign Supply Chest and Daeva Supply Chest openings
  • Hidden Cubes, attendance rewards, and Material Conversion

Raise the Power Shard Damage Bonus stat

Power Shard Damage Bonus is a separate stat that boosts the damage from your active shards. Increasing it makes each shard you use hit harder, helping a limited supply last longer. Several titles provide this stat, and it is a main stat on the Fierce Battle Amulet.

A title’s Owned Effect applies when you own it; its Equipped Effect requires you to wear it. The values below are taken directly from the items.

TitlePower Shard Damage BonusSlot

Obedient Revenge is the strongest of these at +26 on its Equipped Effect, and it also adds Critical Attack 32 alongside the bonus. The Fierce Battle Amulet carries Power Shard Damage Bonus 40 as a main stat, next to Penetration 700, Perfect Chance 5%, and PvP Damage Boost 20%. Enhancing it with Amulet Enhance Scrolls from the Abyss Shop adds more, reaching +15 at +5 and +30 at +10, each with matching Penetration.

Confirm a shard is working

The shard is active when the HUD slot marks it as on and the toggle prompt shows “Activating: Power Shard (Bound)”. Your attacks then gain the listed percentage, and the stack count decreases as combat continues. After the fight, press B again to switch it off and avoid wasting shards.
