Wizards of the Coast is bringing Star Wars to tabletop gaming. At a New York Comic Con session about Disney and Lucasfilm publishing on October 9th, the company revealed D&D | Star Wars, Tyro Squadron: Adventures, a pre-written campaign accompanied by a dedicated D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book. The releases are part of the Dungeons & Dragons Universes Beyond line and are scheduled for 2027.
Quick answer: Tyro Squadron: Adventures is a ready-to-run D&D campaign set during the Original Trilogy, shipping in 2027 with a companion D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book. A fuller preview is set for Star Wars Celebration in April 2027.

Two D&D | Star Wars books are coming
The collaboration kicks off with two separate products rather than a single release. One handles the rules; the other hands you a story to play through. Here is how they split up.
| Book | What it does |
|---|---|
| D&D | Star Wars Core Rules | Lets you build your own characters and adventures in the Star Wars universe. It fills the role the Player’s Handbook plays in standard D&D. |
| D&D | Star Wars, Tyro Squadron: Adventures | A pre-written campaign set during the Original Trilogy, built for a Dungeon Master to run for a group. |
This is a notable departure from the first Universes Beyond crossover. The World of Warcraft expansion, a 256-page book, leans on the existing D&D rules. The Star Wars line gets its own Core Rules book instead of relying on the Player’s Handbook, which gives the setting room for its own mechanics.

What you play in Tyro Squadron: Adventures
Your party fights the Empire as members of a covert Rebel crew. The campaign takes place in the Original Trilogy era, alongside the films’ events: Luke and Leia face their own battles elsewhere in the galaxy as your group takes part in the same conflict from another location.
Wizards of the Coast sums up play with three pursuits: undertake daring sorties, venture into unfamiliar parts of the galaxy, and influence the Rebellion’s story through your choices. This setup suggests a sandbox the Dungeon Master can guide, rather than a plot that follows a fixed linear path.
The “secret Rebel crew” has no confirmed connection to Star Wars Rebels or any existing crew from other media. Treat it as a new group created for this campaign.
Release window and pricing
Both books are slated to arrive in 2027. An exact release date has not been confirmed. The next scheduled reveal is at Star Wars Celebration in April 2027, where Wizards of the Coast plans a more detailed preview, including a live play session of Tyro Squadron: Adventures.
Pricing and retail details for both the campaign and the Core Rules book have not been finalized or formally announced. Formats are also unconfirmed, though a physical hardcover alongside a digital edition on D&D Beyond would match how other recent D&D books ship.

The artists working on the project
Wizards of the Coast has brought in a mix of in-house and sci-fi talent for the crossover’s look.
- Justin Gerard, a Magic: The Gathering artist.
- Kieran Yanner, also known for Magic: The Gathering work.
- Amir Zand, a science-fiction artist whose credits include the Halo Encyclopedia and Dune: Imperium box art.
Early artwork shown at the panel leaned into recognizable Original Trilogy imagery, including Stormtroopers patrolling a grimy alley, a rebel party and a droid trading blaster fire inside a space station, and a freighter hanging in orbit over a planet.
How it fits into D&D’s crossover plans
The Star Wars partnership between Wizards of the Coast and Lucasfilm was first announced in July at Gen Con 2026, as part of a wider push into licensed crossovers under the Universes Beyond banner. World of Warcraft comes first, in November, with Star Wars following in 2027.
This is not Wizards’ first time pairing tabletop rules with Star Wars. The company published a separate Star Wars roleplaying game starting in 2000, releasing updates through 2010, but that line stood apart from Dungeons & Dragons. The 2027 release marks the first time the two are fully joined, and until it lands, the fan-built Star Wars 5e project, which runs on the same D&D framework and is available for free, remains the closest alternative.
