Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen – How to Get Rift Crystals in Norgan for Jiera’s Appraisals (Spoils)

Four ways to fund appraisals: Jiera's starter gift, trading unwanted spoils, quest rewards, and Norgan Ducat Hunks at Dwayne's inn.

Every relic and spoil you drag back from the snowy north is useless until Jiera appraises it, and she charges Rift Crystals (RC) for the work, not gold. If you have been hoarding spoils but keep bouncing off the “not enough Rift Crystals” wall, the fix is knowing exactly where RC comes from in Norgan and how to top up fast.

Quick answer: Jiera hands you 300 RC on your first appraisal, then you refill RC three ways — trade unwanted spoils at her menu, collect it from Norgan quest rewards, or buy Rift Crystal Hunks with Norgan Ducats from Dwayne at the inn.

Jiera’s menu in the Norgandian Settlement reads “Appraise” / “Trade Spoils for Rift Crystals” / “Talk” / “Cancel”; completing Rumbles in the North shows “+100000 XP” and “2000 RC” at the right of the screen.

Why appraisals cost Rift Crystals, not gold

At the carved lodge in the Norgandian Settlement, Jiera sits beside a bronze bowl; the map marks her as “Jiera’s Appraisals.” Her menu offers Appraise, Trade Spoils for Rift Crystals, Talk, and Cancel. No items are available to buy. She explains that relics must be appraised before they can help you, and the service costs Rift Crystals.

Pick Appraise and the screen prints a Cost in RC for every spoil, a running Total for the batch, and a final prompt asking whether to spend that RC. You can queue up to 100 items at once, shown as “Total 0 / 100” with a “Select All (Max 100)” option. That batch size is why RC drains quickly if you are not restocking it.

Costs scale with the tier of the spoil. Here is what common items ask on the Appraisal screen.

SpoilAppraisal cost
Abandoned Supplies (Rare)10 RC
Spoils: Lv 1, Plastron10 RC
Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry15 RC
Spoils: Lv 5, Plastron50 RC
Spoils: Lv 5, Ancient Light Weaponry55 RC

Jiera’s first appraisal gives you 300 RC

When you first bring Jiera a relic, she pays for its appraisal. She says she is supplying the crystals on this occasion, but that you must get your own for later appraisals, and gives you 300 RC. This starter amount is a one-off, enough for a few low-tier spoils and little else. Think of it as a sample, not a fund to rely on.

Trade unwanted spoils for Rift Crystals

For a quick refill, trade the unappraised spoils in your inventory. Keep the talk key held on Jiera, then select Trade Spoils for Rift Crystals. The resulting Trade screen is headed “Select spoils to trade,” and displays an RC value beside each spoil you carry that has not been appraised. The spoils we tested yielded 15, 20, 25, 30, and 45 RC, letting unwanted finds fund appraisals for the ones you want to keep.

This is the lever to pull when you are short mid-session. Dump the low-tier duplicates and overflow spoils here, then switch back to Appraise and run the pieces worth keeping.

Norgan quest rewards pay the biggest RC lumps

Let the conversation run to its end. When Dorin finishes speaking, the reward banner posts the Rift Crystals straight to your balance.

Buy Rift Crystal Hunks with Norgan Ducats at the inn

Dwayne runs the inn and takes Norgan Ducats. Talk to him, open Trade Norgan Ducats, and move to the Standard Trade tab. Two items there convert directly into Rift Crystals, and each line carries a stock of 9.

The Giant Hunk confers 300 RC when obtained, and the Enormous Hunk confers 999 RC. Each weighs 0.10 kg.

How much Rift Crystal you actually need

These costs show how the amounts compare: an Enormous Hunk at 999 RC pays for around eighteen Lv 5 weapon appraisals, priced at 55 RC apiece. Village Defense’s 5,000 RC reward would cover roughly ninety. By comparison, 10 to 15 RC from low-tier spoils makes little difference to either total.

The appraisal screen lists relics to appraise, with Abandoned Supplies (Rare) selected at a cost of 10 RC.

When you are short of RC, in order

With the talk key held on Jiera, select Trade Spoils for Rift Crystals. Exchange all spoils you do not intend to appraise, then add the RC to your balance right away.
Clear the Norgan quests listed above. Village Defense alone refills 5,000 RC, and the two 2,000 RC quests are not far behind.
At Dwayne’s inn, use any extra Norgan Ducats to get Giant and Enormous Hunks.

You will know it worked when your RC balance climbs and the Appraisal screen’s Total sits inside that balance. Confirm the “Spend RC to appraise?” prompt, and your spoils turn into finished weapons, armor, and gear on the spot.
